Saw game brings gornography to consoles in '09
Ever wonder if a video game based on gorno (gore-porn) film series Saw would automatically get an AO rating? Well, it's time to find out as Brash Entertainment has fleshed out its announcement from last year concerning an interactive Saw. The game will weave in and out of the Saw movie storylines and elaborately ensnare consoles in Oct. '09. If you're thinking this is going to be some cheesy mobile cash-in, it appears the developers will be using Unreal Engine 3.0 and releasing the title on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
If the Saw game ends up being of any quality it'll certainly make for interesting times in terms of controversy and Manhunt 2 comparisons. You'll remember that at the height of the latter game's lunacy, the New York Times made sure to point out the inequity between film and game ratings.

I like Saw 1... it was original.
Saw 2, 3 and 4 sucks so bad...
aaron_k7 @ Jan 30th 2008 12:14PM
I agree, Saw 1 had one of those qualities that was missing from the rest of the sequels. Oh yes, a plot.
StrangeBum @ Jan 30th 2008 12:24PM
So true Fernando. But even the second movie was alright still. It still felt pretty fresh. But the third and fourth movie just jumped the shark completely.
It was a movie meant to scare and gross out, not intrigue with it's deep plotline and character development (which there was none).
Fernando Rocker @ Jan 30th 2008 12:29PM
You guys should watch Flower of Blood and Flesh, from the Guinea Pig series.
KayRazy Ken Kutaragi @ Jan 30th 2008 12:32PM
How was Saw original? C'mon...seriously.
Fernando, I am going to ask you a question. Please understand I do not wish to start a anything about religion again. But I would really like to know the answer to this question.
Friends of mine that are Atheist like me do not care for horror movies in general, to predictable. We especially do not care for torture porn.
Conversely, friends of mine that are Christian...well most of them like this kind of stuff.
Fernando, you seem to me from our exchanges in the past that you are a pretty religious person, why is it that you like this kind of over-the-top gratuitous violence?
I would very much appreciate your thoughts on this, as I am always expanding my understanding of my fellow human-beings.
Thank you Fernando.
If someone else wants to chime in...please feel free to do so.
Praise be to ME.
NeverSage @ Jan 30th 2008 12:32PM
You're all insane. That movie was garbage. It was a crappy imitation of Se7en.
I've never seen a worse movie in theaters.
Fernando Rocker @ Jan 30th 2008 12:38PM
Because is not real... is fiction.
I hate real violence... I don't even say bad words... I don't like to fight, and trust me... I live in Mexico and in USA (double citinzenship, and I live in the border).
In Mexico, the drug cartels are very sickos, people are scared, I'm scared... thats why I try to be good with my friends, family and with all people in general.
KayRazy Ken Kutaragi @ Jan 30th 2008 12:45PM
Thank you for your reply Fernando. I hate REAL violence too. As for the Drug Cartels...I feel for you dude, it must be scary sometimes.
I have a suggestion and a simple solution that would in 1 DAY put an end to the Drug Cartels and their mountains of money that I think needs to be taken seriously:
END THE DRUG WAR!!!
Prohibition did not work. What would Al Capone be were it not for prohibition and the black market millions it created for him? Did people stop drinking? No, in fact more people drank %wise during prohibition than at any other time in this countrys history.
Ending the Drug War would instantly stop these massive profits that the Cartels make.
Why does the US and Mexico keep the Drug War going? Simple $$$$$$$$
It is always about money. The trampling of our personal freedoms is just a bonus for the powers that be.
Hyams @ Jan 30th 2008 12:53PM
Fernando: "thats why I try to be good with my friends, family and with all people in general."
Except PS3 owners, right? ;)
Ken: I'm an Atheist and like horror movies. You're going to have trouble defining Atheist attributes because the only thing linking us together is a lack of belief in any god/s. In the past you could define Atheist as tending to be intelligent, morale, rational and scientifically minded, but Atheism seems to be the 'cool' thing to do now and plenty of idiots are jumping on the bandwagon.

Yes, because you are the center of the universe. Spare us the crap man.
Leave religion, or lack thereof, to another site.
Cian @ Jan 30th 2008 1:46PM
I agree Fernando. I thought the rest were crap, although SAW IV was decent because of the whole FBI investigation and the character of Straum. But the 'games' in the films have devolved into 'torture porn'.
stu @ Jan 30th 2008 12:06PM
I thought SAW was a torture-porn movie, not gore-porn. Or is Hostel torture-porn and SAW gore-porn? What ever happened to good ole porn? Oh, that's right, Mass Effect fills that gap.
ThornedVenom @ Jan 31st 2008 3:09AM
What IS this fascination with blue digital women?
First WoW night elves, now Mass Effect... xD
stu @ Jan 31st 2008 8:11AM
I believe the trouble began with Smurfette.
NATO_Duke @ Jan 30th 2008 12:07PM
No, I was thinking this would be some cheesy console cash-in.
Rob Accomando @ Jan 30th 2008 12:11PM
yep, it's torture porn. Even though it's a term I don't agree with. It's all horror movies to me
Nigeria @ Jan 30th 2008 12:11PM
I thought the first Saw film would be gory and bloody, but me and my friend just ended up laughing.
Maybe it's because many of us are exposed to such explicit imagery - often real - that anything conjured up by these directors is usually a let down.
The highlight of Saw 1 was seeing the Takashi Miike cameo. He said something in English and he was wearing sunglasses. I said, that's Takashi Miike, and my friend said, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That was a moment.
Cyro @ Jan 30th 2008 12:21PM
I don't know why, but every time I see your avatar I see Ron Jeremy.
Its weird....
JJ @ Jan 30th 2008 1:46PM
Takashi Miike was in Saw1?
I coulda sworn you were talking about Hostel for a second.. =)
now i gotta rewatch saw... i love me some Takashi Miike.
Nigeria @ Jan 30th 2008 2:01PM
Ah, you're right, I just checked. Miike was in Hostel.
Hostel is about the American kids getting tortured in Eastern Europe.
So Saw must be the film with the ventriloquist dummy which drilled through the middle-aged ladies breasts. Or was that another film?
I don't know.
aaron_k7 @ Jan 30th 2008 12:12PM
One reviewer asked rhetorically, "What do films like Saw/Hostel movies have to show in order to warrant an NC-17 rating???" Cooper Lawrence, ATTACK!!!
Seroth @ Jan 30th 2008 12:16PM
If the game turns out to be a puzzle game, maybe point-and-click like the Crimson Room games, then I'll definitely play it.
KayRazy Ken Kutaragi @ Jan 30th 2008 12:17PM
I have never cared for torture porn. I do not get the draw of watching characters being tortured just for the fuck of it.
But unlike politicians, kid "protection" groups, and far right religious nutts...I will not demand that this filth be stricken from America's soil.
Like I said, not my cup of tea...and NOT my right to tell others what to watch.
Praise be to ME.
JerJerBinks @ Jan 30th 2008 1:46PM
I agree, praise to be Mass Effect.
umm....hello??? @ Jan 30th 2008 12:18PM
....makes MortalKombat's blood-porn seem tame in comparison, eh?
I liked the original Saw and Saw2 was ok, but I certainly wouldn't buy this game. some things were meant to remain movies and books and not become a game (and vice versa!!).
Worst Review Ever @ Jan 30th 2008 12:21PM
Thank you, Saw, for bringing down the mean average of taste and intelligence for every medium that you are featured in.
Why don't they change the name of the whole series to something more descriptive of the people that these movies apeal to. What about Seven For Dummies? Nah, that doesn't do justice to the fan base. Okay, I got it! Seven For Fucking Pieces of White Trash Shit. Yeah, that's more like it.
NeverSage @ Jan 30th 2008 6:23PM
I don't disagree. But it isn't only white trash. This whole "Saw being good" thing is like a virus that cares not for race or creed. And it must be stopped.
Mr.ESC @ Jan 30th 2008 12:26PM
The game,They just lost it.
Anyhow '09? LOL.
FOXHOUND @ Jan 30th 2008 12:26PM
The problem with seeing ultra-violent stuff like this is that it wears thin quickly. Too easy to either look away or become desensitized of its acts. Add in the fact that it's overly sadistic violence for a society that doesn't readily freak out by the mere sight of what's now deemed "classic movie monsters"(from Aliens to Zombies)... well, horror flicks have really only one other direction to go:
...gratutious mutilation & psychological trickery.
NeverSage @ Jan 30th 2008 12:35PM
I hope this game is never released. I don't want the Saw creators to have any money to make more plotless, faux horror crap.
Martez @ Jan 30th 2008 12:35PM
I saw the first movie. I liked it- it was creepy and seemed to rely much more on the threat of violence than actual violence itself (until the end). I always just assumed the sequels went downhill and never saw them.
Somebody said something about it being a puzzle game. I would totally buy into that.
Hostel sucks.
dizzy @ Jan 30th 2008 12:36PM
god, media and politicians will have a field day with this pile of crap waiting to happen. I can't wait to not buy it.
Sidepocket @ Jan 30th 2008 1:04PM
Damn, I wanted to make the SAW games on the 360.
The project pitched was going to be called Jigsaw and you played the killer and set up the traps with AI computer people, try to capture and kill as many as possible and avoid the police. Kind of like an odd combination of Pokemon, the Deception games with a dash of Splinter Cell and pile tons of gore.
Ah well...
Dio @ Jan 30th 2008 1:06PM
Huh? Where did the porn come from? Maybe I just didn't know because I saw the television version XD
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Jan 30th 2008 1:23PM
You know, there's already a term for "gore porn" and "torture porn", its called "Snuff".
That said, the term "gorno" is quite funny.
JakubK666 @ Jan 30th 2008 2:38PM
Technically not. Snuff involves a real person being murdered in the movie. And that's the main reason why Snuff is considered an urban legend too.
Cian @ Jan 30th 2008 1:42PM
As a SAW fanboy I can't get behind this. First it's from Brash and I don't have much confidence in the company who made the Alvin and the Chipmunks game and who are making what looks to be crap Jumper game. Second of all I'm not sure how this is going to work. Is it going to be like Condemned but along with fighting squatters you're going to be finding clues to capturing Jigsaw and his apprentices and stopping people from dying from his 'games' or what? I just don't see it translating well to a game setting.
Rein @ Jan 30th 2008 6:13PM
Am I the only person who hated Se7en? I usually like moves such as that, but I found it horribly boring and I could barely finish it. Oddly enough, I do enjoy SAW a lot. A lot a lot. Even though Saw IV wasn't that great (same with SAW 2), just waiting for the twist and watching the victims die is enjoyable enough. Ever since IMDB, people seemed to have become movie critics... Also, the SAW movies have the best twist theme in history. I always get chills when I hear it come on.
Anyway, I don't see how a SAW game could work. It seems as if it would end up repetitive or too much like a collection of mini-games (in which you have to survive) with a small story to tie them all together.
EMOruffino @ Jan 30th 2008 8:27PM
all i have to say is that even if its AO, i would still play it. Why make a game suck to conform with everyone elses standards? Maybe make a special way to only allow adults to see the gore through XBOX parent controls?
