CoD4 loses Xbox Live crown back to Halo 3

And it gets better by the day!

Last week came news of Call of Duty 4 thrusting a boot into Master Chief's bum, kicking Halo 3 from the the number one most played game on Xbox Live while at the same time giving Mr. Chief two soar cheeks. Victory was claimed by the CoD4 community and even Activision mentioned CoD4's accomplishment in one of their crazy press releases. But that pissed Chief off.

According to numbers just released by Major Nelson, Halo 3 just booted CoD4 from its recently earned number one seat, again becoming the most played Xbox Live game of this past week. Confetti cannons fire! And since last week's commenting wars between the passionate Halo 3 and CoD4 communities was oh so entertaining, feel free to "discuss" Halo 3's Xbox Live victory below. Just be civil or as civil as you can.

In all honesty, the reason I don'y play Halo 3 as much anymore is because I like to play social slayer, and every social slayer match usually ends up being Team BRs and Shotty Snipers. I just want to play normal slayer

I have to agree. I love a game of Oddball, Swords, Rockets, Hammerzeit, King of the Hill, but all I ever get are BRs and Shotty. I also generally only get 3 maps. I played around 40 games on the trot and they were on 3 maps, and either BR or Shotty.

The game is great, but they need to fix the randomisation.

Who cares!! Play whatever game you are happy with. I personally HATE Halo so my stats will always be going towards COD.

I don't know about all this online multiplayer crap as I don't have time to play online, but as far as the single player games go, CoD4 kicks the crap outta Halo 3.

Man, that is one of the most untrue statements I've seen in a longgggggg time. Halo 3's campaign kicks the shit out of COD4's, I don't know about you, but I hate having to wait after every scripted battle for some AI to open a door for me, makes for an incredibly linear and overly scripted campaign.

CoD4 seems to play so much better online, if I blast somebody, they actually die. I stopped playing H3 bc I got tired of blasting somebody in the back and the face with a shotgun 3 or 4 times to only have them turn around and drop me with a punch.

Halo 3 has some terrible occurances of that. But R6Vegas has to be far worse for that, and that didn't stop it becoming a very popular MP experience.

Halo 3 ftw! I own both games, and i honestly think that many kids rave about COD owning Halo cuz they suck at halo. really, it takes two bullets to kill in COD, and actual skill in Halo. if your one of these people, then sorry. just, get better at halo :P

Funny, it's the exact opposite for me. Halo got frustrating for me for those very reasons, it seemed like there was no skill involved just whoever got to the punch button first. Whereas in COD4 I think it takes a lot more skill to play well.

We as the fans of COD4 will REGAIN THE SPOT BY NEXT WEEK! BWAHAHA!

In all seriousness... who gives? Just play the game you enjoy and hope there's enough people also playing it to find an online game :-p

It's all MY fault guys. I put in H3 last week to see if anything was new and NOW Look what happened! I hate myself.

But there is team snipers in social slayer now. w00t!

How can anyone play Halo 3 online and enjoy it, its so laggy and their is so much luck involved. Even Dustin admitted in the last podcast that some nights your good and some nights you can not do anything right.
At least in COD 4 if I play good I will do good...

there is just as much lag in cod, add to that the sniper rifles are pretty much useless and whats up with the acog scopes? since when does using a scope lower your accuracy....

both games are good multiplayer though, but i wish halo had a sprint button.

The tired and cliched "it's all luck" excuse is the mark of a player who sucks at the game he's deriding.

That said, CoD4 has been fine as well - except for the XBL problems that have been ongoing making it a pain to get online games going.

Anyway...it's not against the law to think both games are great.

Apparently you haven't been playing COD4 for very long; I've experienced some horrendous lag and there are nights where I'm lucky if a game will even end with the host quitting every time or the servers blowing up.

I'm sure it has to do with the awful lag and dropped party members that COD4 has had the last couple of weeks. Looks like Infinity Wards servers are worse than Bungies. It has made me want to go back to Halo3 just to keep a party together.

I knew Cod 4 couldn't hold on to the top spot. When I checked how many people were online for both games, I was amazed to see CoD 4 had around 88,000 people on while Halo 3 had 250,000 +. The king is back in power.

I know that everybody is on about either Halo 3 vs Call of Duty 4 or how R6V2/GoW2 will pwn them both but did anybody noticed that there's a little Multiplayer Masterpiece called UT3?

I personally hope it will dominate every other MPFS once it comes out.

Flame! Flame! Flame! Just kidding. I love them both. They both provide a very differnt feel. I will say though, I do play Halo 3 a lot more. I guess I like the jumping around.

Is this really a big deal? Honestly, I play both games and I attribute the switch to the fact I started playing Halo 3 again last week over COD4.... haha, that probably wasn't the reason but I did in fact go back to Halo 3.

Both games are great in their own right, but they are both different. I tell you what though, I'd be damn satisfied if I could call in an airstrike or a chopper in Halo 3. That would be insane!

This squabble will be over when RB6V2 hits, if not GOW2 will end it.

More 10-year-olds have H3 than CoD4.

COD4's not #1 again only because I'm out of town for work and don't have an internet connection where I'm staying at night. That's all.

halo 3 did NOT live up to the hype at all, epic fail in my opinion, only good thing was coop, multi sux and idk why u crazy ppl play it

I love the Halo franchise through all 3 releases, and I'm new to COD with the release of 4. H3 is solid, but feels clumsy next to COD4. After a month of COD4 and then stepping back to multilayer in H3, I found myself wanting to sprint, and wishing that when I shot someone, they actually would die. H3 vehicles bring an element that currently wouldn't jive with COD4 or RB6. Interesting to see how BF: Bad Company will do in Q2...

both games rock but i agree that they both have lag sometimes. it may just be my connection but ill be droped out of CoD4 matches and go play halo and it wont lag at all. still halo rocks alot because of the custom matches.

Just to clarify: She said that it reminds her of the good times during WWII, except w/ updated Weapons in the MiddleEast ;)

Believe it or not I dont own any of these games.... All I play online is Team Fortress..

But If all my time wasnt being taken with classes, I would def. be into COD4... Halo 2 had the worst community of all time. Way to many loud mouth 10 yr olds and internet suburb thugs... Not to mention the anon. racism bullshit.. No Thanks

The only thing I dont like about halo is that it takes ALOT of bullets to kill a guy, while with my beloved Call of Duty 1-2 bursts and you're dead n00b!!!!

halo is more a balance game so that things are fair. so that atleast when your being shot at, then u have time to react and kill the person unlike "cock of duty 4: modern gayfare" u just get instantly headshotted and die.
plus for CoD4 u cant play more than 1 person on the same console online, or co-op online OR have a forge option. halo 3 has way more features, way better gameplay, and a wayyy bigger community so face it...

If Halo has a bigger community, why did Halo ever lose the crown in the first place? Plus this is old news, CoD came up on top, once again.

I really haven't played Halo3 since getting COD4.... perhaps I'll go back someday, but for now I'm hooked on COD4 :D
