EA Marvel fighting game no longer in development, partnership dissolved

Bad news for true believers (or maybe good news): EA and Marvel have dissolved their game development partnership, discontinuing development on EA Chicago's Marvel fighting game, as well as confirming that no further Marvel titles will be developed under Electronic Arts.

The partnership was first entered back in early 2004, and resulted in 2005's critically-derided Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects. The EA Chicago-developed fighter would have been only the second title developed in the Marvel/EA partnership. GameTap speculates that the deal may have fallen through after the recent resignation of EA Chicago studio head Kudo Tsunoda.

Despite the setback, Marvel still plans on pursuing further video game projects in the future (good news for true believers? Or maybe bad news).

That is exactly what I was thinking.

Holy crap Foxhound, that's freaking brilliant.

This game was doomed from the start. We've already seen so many 3D superhero fighting games, and they all suck!
With of game of so many characters, 2D seems to work the best. Either Marvel get on the SSB Bandwagon or create another VS. Capcom game.

The world will miss The Imperfects.

What will happen to such memorable characters as "Fault Zone" now?

Maybe give the license to a non-crap company this time.

I'm with you, I thought it was Activision. Never-the-less...bring on the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 - 2D.

More Capcom is more gooder.

I saw a preview for this game a while back and it didn't look that good anyway. The surroundings where destructible but every punch or kick would send you flying 50 feet in the air or into another object. They would have been better of making a Dragon Ball Z game like that.

Don't get your hopes up too high that Capcom will make a move. I would love it but the legal crap behind it can be complicated. Not sure why Marvel dissolved the relationship in the 1st place.

We need Marvel vs. DC, but I know thats got a slim chance of happening.

Batman vs Spiderman
Wolverine vs. Lobo
Galactus vs. Darksied
Appoclypse vs. Doomsday

Don't know why it's never been considered, it would sell shitloads.

Well considering it was EA Chicago... it would have sucked anyway.

Now... just let Capcom get it!

I am so hoping that Capcom will give the world a MVC 3 in High Def. It certainly would be a treat.

Good news. Very good news.

Now my dream of the Marvel fighting license being split between Capcom (2d) and Team Ninja (3d) is one step closer to reality.

Come on Capcom, we've all been waiting for Marvel vs Capcom 3. I don't even care if the sprites are any different from 2. I just want to see a game with the same feel of MvC2 with over 100 characters.

Whew! For a moment there I misread and thought Marvel Online was canceled...

It'd be nice enough alone if they let Capcom publish some more MvC 2 so I don't get raped on eBay trying to get a copy. A Live version would rock
