According to IGN, EA CEO John Riccitiello confirmed the "coming launch" of Rock Band for Wii in a rather roundabout way. The confirmation came during a conference call to discuss EA's quarterly earnings when Riccitiello referred to the "coming launch" of the Wii version. Just in case that wasn't clear enough, IGN did get confirmation from EA that the rock star simulator would indeed be making a Wii debut. There was no release date given for the launch -- or information on instruments, price, or DLC – but hey, at least now we finally know it's coming.
[Thanks, Fernando]

This is fantastic news, at long last! Hopefully the delay of this announcement has been spent to preparing comparable online offerings on the Nintendo WFC.
Online multiplayer *should* be a given, as it was proven possible in the Wii version of GH3. Downloadable content is more ellusive, but hopefully the potential revenue stream will entice EA and harmonix to get it rolling.
We'll probably see the use of a USB dongle to get all the peripherals connected, but wii remote-powered peripherals would be pretty neat. ;D

I would seriously doubt air drums (unless that was family mode). But I would think it would have online considering EA is relatively new with Nintendo's online structure (MOH, Madden). Now DLC has yet to be seen.
Supposedly Activision is working on that too just like our replacement disks.

You know... I really wish I could care about the Wii announcement. I want them to patch the current game to allow you to move your characters across instruments and more importantly, finally open up the online shop where we can order figurines of our band!
So many promises made... I want my Chronomantic Bleeders tour T-shirt, damnit!

The only current-gen console I own at the moment is the wii but if this doesn't have dlc for the wii I'll get it when I get a 360. I got time, I still don't even know when its supposed to come out in New Zealand.

As a PC gamer, Rock Band is one of the few things I've been missing out on.
360 is the best console, but all of its titles end up on PC anyway. Wii is tempting for Smash Brothers, Mario Kart and... probably nothing else really, ever. If Rock Band for Wii ends up being good (not a gimped ps2 version) I might buy one.

That would be the loneliest take on a party social game ever. I can't help but snicker at someone who'd rather play guitar hero on their computer than out in the living room with their friends, frankly think 3 on PC is a joke anyway.

Also yeah, i'm a patient PC gamer as well, so i don't need an xbox anything. But nintendo and sony offer way more in the way of games to be without.

I'm happy to see this announcement but if Nintendo doesn't open up some way to use USB drives to allow DLC I'm not going to waste my money. I'll wait until I can afford to add a 360 to my console collection.
The sad fact is that my 512MB internal memory is nearly full as it is with just some VC games and I'm not about to start deleting or moving things to make room for more.
HEY NINTENDO! Figure this serious problem out quickly. Just let us plug in an external HD and I'll stop bitching.

So Wii owners get to play a gimped ps2 port, whoop dee doo. Do yourself a favor people and pick up a 360/ps3 if you want to play this online (which rules), download all the amazing content and have all the modes.

DLC isn't a big deal for me, but if the GH3 guitars end up being incompatible I won't waste my money.

I always suspected it would, everyone goes where the money's at.

Darn. I thought I escaped choosing between GH3 and Rock Band. I'm not concerned as much as my brother wants one.
