Super Smash SPOILERS [update 2]

We know that some of you get awfully touchy when it comes to spoilers, so we're going to warn you: If you don't want to know anything about Brawl that wasn't meant to be revealed, make sure you stop reading now. We're so nice that we're not even going to tell you what the spoilers are about. But, you should have stopped reading by now anyway if you don't want to know. We mean it!

With the game scheduled to release in Japan in two days, it's no surprise that someone would get their hands on a copy and fill the internets with Brawl goodies. Let's start by showing the game's cinematic opening.

And, if that's not enough to get you pumped, you may have noticed a few unannounced characters in there. For one, there's ....

We also saw Ness, but we already found out that he, Jigglypuff, and Lucario are playable from an earlier slip up.

Oh, but there's more to be spoiled. It has also been leaked that the following characters are playable in Brawl ....

So far, there have been gameplay pictures of all of the characters listed above, ~~with the exception of Ganondorf~~ (Ganondorf pictures have indeed shown up). Here is the latest roster menu, showing you the playable characters in the game:

Wind Waker Link! Who comes with a Wind Waker stage, too!

Master Hand

Master Hand is probably just a boss and not a playable character, though, so don't get too excited. But, are you able to rest easy now? Or, is one of your favorites still painfully missing from this roster?

I was also unnerved by the lack of Jigglypuff while digging around the spoiler pictures.

ROB? Freakin' ROB? Holy shite!

My guess is it's going to be a while before our friends in the Land of the Rising Sun find all of the unlockable characters. Probably another couple of hours.

I still think there'll be one more character, to make the roster perfectly rectangular, but i don't know who it could be. There are some grumblings about Star Wolf, but i think that Mewtwo could make a return, or a third 3rd-party character (bomberman or mega man, hopefully). Anyone have any screens?

omg I almost saw too much. I'm usually not bothered by spoilers but I didn't think the spoilers would be that good. The opening scene would be too spoiling for me to handle and all I saw was Marth and Ganondorf so I haven't been spoiled that badly. Whew...

It's 'shopped. Check out the crisper lines around Bowser's square and the Wolf's.

Ganondorf looks... different. But cool. I think he definitely needs to wield his giant purple axe thing that he swings around if you win a melee match. (pardon my fake zelda terminology)

He looked like that in Zelda: Twilight Princess.

I loved newcomers like Pit, and even Olimar. I loved new characters that represented different games. But its like ROB represents the NES. We have plenty for that, so get out, ROB.

Yeah, and Toon Link I'm gunna have to get used to as well. I have mixed feelings.

The only downside to everything is that all the characters that i'm unlocking will be old characters. I'll only be unlocking like 5 new ones. I'm sorry but I find that stupid.

I'm thrilled that Wind Waker Link is in it, but where's Paper Mario?

wait, question, does this mean these are all of the characters in brawl? tahts it? there is barely any extra characters from the ones anounced in the dojo. i thought this one was supposed to have tons of people....and no megaman....

wow, i just watched the intro at IGN. i just kept watching it over and over... actually got a bit teary eyed :).

for all you people who are complaining about the character selection, you have no idea how hard it is to get all the rights, permissions, etc to all fall through to get it accepted in a game like this. That and, you will never get pampered like this in any other game, you should be thankful for all you can get. 30 composers, multiple companies working on this, hundreds of programmers/artists/designers... seriously, take it easy. I dont know about you, but i couldnt create a move list for R.O.B. lol, id like to see you try.

These guys are talented, and truly bring something epic to the table each time. Each time i wonder if the next installment will just feel like a basic upgrade, and each time they blow me away. say what you will, but this game is not only going to be a wonderful game, but it is a estimate to gaming itself. It's over 20 years of memories for me in one little disk. im my opinion, if you dont like this game, or can't appreciate it, you shouldn't be playing games at all.

No offense, but bullshit. I have a right to be disappointed. This roster in NO way lived up to the hype.

do you even realize all the extra characters they put in this? you're like one of those people who critisize everything down the last bit even though you have no idea how hard it is to do any of this. the fact is he made an amazing game, with MANY more characters than last time... including some we have been begging for. i dont know who you want, but the only person i can assume you're ticked about is mega man. while his creator wanted mega man to be in smash, he never went to the team to ask for him to be included... so blame him, not this team.

im sorry, but it just annoys be because i know many people like you who think they are critics on everything in life. It's very easy to say you could do it better when in fact you couldn't have gotten as far as what they did in '99.

Ok first off, I know basically all I can know about Brawl so don't try to tell me what I am talking about. Second, Chris was saying that it didn't live up to the hype, because it didn't. I don't his exact words, but Iwata said that they were going to have about 40 characters, 3 third party characters included. So far only Sonic and Snake are the 3rd party characters. If you include Shiek and Zelda as two separate characters (and all the pokemon), then they did live up to about the hype. There would be 38 with them (35 counting them as a single character), so they really didn't reach the hype. I am not saying this game won't be/isn't good, I'm just supporting Chris on you criticizing him. I would personally like to see just like 2 or 3 more characters. It just seems with almost everyone returning from Melee, the secret characters seem down to a minimum. Besides, ROB just seems like a joke character. I won't judge him now, but he seems that way. Anyways, I will still love Brawl and think it is perfect, even if this is the complete roster. I am not mad at the roster, just trying to say, didn't live up to the hype.

I really hope that this is not the complete list of playable characters. im a little disappointed. i really want to see mega man and/or bomberman and a few others

When Snake was announced, they said 1-2 more 3rd party characters. Nintendo has to pay for these characters to be in the game, so I don't doubt that there is only 2.

Plus, it is a NINTENDO game!

NOBOU UEMATSU arranaged the opening song! That TAKES the cake ladies and gentlemen! Great music, great gameplay (hopefully), great characters, JUST GIMME THE GAME ALREADY!

I need to admit i seen these quite awhile ago(like 24 hours...)

All the new characters + old updates are awesome but like many others I also want more characters 40+ was what I wanted =/
But I won't complain if this it as it's a great looking game and my game of the year 2008/9/10/11 and I've not even played it yet(stinks of fanboyism I know).

I just hope Lucario makes up for the lack of Mewtwo. I almost never played as him, but I loved having him as a teammate.

My only real complaint: Where are all teh bad guyz at? Just Bowser and Ganondorf? Wario is a minor antagonist at best, and Dedede has only really had a mean streak in the Kirby cartoon as of late. The amount of heroes for dream team-ups is awesome for The Subspace Emissary, but when it come to straight brawlin' I want to pound on some good guys with more than two choices of villains.

...who exactly are you looking for. Nintendo doesn't have a great many "bad guys"...

I dunno. If they made ROB work, I think anything's possible. Ridley, K Rool, Dark Matter, a Team Rocket peon, Pokey, etc, etc.

That's 39 characters: 35 visible, Zamus, Sheik, and counting each of Pkmn Trainer's Pokemon once.

I remember reading that Sakurai wanted a roster "40 deep, with 2 to 3 more third party characters (after Snake)". Also, it seems that these characters are unlocked during SSE, and Sakurai also stated that not all of the characters would be unlocked in that manner (I think it was on the Dojo, but I'm not sure on that one). Add in the fact that you had to play pretty much all the game modes to unlock characters in Melee (and don't forget the 20-hour gameplay requirement for unlocking Mewtwo), and I think that this roster is still incomplete.

That makes every ounce of sense, not kidding.

This really can't be it. I'm too disappointed by this roster to believe that this is all there is.

35 characters, not including zero suit samus, sheik and squirtle/ivysour/charizard? That is practically 40 (I know it is 39)! That is a GREAT rlist, even if no one else was announced.
Anyone who disagree's, is crazy. This game has a full single player in it, so all of the resources were not used to make a bazillion characters. More went into the single player and music, which I think is a step foward for the series.

I love the character roster, pumped to play as Pit and Meta Knight, but 35 is not practically 40 (i refuse to count transformations. pokemon trainer as 3/4 different characters, that's ridiculous) i wanted some more 3rd party characters, but i was also aware that it was highly unlikely. Seriously, people are expecting way too many characters from this game. Even if the subspace emissary is only 1 hour long, if you were to play it through with every character up there, you would still have more playtime than you get with most other titles. Not to mention online and local multiplayer brawls, which is where the true fun is.

I still agree that the roster is incomplete. I mean maybe just maybe there's just to be more. There's time left the game comes out today Japan officially or is it unofficially? Anyways I'd say there's more since they always design the smash games like it's the last hence it's always sooo good. So let's wait see. I mean Final Smash's haven't been all confirmed either ad there's a list of other things not fully confirmed. By Feb 1st everything will be known.

Maybe I'm too cynical, but I think all the rosters are 'shopped. The ROB gameplay screens are in the same capacity as the Master Hand ones, so ROB isn't necessarily playable.

And all the "Toon Link" pics are ultra fuzzy.

Thank god for three different clones of Fox, though. I was getting worried that I wouldn't get bored of his moveset fast enough.

I hated that about Melee. I thought it was really stupid to just have a bunch of hidden "clone" characters.

But I have to hold out that they will play differently. Do you remember how Sakurai-sun said that they were not going to do the clone thing in Brawl? I'm hoping this is true and everyone will have their own flava.

R.O.B. is on the roster image, so he is playable.

People People... Pacify your fears with the thought that it is only a matter of time until we will be abandoning the message board for a full week while sinking out teeth into this awesome game. No more dreams about playing Brawl only to wake up dissapointed by the reality that the game is not out yet. No more wondering about which characters are in. Gripe Gripe Gripe, but imagine this game with fewer character than they have now. If it was the case, people would be complaining (Why not pokemon Trainer, why not Sonic, why not yada yada yada). It is impossible to fully satisfy the masses, and I believe that the SSB team did an excellent job at catering to as many people as they could. So lets just all pray that the game isn't pushed back again...Kumbyah!
