Patapon demo includes exclusive weapon
If you're a PSP owner who wasn't planning on buying Patapon, you're out of your mind and you need to seriously evaluate your priorities. If you weren't planning on pre-ordering it though, we can't exactly say we blame you. (When was the last time you had trouble getting a PSP game you wanted?) But after some considerable pot sweetening on Sony's part, this is one pre-order we don't think you'll want to miss.
If you pre-order at your local GameStop, not only will you get a demo for the game, but you'll get also get the demo-only item the "Spear of Protection." The bad news? Demos aren't in stock yet, but are due this week or next, so you'll need to keep calling your local GameStop every 20 minutes until they arrive or your phone number is blocked, whichever comes first.

If this game is half as brilliant and endearing as it looks, I'm going to fall in love with my PSP again for the first time since Lumines.
I think it's selling at a budget ($20) price, too - or so I heard. So really, there's no reason not to give it a shot. Shane Bettenhausen has been evangelical about it on the 1up Yours podcast, so that's something.

Question: this exclusive weapon...is it only for use in the demo? Or can you also use it in the full game?
Akamaru @ Jan 28th 2008 11:58AM
The full game will read your save file from the demo and you will have access to it in the full game, so I'm told.
JonFitt @ Jan 28th 2008 11:59AM
If it's only for use in the demo then I'll pass.
It's nice of them to sweeten the pre-order, they're usually a one-way deal (and it's not your way).

Thanks Aka, I'll probably do it then. If all I have to pay is $20, there's not much of a reason not to.

I'm between Patapon and Pursuit Force right now.

Does that make you the meat in a "P" sandwich, then?

I am on the fence in whether or not I should preorder the game because I am planning to get Apollo Justice, DMC4, and maybe Advance Wars this month.
I mean, seeing how LocoRoco have like 5 demos one can download from the official Japanese site, I wouldn't be suprised if Sony releases the demo on the net. Regardless, I am sure one will being able to find this demo at a torrent site in the near future(which I would think would be legal, being a demo and all.)
With that said, I am not sure if I should preorder this just for the demo and exclusive weapon.
Grimmus @ Jan 28th 2008 1:41PM
I've heard and read only good things about the new Advance Wars title, and I've always been a fan of the series, so it's looking like a good thing got better. I won't personally know until later this afternoon when my order arrives, but I'm optimistic and a little obsessive-compulsive thanks to the order tracker on the USPS site.

So Euros are getting screwed again then with this exclusive weapon, since the demo's seemingly US only. Nice. :/
bVork @ Jan 28th 2008 1:35PM
I see nothing ethically wrong with downloading a demo from your favourite torrent site.
Grimmus @ Jan 28th 2008 1:59PM
I'm definitely keen on picking up the game, although it's a bit of a bummer to read that the special weapon is available only through GameStop; if it was another retailer with at least less obviously shiesty policies and practices, I'd be all for it.
Zorink @ Jan 28th 2008 2:34PM
You can always reserve BattleToads instead.
LaughingTarget @ Jan 28th 2008 3:20PM
Isn't the purpose of a demo to get you to consider buying the game? If so, why do we have to buy the game to get the demo?
8dot3 @ Jan 28th 2008 4:57PM
Aren't demos supposed to get you excited to buy the game? How do I know if I even want to pre-order this if I haven't played the demo...
Demaar @ Jan 28th 2008 8:12PM
Why do the demos need to be "in stock"? Couldn't they also, you know, give you the option to download it?
Bart @ Feb 15th 2008 12:02AM
Hey i only played about 2 mins of the demo witch i got for FREE from GAMESTOP cuz im always buying stuff there the guys just give me the game demos for free like god of war but anyways i played about 2-3 mins of the game demo and i dont like it all i seen was playing insterments and that bores me to no end if you want a good game try kingdom of paridice its a great game unlike this one
Joe Fox @ Mar 10th 2008 8:40AM
The demo is now free, courtesy of PlayStation Store. No need to pre-order anything.
Tejas P @ Mar 21st 2008 3:49PM
im thinking about buying it and all but there has to be a catch if the game is only $20. is it shorter than most games or does gamestop and other retailers think it is a bad game cuz i like it after bating the demo. if any1 has it and has beaten it, can u tell me if its a worthwhile game? thx
