Sarah Michelle Gellar really wants to make Alice movie
Not content to star in the single greatest television series ever, Sarah Michelle Gellar wants yet another nerdy project under her belt and one more way to permanently graft her image to the hearts of the world's geeks. The actress formerly known as Buffy says that her passion project is a big screen version of American McGee's Alice.
It's true that we knew that this project had previously been in the works, but we thought it had died in development, never guessing that SMG had such a passion for McGee's game. She even goes so far as saying she'd write it herself, if that's what it took. Keep on believin', Sarah. If we've said it once, we've said it a thousand times: When you're married to Freddie Prinze Jr., anything is possible.

Hopefully "Alice does Dallas".
Kendall B @ Jan 29th 2008 3:09PM
Hopefully this project doesn't allow Bad day LA: The Movie to get greenlighted.
Fernando Rocker @ Jan 29th 2008 3:14PM
Alice was the first PC game that I bought...
Very good game.
Saria the Cat @ Jan 29th 2008 6:40PM
I loved this game too! Great horror atmosphere. Too bad the movie conversion equation for books and video games produces ugly results. I'd really like to see the director of Pan's Labyrinth to get in on this, though.
chispito @ Jan 29th 2008 8:51PM
Are you that young?
Fernando Rocker @ Jan 29th 2008 10:57PM
No... I'm 23 (24 in April) is just that I am not a PC gamer...
But I have been a console gamer since the NES, since I was 6 years old.
t_m @ Jan 29th 2008 11:27PM
Wow.. now i feel old.
This one would actually be a great basis for a movie... but it would essentially be an adaption of a novel, not a video game, I guess.
American McGee has always seemed to me like he REALLY wanted to do movies (like a lot of game developers)... and a lot of his products would probably work better as movies than games.

"Sarah Michelle Gellar really wants to make Alice movie"
Now I can sleep tonight.
Martez @ Jan 29th 2008 3:21PM
Meh. I'd be all for a movie of this game (crazy-great atmosphere for a Tomb Raider clone), but not with Teh Gellar. Cast Natalie Portman. She does dark well.
StrangeBum @ Jan 29th 2008 3:56PM
Since when? What do you base that judgment on?
Closer? Or are you looking as far back as Leon: The Professional?
Lately she just seems to make the light hearted dramady type movies, ala Garden State, Hotel Chevalier (which I know was just a short film) and Paris, JeTaime'
None of which I find to be all too dark.
Martez @ Jan 29th 2008 3:59PM
I was more referring to her being able to do the dark 'look' well, which was more opinion than based on any movie. But yeah, Closer is an example I guess; V For Vendetta isn't exactly brimming with sunshine either. And sure, we can bring The Professional to the party, too! One of my favorite films.
Bucfann @ Jan 29th 2008 5:55PM
This movie could be great, but no fricking Sarah Gellar. I cant stand that broad and her having that role would ruin the movie for me. Theyd be best going to an unknown up and comer. Some hot, yet dark slightly goth type girl.

That game was awesome. Sarah is a good actress IMO so why not, better her than Uwe Boll.
Grant @ Jan 29th 2008 4:15PM
"better her than Uwe Boll."
interestingly enough, that phrase fits into pretty much nearly any context.
Ryoga Vee @ Jan 30th 2008 5:00AM
"Better Michale Jackson than Uwe Boll"
yep.. still works.
dark_inchworm @ Jan 29th 2008 3:22PM
Buffy was the greatest TV series ever? Where was I when this happened?
Phizzy @ Jan 29th 2008 3:42PM
In the womb, perhaps?
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Jan 29th 2008 3:31PM
They had a meeting about last Tuesday.
Phranctoast @ Jan 29th 2008 3:37PM
ignoring the subtlties of sarcasm?
dark_inchworm @ Jan 29th 2008 4:26PM
Haha, no, Phizzy... I am 20, for the record.
I'm not the biggest TV buff, I'll admit, but I've enjoyed other programs much more than Buffy.
That, and a friend of mine practically sucks Joss Whedon's cock, so I'll admit some bias.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Jan 29th 2008 9:34PM
Buffy is a surprisingly good show.
Also lesbians.
Jonny @ Jan 29th 2008 10:13PM
I'm gonna get flamed, but oh well.
I found Buffy bland and boring.
Whittico @ Jan 29th 2008 3:30PM
"Single greatest television series ever"? Not that I'm arguing, of course, but not a single reference to Firefly. I know it only lasted...well, part of a season, but you have to give it credit for being so gorramn great.
:P
Viridium @ Jan 29th 2008 7:14PM
Amen. I couldn't stand Buffy (or Angel). I had a friend who was obsessed all the way through university. I tried, I watched several episodes. Didn't do it for me.
Firefly? I was really skeptical, since was "from the guy who brought me that crappy show Buffy" - but it blew me away.
Grimmus @ Jan 30th 2008 2:35AM
Yea, I was gong to say, Buffy couldn't hold a candle to the ass-kicking Firefly delivers.
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Jan 29th 2008 3:31PM
As you can probably tell by name, I'm a Whedon fan.
ForcedSterilizationsForAll @ Jan 29th 2008 4:58PM
No, I just figured you were an unoriginal bastard.
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Jan 29th 2008 10:07PM
I have at least 5 other names I use more often than "Hero of Canton" I just couldn't be bitched to use something that wasn't on my clipboard at the time.
phee @ Jan 29th 2008 3:39PM

News flash: Jericho is the greatest television series ever.
LegendarySyko @ Jan 29th 2008 7:52PM
Not really. Ever heard of the following?
Lost?!
Dexter?!
Jericho is over rated. I stop watching after the first 4 episodes.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Jan 29th 2008 10:05PM
Arrested Development would like to have a word with you.

Buffy rocks. Anyone who thinks otherwise has never given it a chance. And yes, there is only one opinion about it.

BattleStar Galatica is the greatest television series ever!
Frak yeah!
Cyro @ Jan 29th 2008 4:46PM
PS: That game was awsome... I still go back and play it. Its amazing how it is not dated yet.
Brandon @ Jan 29th 2008 5:08PM
Hell, I am willing to just watch someone play if that is what it takes. Its a beautiful game, atmosphere out the ass!
squall-san @ Jan 29th 2008 5:55PM
BattleStar Galatica is indeed the greatest damn television series ever. Close second is The A-Team, because B.A. doesn't deal with suckas! On a note that's actually relevant to this post, I could only see someone like Del Toro directing this, after his stint with Hellboy and Pans Labyrinth, the guy shows he can do dark fantasy and horror amazingly well.
Shawn @ Jan 29th 2008 7:03PM
Alice was an amazing game, looking forward to a sequel, not a movie though
navstar @ Jan 29th 2008 8:09PM
SMG needs to stop thinking that she's some movie star. She plays one character over and over. Every character she plays is some form of Buffy Summers. Within that limited range, she's fantastic.
She needs to quit playing the lead all the time and be the wacky friend in a Juno-like indie comedy, or cracked out single mom on HBO. Play some quivering refugee in a WWII epic.
Whoever is giving her career advice needs to be fired.
NeverSage @ Jan 29th 2008 8:22PM
This has Tim Burton written all over it
WASD @ Jan 29th 2008 9:16PM
It should be mentioned that SMG owns the movie rights to Mcgee's Alice, so if it's happening she'll be starring in it unless it gets delayed so long that she's to old to be pretty.
t_m @ Jan 29th 2008 11:56PM
Heh... good for her.
