Maybe everyone is being facetious but I'll mention this just for fun. Mass replication of optical media is usually done through a master and stamp (pressing) rather than burning. The more you know and all that.

You know what's stupid? People talking about fake demand as if they knew shit about economics.

I'm not a Wii owner, thus I wont be buying this however... I don't see why this would happen. It is just ridiculous.

I mean for goodness sakes... its a CD that they have to copy data to, its cheap and not a long process! Ok the case too, but that doesn't matter. Its not like the actual Wii where they have to manufacture the console itself.

People ask, why would Nintendo release a game shortage like that? Well one major reason is to generate interest. I know what coming next, WHAT!!!111 THIS IS MOST HYPED GAME EVA NOOOB!!!111 Yea everyone on the internet knows the hype this game is getting. But how do you hype it to the casuals that bought the Wii but don't read video games sites. You can't throw it on the Today Show or Oprah. The game is kind of hard to really explain to a person who doesn't play game on a regular basis. "It a fighting game but it got all these kewl characters on the screen together like Super Mario and Donkey Kong and other people you never heard of unless you played Nintendo games for the last decade with powers and weapons and kewl things happen when beat on each other but its just cartoon violent and not like bloody violent and stuff" Yea that make sense to an average person... (end sarcasm)

Or you can the game on the evening news where they tell everyone it's the hottest game on the Wii and their are shortages for it. Then you suddenly have all those people were on the hype train of getting a Wii going out to try and get this game. Rinse and repeat....

But Nintendo has been known for it conservative release of games and systems, so this does not shock me at all. This was happening way before the Wii, back on old N64 days. I mean they could have easily stockpile the game for a couple of weeks until they had ten million or so copies and went with a mass release, trying to beat Halo 3 record sold in a week. But Nintendo is not like that. They have proven that they are playing by a whole different set of rules this generation, and they are not got stop now.

I am just saying...

Question: What if there simply wasn't enough time between the game going gold and the release date to produce enough discs to suit the demand? Does it really have to be more complicated than that? And, if that's the case, wouldn't you rather be sitting here reading about how JAPAN is anticipating shortages than hearing that there's another delay press more DVDs? It's just a thought.

I KNEW IT. I suspected it when I read several days/weeks ago about Super Smash 64 arriving on VC the same day Brawl comes out.

Well, bickering aside, I guess come March we'll actually SEE if this affects the North American release. I'm sure Nintendo will make a statement or something. Perhaps at the GDC.

i dont think Nintendo has really grasped just how popular they are again. they seem constantly ill prepared to meet the demands. i mean if 20 million people worldwide have bought your console already and you are still having trouble supplying demand, shouldnt you try to up production? its not like they arent making plenty of money now since Wii has been turning profit almost since it came out. im not claiming to be an economy expert or anything but they really have to fix this problem they are having with the shortages.

i also think that this right here explains the US delay, they dont have nearly enough made yet to handle 2 launches in 2weeks time. hopefully they will be up to speed by March 9th cause i dont think i can survive any longer after then without this game.

They are going to increase the Wii production in April...

http://www.gamer.tm/news.php?id=2010&filtr=wii

But, still, Nintendo is making 1.8 millions Wii's every month... and every month they sell the 1.8 millions and thats a lot of work, a lot of consoles, and they still cannot meet the demand. Thats impressive.

I just want to know 1 thing....if nintendo is swiming in a giant pool of cash why the hell they just dont put more money on producing lots of wiis and SSMB since they are going to sell everyone of them! or maybe i just dont understand :P

Yes, you don't understand. The word is that Nintendo has been operating at capacity for a while now. The only way to increase production would be to add new manufacturing facilities, which is a large expense. The extra Wiis sold from that facilities would not offset the cost, especially since Wii demand is likely to fall soon. Therefore, adding production capacity would lose Nintendo money.

I'm in Hong Kong, and this game is available everywhere. The price is above retail (but not much higher than Play-Asia's price), but it's still out there and widely available.

I think this story may be blown out of proportion.

If it is not a deliberate attempt to hold back supply then someone in corporate headquarters better be getting quite the lashing. Fourteen months into this now saying "We didn't know" is really no longer an excuse.

If Microsoft and Bungie can handle putting 8 million Halo 3 titles out in three months, I think Nintendo should be more than capable of handling the release of Smash.

At this point it is time to say enough excuses Nintendo when they have been toughting the same song and dance for nine months.

The difference being that delays for Nintendo actually payoff when the game arrives while as delays on the delaystiation 3 don't really result in much.

Anyways I think anyone who really suspects that this is ome dirty tactic by Nintendo is pretty much stupid and ignorant.

I'm gonna Pre-Order Brawl at Best Buy right now actually just to be safe.

nintendo didnt last this long for being dumb. they are intentionally holding stock of all their products to cause a hysteria. i had a wii already. went on vacation to orlando at the downtown disney virgin megastore they made an announcement "attention lucky shoppers; we have just recieved 10 wii systems" "to make a purchase you must buy two games or a extra control". Do you know that i came this ---->

Can you name the game that payed off for nintendo that was delayed? besides zelda? zelda was the only game worth the money at the time because nintendo didnt have a fantastic library at the time of launch. wii sports is a demo. the wii has a couple top selling games but what do you expect when so many people buy a wii? they want to play. so their gonna buy whatever crap nintendo puts out. ravin rabbits was a nightmare. wario ware = crap. these are games that i bought around the time i first got my wii. so please elaborate how stupid i am for thinking that nintendo is causing a hysteria making air heads run to preorder. playstation 3 is actually a solid system. if you would take time and actually play before you flame it you would see this. but w.e iam sure your a wii60 fanboy already so what should i expect?

If you are talking Wii only, how about Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3? Brawl and Mario Kart will definitely benefit from their delays. If you are talking about anything from Nintendo's history, pick a game out of at least a hundred.

Um, just to clarify, professional companies like Nintendo don't "burn" their DVD's, they "print" them. It's sort of like pressing a vinyl record (in that it does the whole disc at once), it takes an extremely expensive machine.

So if one machine has a flaw, you could produce 200,000 before you realize that you just wasted $10,000,000 of Games. Ouch.
