I'd like to see their reasoning for this. I would think a historical-esque strategy game would play well to even a casual audience.

Nintendo Wii Fanboy readers already saw their take on it. They linked to a complain thread where 2K reps spoke about the decision. If you guys are upset about it as I am, visit their forums and let them know: http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16165

They won't know if you don't tell them. They pretty clearly think we don't want these kinds of games.

Chance for me to escape from all I know.
Holding back the tears.
Theres nothing here has grown.
Ive wasted all my tears,
Wasted all those years.
Nothing had the chance to be good,

Nothing ever could, yeah.
Ill keep holding on,

Ill keep holding on,
Ill keep holding on,
Ill keep holding on
So tight.

Didn't you just make a reference, to someone making a reference?

No, I replied to someone making a reference to something in order to try to get 'blog fame'.

I like the "let's ignore the console that's been sold out for two straight Christmases" attitude.

This time next year we will be laughing looking back on how Wii wasn't the top priority of every development house in the world.

Well, snap. They probably couldn't be bothered to call it the same game when it was going to inevitabley end up different what with the wii's control implementaion. Maybe it was too awkward? Hell, who knows.

civ is, at heart, a mouse point-and-click game. this is exactly what the wii does. so the control scheme should actually be a blessing for devs.

i think graphics is a problem for the wii. Civ4 had ridiculous graphics requirements for a strat game, and this one looks even prettier and more 3d-ish. Wii would not like to play at 10 frames per second.

Say what? 2K is ignoring the top selling console with an interface that seems ideally suited to it's particular gameplay. Instead they're focusing on "next gen" consoles? Brilliant.

I'm pretty sure that "focusing efforts on next-gen" is just PR. I'm just hoping that they're actually dedicating more time for polishing the Wii version.

Because everyone loves when developers actually put effort behind Wii games, right?

Bleh.... not that surprising to me.

Whats this game about anyway? Is it just another installment of Civilization as a strategy game? Or something a little bit different for the consoles?

Maybe 2K simply realised that it's not worth it. The sales are likely to be very bad because very few third party games sell on Wii. If you look at the top selling third party games for the Wii it's not hard to realise that stuff aimed for "casual" gamers and kids sells the best.

Civilization is way too complex for the casual crowd. If it was called "Civilization: Mario and Luigi" then it would be entirely different story.

I've known so many people over the years who've gotten addicted to Civilization despite hardly ever playing any games since childhood. It's only as complex as you want it to be, and appeals greatly to "casual" (ugh, that stupid fucking word again) gamers.

Agree with Garrett. In the console world, Civ is pretty casual. Its not Zuma, but its easy to pick up and play. I would think it would actually sell well on the Wii since its so well known, casual gamers would have heard of it.

Maybe 2K is looking to integrate exergaming into Civ on Wii? "Cleopatra, I would like an alliance with you! Shall we to the bed?" *Shake wiimote vigorously*

A pity. Abandoning the console that would have felt most natural outside of PC

Strategy developers (Nintendo included, Radiant Dawn is severely lacking) need to be hit over the head, then shown how fucking good the Wii is for point-and-click gameplay...
