Square Enix: Final Fantasy XIII release date rumors 'erroneous'

Boy, this is awkward ... After "certain videogame websites" reported last week that Final Fantasy XIII had been promised for 2008, Square Enix has issued this sobering statement: "Any reports of a confirmed release date are erroneous and should be disregarded. Square Enix will make an official announcement in the future concerning the release date when it has been determined."

While we had corrected and reclassified our post as a mistranslation before the release of this statement, we felt it important to highlight Square Enix's official response to the misinformation, despite again acknowledging our error. Is an "our bad" enough of an apology? If not, feel free to take a few shots at us in the comments section. (Hint: This is the one time you won't be banned for it!)

Okay, I apologize. That was extremely unnecessary.

After the show I was asked if I wanted to go meet some of the performers backstage. Man, I was thrilled. But when I got back there, they were drunk and out of control. Rumpus Cat and Macavity kept feeling up my leg. I tried to leave, but, Rumpleteazer held me down, and... I was raped by Mr. Mistoffelees.

Guh. Did anyone really expect XIII in the US in 08?

It will take a while still. I mean, they are still on their first director on this game. They have to have at least two quit the project due to nervous breakdowns before it comes out... right?

...well, it's how FFXII got good...

Well, unlike XII, hopefully XIII won't be "last-gen" by the time it releases. Then again, I haven't liked a Final Fantasy since IX on PS1, so I'm not exactly their target market anymore.

FFT was the last one I liked, IMO.
Unless FFXIII takes some kind of drastic change in gameplay & combat/spell system, I'd have to agree with the comment about getting listless with the series.

i was hoping by some sort of miracle it would release in '08 but that is super unlikely since even if it does come out in Japan this year, they are going to take forever and a day to localize it to release it in the states. i can still dream though, havent played a FF game since X and i was really excited about this one.

My non-exsisting sex life is more consistent than Joystiq's ability to report the correct release date for games...and I haven't been laid in two years. So in other words Joystiq can suck my "never been touched by anyone but myself" balls. Call me crazy, point and laugh at me, etc. I still think FFXIII will be out in 2008, at least in Japan. SE just either isn't 100% positive they can do it, or they have some anal-retentive publicity plan whereby they refuse to announce a date yet in a misguided attempt to divert gamers' attention towards their lesser projects on the horizon. They've been working on the damn thing in one form or another since 2003, it was apparently expected out in 2007 at one point, it doesn't seem to be having any serious development problems like FFXII. They just can't crank out a AAA FF quality game in 18-24 months anymore like they could 10 years ago. The techonology is way more complex and they have to provide much more detail, and those poor salarymen have to sit at their computers for a few years and sweat it out.

Man..fuck abuncha apologizing about reporting the wrong release date for a freggin final fantasy game, I can't remember them giving an accurate date for any game in the past unless it was 45 to 60 days prior to being released. Damnit James...They should give you this information and then they'd know it was correct, well until the first or second production delay, by then it'll be anybodies guess, hell they should thank you for reminding consumers that it's in production because they've been working on this project for a little piece of forever, which really puts the pressure on square-enix because their last few titles weren't their greatest, after spending all this time on the project if they don't produce a good game, well then they suck, so back to what I was saying...fuck apologizing to them non-informing bastards, I'll post a site stating that the game has been released since July of 07 but can only be purchased at local Moogle Depots for 60 gil, I can't wait to see what they say about that one. until I rant again.... you might be a frequent flier but you'll never find a HiGhEr^PiKeR

I don't really care if you Shisnos botched the date because I am not a Shisno. I usually go to gamestop or whatever on the weekends and if i see it there then I'll get it I'm not a camper gamer. But that being said if this is another !@#@#$ #$@#!%$^ chick led Final Fantasy like X2 I WILL be boycotting the franchise if i wanted to play barbie dress up i wouldn't have my testicles on the outside shame of SE for pulling that dirty shizno crap.
