I'd rather they put in Well Classic. The user-made one, while faithful, isn't used since it isn't disseminated by Valve direct.

Anyway, this version of Well is so much better than the capture point version.

yeah i really dont like CP maps as much as i do CTF maps. lately i've been playing on a single server that mostly does custom maps. my favorite is a remake of the UT 2K4 Convoy map. there are a lot of great game modes that i think Valve should get behind.

like a CTF variant that only has one intel case and both teams fight over it and try to get it into the opponent's base. very fun. basketintel. look it up.

Sorry Valve, but cp_well is the second-worst map of the collection (the first being granary). If it ain't broke...

I used to think Hydro was the worst until I played the developer commentary for the map.

I now have greater respect for both Gravel Pit and Hydro.

If there was one map I'd love that they bring back or reimagine, it would be the president & bodyguards vs. assassins one, whose name escapes me.

Hunted was its name!

Makes sense, because the guy we'd all call the "president" was officially called "The Hunted."

Dickweeds could build turrets under the map. They could shoot you but you couldn't get them.

That is why you should have purchased the PC version. Custom maps outnumber the included ones 2 to 1 on my system.

The control point version of Well works out a hell of a lot better in the end; As a capture the flag map, it takes too long to get from one base to the other, and there are too many wide-open spaces and too few choke points, so defense becomes an act of futility. In the end, most of the rounds I played turned into races to and from intel rooms between opposing Scouts.

I think CTF Well works with a lot of players in the same way 2Fort doesn't when there are too many. The full 32 players on 2Fort always ends in a stalemate because all the bottlenecks get plugged.

True, with more people it wouldn't be nearly as bad. I do my best to look for servers with a 20 player max because most of the maps are easily overcrowded, especially when there are 16 players on each side.

Haha.. I like how they used a picture of cp_dustbowl instead of cp_well or ctf_well... Not that it matters, but I just find it funny that an article about Well displays my favorite map of all, Dustbowl.

I got the Orange Box for Xbox 360 the day of release, and while all the HL2 games were fine, as was Portal, TF2 just had awful lag all the time. When the Orange Box went on sale on Steam late december, I just bought it again, and have been playing it nearly every night. Up to 32 player matches, Friends & Achievements, no Lag, and constant updates make it much better on the PC.

Looking forward to Badlands!
