EA is getting all its orcs, elves and other fantasy creatures in a row over in Asia for the eventual release of EA Mythic's Warhammer Online. EA announced that it has entered into an agreement with GigaMedia to launch and operate WAR in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau.
Working with the team at EA Mythic, GigaMedia will handle marketing, community management, technical support, customer service functions and details regarding the release which "will be announced in the months ahead." With any luck, this means EA is actually putting effort and thought behind Warhammer Online instead of just throwing it to the wolves like the ill-fated Earth and Beyond. That pile-o-WoW-cash sitting at Activision-Blizzard must be acting as a positive influence.

Not to positive of an influence because they are taking their sweet time on giving any release details or dates on this game. I mean come on, this game better be everything and anything I can think of for the hype and time it is taking to come out.
I mean it is good to hear that they are doing their Marco Polo thing in China but wouldn't they actually like to start making some of that money by putting the actual game out.

They should just release this already so it can bomb just like 90% of their other games.

EA has nothing to do with this game, aside from pressing the discs, and advertising.
Mythic has 100% control, just like Vivendi basically has nothing to do with World of Warcraft.
That aside, they already have half a million people signed up for the Beta, and that's without doing any real marketing for the game.

That isn't true Jynxy. Ea bought Mythic. So they are now EA-Mythic. So I think they do have some say (maybe not). But they are more than just their publisher now. Like Battle Field's Devs, Dice.

@Sidebuster: EA has no control over WAR, the developers have stated it several times and if you can get them to respond with their busy schedule they'll tell you the exact same thing. EA supplies money and some marketing, that's it. They aren't touching the game in terms of development.

A 40kMMO is being made by THQ. http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/01/thq-announces-warhammer-40k-mmo/
However, as far as I can tell, this is their first MMO. Mythic has at least done DAOC, so they have some history.
I'd actually like to have them both.
