Eidos confirms plans for Just Cause 2 in 2008
With an investor coup and plummeting stock to worry about, investing in sequels to already average properties would seem to be one of the last things on the mind of Eidos parent SCi Entertainment. The game world, however, seldom subscribes to our own brand of logic, as Eidos has announced plans to revisit one of its non-entities in Avalanche Studios' Just Cause, a decidedly tepid – and altogether brief – stunt-focused action game that managed to parachute below most players' collective radar in 2006.
Set for release later this year for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, the game will once again cast players in the role of vigilante Rico Rodriguez, this time taking him out of the Caribbean and into the fictional island country of Panau in South East Asia. Of course, more over-the-top action and stunts are promised, though if Eidos was unable to make players care about the franchise the first time around, we doubt that "the same but more of it" is enough of a tag line to make anyone but the most ardent action fans blink in the game's general direction.

during a joined press conference, Gamespot announced that they will have to let their new Editor-in-Chief go during this game's launch time for reason they cannot disclose.

You know, if you concentrate on just the top half of the helicopter (or cut off the bottom half at the bottom of your browser), it kind of looks like he's grabbing onto the lip of a giant, cartoon bullfrog, ready to fire down its gullet.
Now that's a game I would buy.
Master Bruce @ Jan 31st 2008 1:31PM
You didn't happen to lick some sort of frog before seeing that image, did you?
Fanboy @ Jan 31st 2008 10:04AM
I didn't really dig Just Cause so I'll be avoiding this...Just another sandbox title really...
Dirt @ Jan 31st 2008 9:27AM
Man, if they can make a sequel for this game, then that means a Crackdown 2 can't be too far behind.
Give me Crackdown 2!!!!!
Fanboy @ Jan 31st 2008 10:07AM
I wish man, unfortunetly they have already annouced that there will not be a sequel to crackdown. I loved that game though, too bad the Halo 3 beta was on it kinda ruined it....
HALO 1-2-3 SUCKS
KushielsScion007 @ Jan 31st 2008 9:27AM

Manic Inc @ Jan 31st 2008 9:45AM
Only just confirmed? I've been reading previews of this game over the last 2 months.
bigsofty @ Jan 31st 2008 10:01AM
Good Island/Jungle open ended game... lets hope the sequel keeps the game gameplay.
Ally @ Jan 31st 2008 10:04AM
Im probably the only person that though so, but i liked just cause 1, it was...fun! :)
Master Bruce @ Jan 31st 2008 1:33PM
No, secretly a lot of people saying they hated the game actually liked it. Hating is the new black.
I loved the game. In fact, I think I'll play some tonight after work.
LiK @ Jan 31st 2008 10:06AM
bargain bin, confirmed!
NATO_Duke @ Jan 31st 2008 10:25AM
Amen.
This game's name is perfect. Developed just cause.
thomashenwood @ Jan 31st 2008 10:55AM
Just Cause was quite fun, but incredibly broken and often repetitive. If they do it right this time it could be good though.
robert acg @ Jan 31st 2008 12:06PM
Just Cause was brilliant.
I m really looking forward to this release.
I ll buy it across the formats.
Cool.
KrazyIan @ Jan 31st 2008 12:44PM
Since I've never heard of the first game, I can only assume this is a sequel to the Sean Connery movie.

No, its a completly differnent thing all together.
I did wonder that myself at first tho.
UNC Samurai @ Jan 31st 2008 12:57PM
When I was working at the local gaming store, I held the first Just Cause as a primary example of why people should not care just about graphics. As a retailer I came to hate the G-word, and this is proof that a good game was ruined by a complete lack of playtesting and mechanics refinement.
Tephlon @ Jan 31st 2008 2:54PM
This was actually a game I enjoyed a great deal. The combat was it's weakest aspect, IMO, but it was still an enjoyable experience for me.
I'm most certainly looking forward to another one, one that's hopefully a well polished iteration of its predecessor.
hvnlysoldr @ Feb 2nd 2008 6:50PM
They made a sequel just 'cause.
