Kansas governor's son makes 'Don't Drop the Soap' game
Perhaps you remember in 2006, when Governor Kathleen Sebelius took a stand for gaming legislation that eventually failed to get off the ground, saying "video games and music lyrics promote violence ... Moms and dads shouldn't be alone in their fight to raise children the right way." Perhaps unwilling to learn from mom's example, her 23-year-old son John has created a board game called "Don't Drop the Soap" in which players "fight [their] way through 6 different exciting locations in hopes of being granted parole ... Escape prison riots in The Yard, slip glass into a mob boss' lasagna in the Cafeteria and steal painkillers from the nurse's desk in the Infirmary."
But mom doesn't seem to be terribly outraged, with her spokesperson saying both parents "are very proud of their son John's creativity and talent." So, we're confused. Has she softened? Or are digital games the only ones that are posing a threat to kids?

Talk about your classic case of rebellion.

I saw this woman give the response to the State of the Union. She has the charisma of a varnished table.
Saria the Cat @ Jan 30th 2008 6:10PM
It must be a sad day when your son fantasizes about a fun good time in prison in order to escape reality.
PopKornPlaya @ Jan 30th 2008 8:04PM
@Bucfann shut your ass up, the liberal and other morons wasnt neccesary. Stop following a party line and be a fucking person, THINK about the issue then make your decision dont do the liberal/conservative bullshit.
and btw liberals and conservatives are both morons
@ummm...hello???
check your facts. it costs more to put someone to death then it does putting them in prison for life.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!

I don't expect everyone on this site to care, but prison rape is a human rights issue, and no laughing matter. For a politician to be cavalier about it is disappointing, to say the least.
paragraph @ Jan 30th 2008 2:52PM
Rape is no laughing matter, unless your raping a clown.

Apparently Rape between a man and a woman = bad. Rape between a man and a man = funny. A woman raping a man = High school.
Ignatius @ Jan 30th 2008 3:29PM
That last one is actually alimony settlements.
Bucfann @ Jan 30th 2008 3:33PM
I see your point. Funny how so many people (liberals and other morons) get so pissed off about waterboarding and other so called 'torture' used on terrorists, yet it seems perfectly fine in our society that men get raped in prison. Its just a joke anymore. In all reality its sad and wrong. And even more wrong that people will bash techniques used to gain information to save lives, but wont say a word about men getting violently raped in prisons every day.
umm....hello??? @ Jan 30th 2008 4:53PM
...and the reason why MOST men are in prison isn't a laughing matter either--they're kinda getting what they deserve. in fact, they're getting less than they deserve--most criminals should be put to death which will free up tax money and cut down on repeated crimes, and crimes in general. it's only because most criminals know that they can get off easily that they commit crime in the first place. if it was a sure thing that you would die from committing a crime, it's much more unlikely you would commit it. y'know--that whole "eye for an eye" thing works.
Zachary Hinchliffe @ Jan 30th 2008 4:53PM
hey, fuck off. I'm liberal as SHIT and I agree that prison rape is disgusting and not something to joke about.
DangerMouse @ Jan 30th 2008 2:38PM
She's just being a politician, and a shitty one at that.
NATO_Duke @ Jan 30th 2008 3:12PM
Yup. I dont care for her.
Jonah Falcon @ Jan 30th 2008 2:48PM
What do you expect from her but a chuckle about something extremely homophobic? But hey, maybe she should be forced to live in Leavenworth for a few days.

This is the woman who gave the Democratic rebuttal to The State of the Union speech the other night. She is being widely rumored as possible VP choice for Obama.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Jan 30th 2008 2:52PM
What I want to know is: why the hell is there a rebuttal speech to the PRESIDENTS STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS. He's the freaking president. He's not the president of the Republicans. He's the president of the UNITED STATES.
I'm sorry, but to me it just shows a huge amount of disrespect for the highest office of the land, no matter who happens to be holding it.
I freaking hate politics.
Garrett @ Jan 30th 2008 3:02PM
Crono - they've been doing them since the sixties, regardless of party.
edgore @ Jan 30th 2008 3:05PM
Plus, he is totally President of the Republicans.
paragraph @ Jan 30th 2008 3:12PM
@Crono
Despite the President bieng the Head Honcho, he isn't infallible, and therefore open criticism is possible, and quite funny...
But really, he's the judge, not the jury, nor the executioner... so he has limited power, but more power than you...
g.Park @ Jan 30th 2008 3:36PM
@Crono-
We have a 2-party system and a three-branch government exactly for this purpose. If no one was allowed to disagree with the president it would be a dictatorship, see: China, Cuba.
The American government is built around argument and debate, not submission. A rebuttal is part of the formal debate system, and in that regard, it's not at all disrespectful.
For historical reference, Republican responses have been presented by such noted Repub's as Bob Dole, Chrstine Todd Whitman, Trent Lott, and Gerald Ford.
Hochler @ Jan 30th 2008 3:59PM
@Crono: The right to criticize and show disrespect for "the highest office in the land" is one the things that makes America so great.
LaughingTarget @ Jan 30th 2008 5:31PM
We only have a two party system because they've muscled out anyone else trying to get any power, not for any strange anti-dictator policy.
edgore @ Jan 30th 2008 2:49PM
This boardgame is nothing more than a crime simulator that encourages children to pursue a life of crime, followed by the glamourous lifestyle of a prison inmate.
It also seems a little racist. Blacks and Italians? Really?
DangerMouse @ Jan 30th 2008 2:56PM
Not to mention the black guy named Anferny. Stupid lady, there isn't an ounce of creativity or talent, just stupid garbage shit together by watching too many movies and generalizing stereotypes.

Don't you all know, only Rap or Heavy Metal music can influence you, and only digital games can make you do bad things... duh, it's science... unless it's D&D, there is an exception for D&D...
Incidently WASPs never partake in any of the above...
Incidently that is the exact reason why they are the reason they are to blame, because WASPs _never_ cause crimes, and everyone else does, and only people who arn't WASPs murder people, or steal, or rape, or speed, or j-walk...
-_-
Seriously, someone needs a reality check...
g.Park @ Jan 30th 2008 3:21PM
First of all, WASP's are not only partaking in, but producing Heavy Metal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsoLb-E7oy8 (couldn't resist). Blackie Lawless ftl.
GRANTED @ Jan 30th 2008 3:02PM
Joystiq will you please post every tiny bit news barely relevant to politicians not liking video games? Seriously preaching to the choir.
This woman is an isolated liberal in charge of a very socially conservative state. To appeal to this public (the kind of people that elect presidents based on their religious zeal rather than fiscal or foreign policy), she needed a socially-conscious aspect to her administration. Frankly, I'd rather have her badmouth video games once or twice a few years ago, than have her champion something more damaging like anti-abortion legislation.
Leave her be, unless you think a REAL social conservative would be any less outspoken regarding violent video games.
Oh, and I don't really give a shit about board games, certainly not this one, so unless the article starts with "off the grid", don't bother.
paragraph @ Jan 30th 2008 3:06PM
Mitt Rommny is against aborting videogames, unless they are violent (or from EA)

Really, he is, we should all look up to him (and his three wives...)

About soap: what I don't get is, in that sort of environment, if you lean over in a number "7" type shape there's a chance you could get raped. But who leans over in a perfect "7" to pick up something anyways.
If I drop something I crouch down.
Why stick you're arse in the air? It makes no sense.
I used to watch OZ and Adebisi was my favourite character. The tone of this post reminds me of Adebisi.
Hmmm.

People, people, why seriously give two shits about this? Politicians are human, too, with the same crappy faults as the rest of us. They just get to put them on display on a larger scale. No one's ever going to agree 100% on any politician's views, actions, or any of that, so just relax and don't drop the soap. It's all good.
