Turok developers remove team-kill achievement with launch-day patch
Concerns over developer-encouraged griefing can now be quelled, as Game|Life reports that a patch will be released the same day that Turok launches in the US (Feb. 5), removing the controversial team-killing achievement from the online modes of both the PS3 and Xbox 360 version.
The patch will keep the "Grab Bag" achievement (and its parallel PS3 "accomplishment") intact, but remove the requirement that players must kill a team-member to acquire it. Once patched, the achievement will only require players to kill at least one creature, one enemy, and themselves in order to unlock.
Since the achievement only affects online play, the patch will probably have to be downloaded before any players can engage in multiplayer mayhem. We're happy Propaganda Games decided to release this patch sooner rather than later, though here's hoping eager griefers who heard about the sadistic achievement will also hear about its removal. Otherwise, there or not, the achievement may turn Turok into a TK nightmare.

Who thought that was a good idea to begin with? Seriously.

I liked the idea

I thought it was a pretty funny achievement. Granted, I typically only play multiplayer matches with friends and its pretty much a given that you will be killed by a team mate at some point or another.

Hey guys? Um, thanks for trying to help my comedy act, but, Steve Martin used a FAKE arrow...

"PS3 Accomplishment" Hey look at us we are the GO BOTS of the video game industry.
The next generation of gaming doesn't start until we copie someone and until we say it does.

Grab Bag
Kill at least 1 creature, 1 enemy, 1 teammate, and yourself in the same round of a public match
It's a kill anything and your self at the same time achievement, i could see people being concerned if it was kill a teammate and your self at one time but it's not. also, who cares if some on nade kills there self and you for 10 points??? it a public match (not ranked) achievement, public meaning for fun and not stats
merf1350 @ Jan 29th 2008 10:51AM
Honestly, you'd think some nutjob would be more up in arms about it supposedly condoning suicide, than team killing. But then again, like I said...nutjob.

Well like I said, if they caved to the pressure of removing this I wouldn't buy the game. Seriously folks it wasn't that big of a deal, I thought it was a hilarious addition and it is only a one-time thing.
aristokrat @ Jan 28th 2008 7:34PM
I think the real problem arises when people start abusing the achievement as an excuse for teamkilling, claiming they only killed you because they want the achievement but then killing somebody else next round, etc.

Spam is a worse idea.

I have a feeling that this game will suck anyway. I've never liked a Turok since the N64 version and won't buy into the hype for this one.
If it's actually good, I'll eat my words.

Ops sorry,it was for the achievement lulz.
LaughingTarget @ Jan 28th 2008 7:10PM
I don't think it mattered one way or the other. One team kill and you have the achievement, it isn't like you need to keep the achievement from expiring by regularly offing your buddies.
Mr Khan @ Jan 28th 2008 7:31PM
I don't really see the problem per-se, just include a provision to stop people from booting you for that IF the achievement was unlocked

Random guy #7 to Bungie:
"What the ~blam!~ else do you want me to do? I want my damn recon armor!"
Deck @ Jan 28th 2008 7:58PM
Well it was funny... but a totally stupid achievement. Who the hell originally thought of that?
Mr.ESC @ Jan 28th 2008 8:52PM
At this point all developers should know that allowing Team kills is just a bad idea, can you imagine how painful Team Fortress 2 would be if friendly fire was allowed?
I’m not interested in Turok. It seems is more focus in the multiplayer mode than Story mode. I hate multiplayer modes in certain games, I mean is cool but it only proportionate like 2 weeks of extra gameplay before you trade it for another game or just throw it away with Crackdown.
Michael Leonardo @ Jan 28th 2008 8:18PM
That achievement was made of FAIL.
Smacksmackums @ Jan 28th 2008 8:55PM
I think joystiq is being a little hypocritical with this thing. I didn't see it as that big a deal and found it kind of funny and at least it was original. No more boring acheivements like find all the 36000 hidden orbs or some crap like that.
And the reason that it's hypocritcal is that they are all up in arms about this. They're bitching and moaning and trying to stir up the gaming community but then they go and post what they call "entertaining greifing videos" of pricks who do nothing but troll orange box servers looking for ways to piss other people off. People who do it all the time are the jackasses. People who do it once for an acheivement are just the ones having a good time.
Eat me joystiq.
Smacksmackums @ Jan 28th 2008 8:56PM

Am I the only one who finds it cute that everyone seems to think removing this achievement is going to stop team-killing in Turok?
Shockgamer @ Jan 29th 2008 6:24AM
Good.
XBLers are idiots enough without the encouragement.
Synergistic @ Jan 29th 2008 9:16AM
I don't see the big deal, everyone would get this achievement early on and occasionally someone new would try for it, but I don't think it would be a game breaker.

Glad to hear about that it is a wonderful area. It would be easier now.
I stumbled upon a good business site I want to share with you the Young Entrepreneur Society from the www.YoungEntrepreneurSociety.com. A great documentary about successful entrepreneurs.
