PS2 owners who are disappointed about their system's dwindling upcoming release list may have at least one more high profile "new" release to look forward to. We put "new" in quotes because this release would actually be a collection of some of the best old games on the system at a great price.CheapAssGamer has some evidence that Konami is planning to bring Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection to the PS2 on March 18. According to a Play-Asia info page and two purported scans of a fact sheet, the game will include all three Metal Gear Solid games, including the Substance and Subsistence directors cuts of the latter two, all for $29.99. Try beating that with a stick.
While we're sure the four gamers who haven't played these games would be happy with the opportunity to play catch up, we're a little bummed that they couldn't somehow squeeze the Gamecube-exclusive Twin Snakes version of the original Metal Gear Solid into the package. Still, even if you've only missed one or two of these releases, you might want to put this one on your early-year-purchases list.

Also, if you really don't care, then can you at least create 2 threads for each blog post? One for the gamers and another for the children?

Next series to be compiled should be Final Fantasy, far too many games to buy individually, can see having all the playstation games on one dvd and all the Snes/Nes ones on a CD, would be must buy :)

I own so hard
I almost pirated MGS2:S. Almost. Now I will be able to buy it instead. And I intended to buy MGS3:S on ebay too.
Really, all of these collections of 3 for 30 have been awesome for me. I am a cheap (aka poor) gamer and before these the best option I had was to buy used.
I am still pissed I missed okami for it, as I expected it to become a GH title. :(
Who says the PS2 is dead? I am still buying lots of (cheap) games for it.
other candidates for compilation:
A port of the psp mgs games
Silent hill
devil may cry
xenosaga?
Ace combat
Onimusha
tenchu
etc
Kinda disappointed in this packaging though...

castlevania: dawn of sorrow box art
'nuff said
But yeah, Dawn of Sorrow artwork did tend to... what's the word? Suck? I mean, I don't mind having a female artist doing the Castlevania promo stuff, at least then it was GOOD.
But no, my remarks were in response to the whole lack of awesome packaging. I mean, this is Metal Fucking Gear Goddam Solid. And what do they do? Some promo artwork for all three games AND pictures of the inner three game packages. This, to me, seems to lack pizazz. It doesn't scream "buy me, you Kojima loving sad, sad fanboy bastard!"
But, having said that, deny the awesome of this packaging...

Epic should use this as their defense...SK just sucks at making games.
Anyway, nice to see this coming out here. I already own all of them, but it's definitely quality gaming for those who haven't played them before. And shit, for 29.99, it's a steal.

And you know it.
Anyway, I would definitely pick this up. I've never played any of the Metal Gear Solid games, and I kept meaning to pick them up eventually, and if they all came in one neat (and cheap) package like this I would snap it up instantly.
True, it wasn't unplayable, but hardly any fun. They could've at least upgrade the level design to make it more playable with the updated controls and moves. What good are updated controls and next generation game play if it's still stuck in a first generation world?
"Twin Snakes has better graphics than any Metal Gear Solid title on the PS2."
Ok, maybe the filtering was a little better, but the models and art direction wasn't up to snuff when compared to Konami's & Kojima's high quality work and attention to perfection. Of course it's understandable, they're not Konami, but it's not like this game was made from scratch. And i don't recall my PS2 version of MGS2 dropping to 5FPS when there was one enemy on my First person view mode.
I'm guessing you only said that because it was on a Nintendo Console, regardless if your comment was true or not.
As for DangerMouse, lookout for Count Duckula.
Although I'll also be buying it simply for the fact that it's the last time I'll be able to buy a brand new Playstation (note the lack of a 2) game.

Even though I have all 3, I'm probably going to cave and get this.

It will bring us a bad crop for this season. Of games.
Also does this means MGS is actually on a PS2 dvd?
I wonder why they did this istead of the ps1 disc ala the JP 20th anniversary collection.

TTS wasn't crap. not in the least. it wasn't the original, true. but it updated a great many issues from MGS1 as well as introducing some adaptive elements. however it seems sophmoric to post and ponder why it wasn't included. how about a great deal of rather expensive enginnering to port and test the title. seems quite elementary watson, yet we know this story couldn't go down with at least a minor sony jab.
while Kojima has stated MGS4 is the end of Snakes story, he didn't rule out and even professed his interest in redoing MGS1 again. an ultimate version. there has also been buzz about a PSP version.
either way, to those mealy mouths sniping at PS3 40GB owners, at least they will have MGS4. something many people here can't say without pulling out their wallet.
