Crook hides cash in gutted consoles
Authorities discovered £12,000 ($23,758 USD) stuffed inside four game consoles belonging to a man suspected of running an illegal PSP memory card and chipping business. Videogamer reports that during the raid at the man's home in the Tower Hamlet section of London, authorities started taking apart consoles with the expectation of finding illegal mod chips -- instead they found bags of cash where the hard drive should have been.I case you're wondering, the cash was stored in one original Xbox holding £5,925, and three PS2s with £2,835, £2,025 and £1,425. It seems no next-gen consoles were harmed in the implementation of the illegal business.

Oh come on now - who here doesn't use their old XBox for the same thing?
Show of hands!
FidliousWong @ Jan 29th 2008 6:02PM
I don't know about money but I hid a couple bodies in that bastard. In fact, if every surface it touched didn't look like thawed chicken meat was put on there, I'd have traded it in long ago. As it stands right now, I have to look disappointed with the idea when some friends suggest we play Samurai Spirits 5 on Xbox.

Now the Wii isn't the only console that prints money.
HAR!
Burnt Meatloaf @ Jan 30th 2008 3:52AM
It would be the only console where it's difficult to hide money in the hard drive compartment.
Sam @ Jan 29th 2008 5:49PM
Well afterall the xbox IS hueg enough.
Jeff @ Jan 29th 2008 5:52PM
I stash pot in PC game boxes. =P

You'd think that if you sold illegally modded consoles, the first thing the cops would take in a raid would be... your illegally modded consoles.
I for one would probably hide my ill-gotten wealth somewhere else.
Sam406 @ Jan 29th 2008 6:00PM
Come to think of it, of all the places for hiding the cash the modded consoles was the WORST place he could have picked.
Beatz @ Jan 29th 2008 6:08PM
Yeah, if you're a gamer illegally modding consoles the best place to hide your cash is in a box of condoms. The cops will never suspect it.
Korova @ Jan 29th 2008 6:13PM
Very clever, since any gamer only beatz his meats.
Bluebrake @ Jan 29th 2008 6:36PM
Yeah. It's kind of like a drug dealer hiding his cash in a big bag labeled "drugs."
Durandel @ Jan 29th 2008 9:09PM
But who would think to search for CASH in illegally modded game systems?
I mean, cummon!
ThornedVenom @ Jan 30th 2008 12:15AM
An insider source tells me that it's safe to store money under pillows.
FidliousWong @ Jan 29th 2008 6:00PM
As a kid, I used to hide my allowance stash in the base of my lamp. You'd figure this guy could have some something like that.
JonFitt @ Jan 29th 2008 6:02PM
Fail.
As Farseer said, that's not the brightest place to hide it. The space under the bath, or inside a couch would be much better. Or the old classic: toilet cistern.
Dio @ Jan 29th 2008 9:11PM
The toilet tank is the oldest trick in the book, and everyone knows about it thanks to Hotel Dusk Room 215 XD
ray @ Jan 29th 2008 6:22PM
why not just deposit it in the bank?
gary @ Jan 29th 2008 6:49PM
anything in the bank has to be accounted for. practically everything nowadays is taxed and hence any money put into the bank is shown to come from somewhere.
He has to hide the money so that no one questions him as to why there was a vast sudden increase in cash.
Nigeria @ Jan 29th 2008 6:22PM
Ah, he's from Tower Hamlets.
My friend got a forever smile near the estates there. (A forever smile is a knife slash from cheek to cheek - like a clown).
I can relate to this story.
It's nice to see London mentioned on Joystiq.
bender @ Jan 29th 2008 9:23PM
forever smiles
Ted @ Jan 29th 2008 8:14PM
Holy crap, I'll watch out around there! wtf, why the hell would someone do that to someone??? I was just watching Pan's Labyrinth, but that fascist bastard deserved it.
Grimmus @ Jan 30th 2008 2:33AM
If anyone else is curious, "Chelsea Grin" and "Glasgow Smile" are more common terms for the same act. Actor Tommy Flanagan (Gladiator, Smokin' Aces) has such a set of scars.
Pizza Pasta @ Jan 29th 2008 7:18PM
He should have put the money inside of his own body. That's what I'd do.
Papa @ Jan 29th 2008 7:22PM
Funny how one Xbox held more money than two PS2s. =D
wickedpheonix @ Jan 29th 2008 7:47PM
"no next-gen consoles were harmed"
Excuse me? Are you actually implying that stuffing a console full of money would actually harm it?
Did you guys sell all your worldly possessions and move to Nepal?
Ted @ Jan 29th 2008 8:15PM
I don't get it... The police raid people's homes because they modded consoles???? What kind of modding are they talking about? What was he doing that was illegal? O.O
Deck @ Jan 29th 2008 8:49PM
Haha... this was smart!
SkeetSkiLee @ Jan 29th 2008 11:51PM
i think there should be a "N" after the "I" when it says... "i case you're wondering..." on the beggining of the second paragraph.
Adam @ Jan 30th 2008 4:15AM
wtf why hide the money in something a robber would take anyway when robbing you.
Whitey @ Jan 30th 2008 8:39AM
why would you need to chip a PSP? you just replace the firmware with a custom one.
