I can't help but feel mildly gipped after just buying the 80gig PS3 at the end of November. If they bring full backwards compatibility back, yeah I'll be rather pissed. But then that's unlikely for cost reasons, I'm hoping they do keep the soft compatibility in for future consumers though.

Really though, all the SKUs running around, it's so confusing. Enough is enough Sony. Choose 1 or 2 and stick to them.

Well the only thing which is a bit confusing/irritating with it is that they focus on the least important difference when they name these SKU units. I mean what size hard drive you get is next to uninteresting considering how easy it is to replace the drive. While the adding and removing of other features are much more important when deciding which SKU to get.

For what you get right now, the price is perfect. It's the most advanced console on the market and barely more expensive than the other big "Elite" console. Particularly after you buy 5 or 6 addons to the 360 in order for it to match the PS3 feature-for-feature.

Whatever is what I think about this. I have the 60gb model which has the equivalent of a PS2 built right into it, so I'm fine in terms of BC (which was one of the main reasons I bought this model) and for less than $150 I can VERY easily install a 250gb HD. As for rumble, I like that feature, but will be willing to get a couple of those controllers at a future date. I think HD space is going to be more of an issue when the PS3 starts getting more and more synced to recording TV programs and whatnot.

That sucks man!

I always love buying the best model! Cars, Video Game Systems, etc.

Oh well, if there's no cosmetic changes, I'll just buy a DS3 controller and upgrade my HDD and call it a day

Yep, I know what you mean, I'm the same way. I'll be getting this one since I haven't got my PS3 yet. I've been waiting for MGS4 and some other games. Plus I don't have the money yet.

Im guessing this SKU will have the same features as the 80gb, and maybe, hopefully a couple new ones.

It'd be cool if it was bundled with MGS4 or something. Im sure that would push some PS3s

Well if it has extra features, I'll be buying a new PS3 grrrrr....... I hate doing that, I did that with the Xbox 360 for HDMI, I hope I don't have to do that again with the PS3

All I care about is when DS3 is coming out stateside. If it comes out(separately) the same time the new SKU does then cool. But if it doesn't come in white, then I'll buy a Nyko Zero(the new one) and ebay a white DS3 from Japan.

I'd recommend Japan Video Games (http://www.japanvideogames.com/).

They are small retail shop in southern California (Alhambra/San Gabriel). They sell through their website and ebay and if you are near their store, you can usually walk in an buy what you want at their store.

They've been around for ages (I bought a Japanese version of Batman for Sega Genesis and the Japanese version of Starfox way back in 92).

I'm not affiliated with them at all but I've been happy with their service.

GDC is the Game Developers Conference which is held early every year. The public and for the most part media isn't allowed to take photos. So most of what we hear and see is very limited.

A new SKU is definate, even if it is just adding a DS3. The fact that SCEE have said the 120gb doesn't come to Europe doesn't mean that it wont come to US, as Europe didn't get the 80Gb.

I don't know why Sony keep changing the features so much. It costs money to make so many different models, there were even 2 versions of the 60gb. The US with Full BC, and Europe with just Software partial BC. That must have made production more expensive than including full BC with Hardware in the EU model.

I'm glad I got the 60 when I did! I think this will have emulation and the graphics chip at most. I see a new Sku like this as basically just progress- they can make the cell smaller, using less power (my 60 is a power-hog) and laptop drives are getting cheaper all the time. For the consumer it is all a bit pointless looking- they seem to be juggling things around to hit the right point in the market.

If you look at their DSLRs you can see the same thing- they just released 3 very similar models, each with give and take differences (the A200, 300 and 350). Each new release is also a chance for fresh headlines too, so I expect it will continue. BC aside, though, they are all basically the same thing.
