If BC is still availible, has dual shock, and it retails for 499, then i think we finally have a winner.

What is the point of having the ability to upgrade your PS3 HDD??? They should just drop the price and they will sell more systems.

Thank the lord someone finally said it. Every time there is a thread about the PS3 or XBOX 360, there's always the same handful of console apologists and loyalists going at it.

"Nate" seems to be the prominent one in this thread. Now I just need to wait for idiots like Fernando Rocker, XanthouS, etc. to chime in.

No, I was predicting that a 120GB PS3 would be released late 07/early 08 as far back as Feb 07 and most the time I was laughed at. Granted I expected it to be $599 and have a faster BluRay, but to my defense the DS3 hadn't been announced yet.

My point is that Sony would rather up the technology than drop the price, which I think is a stupid business move. It would be much better for Sony to have the 40GB PS3 at $299 than these nice models at the launch prices ($499-$599).

Oh, yeah I see what you mean. Hard drives are cheap and it gives a sense of more value when in actuality it doesnt really cost Sony anything. Right?

You're right, mostly. It does cost them something because they have to write all the software that backs up and restores all your data to get it from one drive to another. They also have to support it, test it, take support calls about it, etc. That's non-trivial.

However, I agree it's not a high cost item. It is pretty high value, in my opinion, and the lost cost to Sony doesn't change that. Heck, the low cost to Sony just means they can include it and not need to charge extra for it.

They don't exist in stores. You might be able to get one that cheap on ebay, if you get lucky.

Holy shit, Sony really needs to stop this. Just when you think they're streamlining their focus into one single SKU, they release another to further confuse the masses.

B-B-But Sony - I thought Microsoft was confusing customers with so many skus and revisions and you were going to simplify and just stick to 2?

/sarcasm meter is off the charts

Unless they're going to overhaul the actual system - and why would you at this point - lose the SKU silliness. This goes for you too, MS.

What's the point of releasing all this confusion upon the consumer when the only thing that changes is the price of the unit and the size of the hard drive? Madness.

Oh right, teh rumble. Guess what! You want a rumble controller right now, buy a rumble controller. Sony use up your warehouse supply of Sixaxis controllers and then start including Rumble with the existing SKU's. Is that so f'ing hard? lol.

BIGGER HDD can actualy be a gd thing.

WHY have VIDS MP3 & PICS in a cramped office room where at most, an "OFFICE" PC has a monitor average of 17" wide with 2 small speakers???

Consoles could be the next best thing to harness ur digital contents to a more bigger screen, better sound system a more spacious living room ;)

Things CAN change. PCS always slow down after 2 yrs.and im very keen on upgrading my HDD and unleashing those digital contents and visualizations in my living room.....or if theres a way of formatin my external HDD to FAT32 :S

Umm obviously if Sony does this movie it is because we, the consumer seem to want it in the US. They are obviously trying to move the system in the States, the only market thus far that the PS3 is really far behind in. I know a ton of people that bought the 360 Core system and then with the release of the Elite upgraded to that one...So complain about what Sony is doing but this is a selling point to a lot of Americans out there.

yea while more SKUs can lead to confusion, at least all of Sony's SKUs are pretty much the same standard configuration - bluray and hard drive and ps3. Yea not guaranteed Wifi, BC, or rumble, but those are throw ins - can't rumble be added via firmware update anyway?

Yeah they just make a firmware update, and boom, your controller transforms into a DS3.

Considering that it was the outcry from both the gamer and dev communities that caused them to make nice with Immersion over rumble, and that the 60g version is the most saught after, I would say no, those are not throw away issues. That they belittled MS by initially saying that all PS3 SKUs could to the same things make it sting just a little more.

As some one else said, it's not a bad thing, really. It's just indicative of how madly they are scrambling to play catch up and how chaotic upper management must be right now.

I liked the old days where if you bought the console at launch you didn't have to worry about your unit being overwhelmed by 5+ skus within two years time.

Yeah and how much will it cost? $600 again? What in the world do you need 160GB for when you have a ps3? All they offer are a few demos and some dumb arcade games. This has to be a joke.

This is how Sony is going to keep the price of the PS3 at $499 for at least another year. The sad part is that I just bought a refurbished 60GB PS3 and a 160GB HDD to go with it for a total of $400.

Y are they doing this aint a 120-160Gb hdd more expensive I mean arent they like a couple hundred I mean why release anything higher its not like I care about space I save and delete thats it I dont keep Demos and Vids for longer then a couple of days I mean wow Sony cant make up there minds its been like a year and plus months And they still cant stick with it like 360 did.

I mean 360 only released like 4 different types and to me Arcade/Core are the same shit just with different shit inside.

Now what I read 80Gb been dominating I can never fill it all up even with all that stuff on releasing.

To me if they want to reduce cost than stick to what u aleready have and keep it that then make your new shit when this console gen is up.
