Eternity's Child now bound for WiiWare
Cartoonist Luc Bernard tells WiiDS.co.uk that his platformer Eternity's Child is now a WiiWare title coming Q2 2008 for $5. The quirky (we mean that positively) title has an equally quirky history, starting out as an Xbox Live Arcade title before switching to the Wii because of the 150 MB size restriction. Curiously, an IGN podcast reportedly pinned a 40 MB size limit for the service, a figure which Nintendo has disputed
We can surmise that Eternity's Child's art assets will be significantly lower now that the Wii's output peaks at 480p resolution -- but would that account for a 73% or more decrease in file size if said limit does exist? Still, $5 is a great deal for what looks like a very stylish title. We'll keep you updated on The Mystery of the Missing Megabytes.

Whoa that actually looks really cool...but how the hell am I gonna store it on my full wii?
WII need more storage!
Shadow El ( NDF - Zola Ring ) @ Feb 1st 2008 8:09PM
Or maybe "Wii" should consider buying ourselves an SD card, hmm?
Obie @ Feb 1st 2008 8:20PM
I hope so, I really do.
Obie @ Feb 1st 2008 8:11PM
Oh yeah Einstein? No games can be played from the SD card...so it's worthless in that regard.
Fernando Rocker @ Feb 1st 2008 8:17PM
That is going to change... I'm sure that Nintendo will do something near the launch of WiiWare...
Noshino @ Feb 2nd 2008 12:45PM
sorry Fernando, but didn't Nintendo already shut down the idea of a HDD for the Wii?
but then again, they are the same people (I was going to say asses, but Fernando will be pissed) that said that there wouldn't be a redesign for the DS, and then the next day they announced the DS Lite...so with Nintendo, you never know....
Superstar90 @ Feb 1st 2008 8:16PM
It should just come to PSP and DS.
Fernando Rocker @ Feb 1st 2008 8:16PM
WiiWare is looking fucking good!
Indie developers are very creatives... this and World of Goo are day 1 purchase to me... same with Final Fantasy.
And at only $5 dlls!
sheppy2.0 @ Feb 2nd 2008 2:26PM
You know, I hate to shatter this illussion but Indie developers CAN be very creative, they aren't always. In fact, it's rare that they are. Indie Developers are just as prone to following a herd as other developers. After all, one of the first indie developer trends were cloning arcade games (tetris, pacman). Nowadays the current trend is all the new damn match 3 titles.
Fernando Rocker @ Feb 1st 2008 8:20PM
By the way... there is no size limit... I read on a WiiWare game developer interview that Nintendo has not put restrictions regarding size, or even prices. The developers can put the price that they want. Look at the Final Fantasy game... it cant be a 40MB game.
And the policy of just one game per month is good too. Less shovelware.
Mr Khan @ Feb 2nd 2008 12:09PM
I've heard that 40MB is merely "recommended" and not at all required (FFCC: The Little King, as you said, comes to mind), but devs who make a bigger game will obviously have a smaller audience of people with the right amount of space
However, I doubt this game is over 150 MB anymore, reducing everything down to 640x480 will really cut it back, which is probably why they made the transition
Fernando Rocker @ Feb 2nd 2008 12:20PM
Mr Khan
Tehy only need to allow play directly from a SD card... a 2 GB or a 4GB card is more than enough... you just leave the card inside the Wii and done.
Its very convenient even for games like Rock Band... the DLC songs stored o the SD card and done...
We just have to wait to the GDC to see what will Nintendo do. There still a lot of things that Nintendo needs to do, like release the DS Download Station channel.
Besides, people keep saying: "But Nintendo only has SSBB and Mario Kart and thats it... Sony haz teh gamez this year" But you have to understand something: the PS3 games are game that have been announced since last years, even since 2006!
So, do you think Nintendo will keep without doing anything? Of course not... There are still a lot of games and Nintendo franchises that still need to be relased.
Noshino @ Feb 2nd 2008 1:56PM
"Tehy only need to allow play directly from a SD card... a 2 GB or a 4GB card is more than enough... you just leave the card inside the Wii and done."
You are talking about the same people who can't get MP3 playback and the Photo channel to both work...so I wouldn't bet on that one...
"Its very convenient even for games like Rock Band... the DLC songs stored o the SD card and done..."
mmm...well, I don't think companies, especially EA, will allow DLC to be stored on a "oh so easy to swap" SD card... I ll wait and see in that regards.
"We just have to wait to the GDC to see what will Nintendo do. There still a lot of things that Nintendo needs to do, like release the DS Download Station channel."
Well Fernando, with that last annoouncement of Strikers and it being supposed to be Nintendo's great entrance into the Online Community...well...you saw how that went, so really, lately I just try not to care/excite much about Nintendo's announcements until I see them in action.
"Besides, people keep saying: "But Nintendo only has SSBB and Mario Kart and thats it... Sony haz teh gamez this year" But you have to understand something: the PS3 games are game that have been announced since last years, even since 2006!"
Yes, their titles have been announced since 2006, but the difference is that Sony KEEPS announcing more titles, I know that Nintendo has never been that open about their projects, but hey, it wouldn't hurt to at least hint to what they are doing...
"So, do you think Nintendo will keep without doing anything? Of course not... There are still a lot of games and Nintendo franchises that still need to be relased."
DK
Mario Kart
Mario Tennis
Mario Baseball
Mario Golf
SSBB
Animal Crossing
Kirby
Star Fox
Those are the franchises yet to be released on the Wii, I don't think that's a lot Fernando, more so when Nintendo's games are the ones that shine the most on their console....
Mr Khan @ Feb 2nd 2008 2:24PM
You forgot F-Zero and Pikmin, not that it really makes a difference
Superstar90 @ Feb 2nd 2008 5:59PM
Noshino, you forgot about the new ip's they are working on (hopefully not a lie), some new casual stuff like wiifit (coming to the states), Custom Robo, Pikmin, F-Zero, the new Factor-5 game, (maybe) a Kid Icarus game.
And I think the newer 3rd party stuff has been improving and stuff like Okami (yes I know it's a port), No More Heroes and Square will definitely get something on it as well.
mr mobius @ Feb 1st 2008 8:20PM
Forget about VC, I've enough to tide me over now with uni, I'm saving my points for WiiWare. This is probably a first week purchase (ie whenever I get home).
Bgrngod @ Feb 1st 2008 8:25PM
Such a shame. This game belongs in HD. Seeing this kind of handcrafted artwork at the highest resolution possible really is enjoyable.
Thierry @ Feb 1st 2008 8:35PM
This game looks charming.
StarFoxA @ Feb 1st 2008 8:36PM
Interesting art style.
KushielsScion007 @ Feb 1st 2008 9:00PM
The Wii could have been so much MORE if they had simply added a hard drive to the system.
50G...hell even 20G would have been decent. Just enough to open a whole new world of possibilities when it comes to game size, online, DLC, etc...
I mean the Wii is selling pretty hot right now and shows no sign of slowing down so I'm guessing lots of people are happy with their purchase. But I can't help but wonder just how much better the Wii could have been.
As for this game it looks very creative and original so I'm glad its coming to WiiWare.
Fernando Rocker @ Feb 1st 2008 9:07PM
Sorry dude... I overreacted... It's just that I can't stand OTAM, and the reply was to him.. sorry to offend you, honestly.
psyborg @ Feb 1st 2008 9:03PM
Atleast now we won't have to decipher some archaic point system to figure out how much the game actually costs.
Looks really cool btw.
KeenCommander @ Feb 1st 2008 10:17PM
If this goes for $5, I think they'll wind up making VC games seem like a bad value (which in many cases they are, but...). Who wants to pay $5 for Double Dribble when you can get this for the same?
Oreo @ Feb 1st 2008 10:55PM
Nintendo really needs to fix the pricing. This is $5 (Great price) and yet Pinball and Baseball NES are $5?
Mike @ Feb 1st 2008 11:48PM
So he canceled it on XBLA because of the 150MB limit, and is now bringing it to WiiWare (despite a rumored 40MB limit).
Why not bring it to PSN where there is no size limit?
Fernando Rocker @ Feb 1st 2008 11:55PM
The 40MB is not true... let me find the interview (I don't remember very well to wich developer they interviewed), and they said that Nintendo doesn't have a size limit.
In fact, Nintendo is not putting prices either. Is all about the developer.
Just watch the WiiWare Final Fantasy title... there is no way that that title is only 40MB.
Fernando Rocker @ Feb 2nd 2008 12:07AM
Ah, and they will not put this game on the PSN, simple because it will be not as profitable as the WiiWare version.
Noshino @ Feb 2nd 2008 12:42PM
"Ah, and they will not put this game on the PSN, simple because it will be not as profitable as the WiiWare version."
Tell that to StarDust HD and Everyday Shooter...nice try Fernando
Fernando Rocker @ Feb 2nd 2008 12:44PM
Thanks Noshino... Im doing my best =)
sheppy2.0 @ Feb 2nd 2008 2:20PM
Ummm, PSN has a 500MB limit on PSN titles aside from occassional breakaways.

Do you have MSN or Live?

Wrong. Warhawk is 900 megs. PSN has no limit.
samfish @ Feb 2nd 2008 12:21AM
This news makes me quite happy. I was rather jealous of 360 owners when I first saw this previewed.
Fernando Rocker @ Feb 2nd 2008 12:40AM
I haven't see you on my MSN... I added your Yahoo ID... what's your Wii Friend Code?
Shockgamer @ Feb 2nd 2008 1:54AM
How could you let this one go Microsoft?
Whatever, $5 sounds good for a game like this. It'll give me something to do after beating Super C for the 1,000,000th time.
Burnt Meatloaf @ Feb 2nd 2008 5:36AM
If the gameplay footage posted a few months ago is still relevant, then this game is the exact opposite of what Nintendo has been trying to achieve. All graphics, no gameplay.
Seriously... watch the footage, then tell me the game is a must-have.
Zsavior @ Feb 2nd 2008 5:43AM
When the game is a a mixture of good graphics and fun game play people say it is crap look at NMH and reviews. When the games graphics looks great and the game play is ok it is still crap, me thinks that people will just complain about the Wii because it is popular to do.
Shockgamer @ Feb 2nd 2008 6:01AM

Notice how they won't let it pass the realm of 7. It is fun for these review sites to say one thing about nintendo then when it produces cry another. I am not saying NMH isn't doing well but people will continue to complain about the WII and graphics and game play till the system's sequel.
SoxFan13 @ Feb 2nd 2008 9:30AM
$5 is a great value, I just don't see it actually happening. The VC is cash cow for Nintendo, and if cool-looking games like this start popping up for the same price as NES games, Nintendo stands to lose some major money while people are "comparison shopping" on the VC.
BPM 6th Mix MAX @ Feb 2nd 2008 1:17PM
Looks pretty cool. Can't wait.
Marc @ Feb 2nd 2008 3:01PM
Going from 720p to 480p reduces your texture size by 62% - not far off what Joystiq speculated was required but still not enough to squeeze it in to 40MB.
