PSP firmware 3.90 cracked (yes, already)
Well that was fast. Here we are, not more than two days after the Skype-granting PSP 3.90 firmware was released, and a new custom firmware comes along to let PSP owners run homebrew and/or pirated programs yet again. While there aren't many exciting new features for this quick and dirty custom firmware upgrade, we should note that the M33 line of hacks now has the ability to download updates directly from the internet via Wi-Fi using the PSP's built-in Network Update tool. When PSP users don't even have to be tethered to a computer to break Sony's copy-protection, what chance does Sony really have of stopping them?

1st post ftw.

Shimrra @ Feb 1st 2008 3:12PM
Shouldnt be hard to do at all best thing to do is google the firmware and you should find a large number of sites guiding you to properly hack your psp.
Curtis @ Feb 1st 2008 3:32PM
Actually your 3rd post FTL...learn how to count next time.
Floyd @ Feb 1st 2008 3:39PM
actually i posted the comment when this article was originally posted. i stepped away and activated it. when i came back it posted under 3
Fernando Rocker @ Feb 1st 2008 3:47PM
Why don't you use a password? Its easier and quicker... you don't need to activate every comment.
Shimrra @ Feb 1st 2008 3:06PM
Come on these people working on these hacks are experts at this so how is this surprising at all.
Fernando Rocker @ Feb 1st 2008 3:09PM
Your avatar looks like a real Mr. Satan.
C4PTAIN AWE5OME @ Feb 1st 2008 3:14PM
No Kidding, Sony should hire some of these guys to crack the PS3 and create a patch that would allow developers to actually program games for it.
Mr Khan @ Feb 1st 2008 3:51PM
Hell, Sony should just find these guys and hire 'em, then make them stop their own creations
You would need haxzors to stop haxzors
FidliousWong @ Feb 1st 2008 4:00PM
Fernando, you should really update your idea of Old Scratch. You forget, he was the most beautiful and smartest of the Seraphs. Do you really think he would suddenly lose all that as he fell? Do you really think he would be able to tempt and twist the hearts and souls of men if he showed up with huge black wings, devilish goatee, and eyeballs running up his cock?
The Morningstar, if the whole deal was real, would likely be a very attractive man with an almost regal appearance. After all, isn't his son, the antichrist, supposed to somehow fool the entire of mankind of being the second coming of christ? Can't do that if you look like the lead singer from Pantera...
StrangeBum @ Feb 1st 2008 4:09PM
@Fidlious
Not sure if that was sarcasm or not, but I believe our good friend Fernando was referring to Mr. Satan, from Dragonball Z fame.
Or I could be totally wrong.
Fernando Rocker @ Feb 1st 2008 4:14PM
Mr. Satan is a Dragon Ball Z character =(
I'm not talking about Satan... I'm talking about Mr. Satan. Does it have a different name in English?
http://www.emulationgalaxy.co.yu/images/manga/DBZ/Mr.%20Satan.jpg
Shimrra @ Feb 1st 2008 4:14PM
In the US DBZ universe he reffered as Hercule.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Feb 1st 2008 4:20PM
Only in the cut version. Uncut english calls him Satan. Hercule Satan, but they still say "Mr Satan"
FidliousWong @ Feb 1st 2008 4:46PM
Wow, umm... a DBZ reference... no wonder I missed it. I tried to get into it (I liked the original Dragonball) but could never quite gel with Z.
Now if we were talking Universal Century, then I'd likely get every reference. SIEG ZEON!
Trickob @ Feb 1st 2008 5:32PM
i have to say that i agree with fernando except that i think shimrra's avatar looks like a cross between mr. satan/hercule and david hasselhoff (sp?)
guess we know who should play who in the upcoming live-action db film.
Trickob @ Feb 1st 2008 3:06PM
i was momentarily upset when i first saw the picture of the broken psp screen. very traumatic...
anywho, kudos to the homebrewers!
Drunkard @ Feb 1st 2008 3:08PM
...not so firm is it?
Undead Priest @ Feb 1st 2008 3:13PM
Yeah, it's called Flaccidware.

i gave the network update a shot last night and it worked like a dream
deaftly @ Feb 1st 2008 3:19PM
I LOVE the new auto update feature, dark alex is the man
StrangeBum @ Feb 1st 2008 4:10PM
I thougth Dark Alex dropped out of the PSP hacking scene due to legal threats from Sony. He was always the best before, but is it still him doing this?
StrangeBum @ Feb 1st 2008 4:12PM
After clicking the read link, I take back my previous comment.
Ignore that, vote it down, invisibilify it or whatever. My bad.
Noshino @ Feb 1st 2008 4:20PM
invisibilify
wow...I swear I didn't look it up...
Trev @ Feb 1st 2008 4:25PM
He fixed it by not redistributing Sony code. You now download the official firmware from Sony as normal and a separate update from DA that just overwrites the parts necessary. No one can go after him for distributing code he wrote.
BPM @ Feb 1st 2008 3:30PM
Way to go, Dark Alex. That was much quicker than I expected!
Boostjunkie @ Feb 1st 2008 3:42PM
Joystiq makes it sound like putting this hacked firmware is an easy matter. It's not at all, it requires someone with a old hacked PSP, a hacked battery, and a lot of work. This is not something that the majority of people would ever be able to use.
nerrrrrrd @ Feb 1st 2008 3:56PM
it's easy for a nerrrrrrd!
catfish24 @ Feb 1st 2008 4:01PM
Wow, if you think that's hard work you have problems lol. No offense or anything, but it's so easy to hack the psp.
deaftly @ Feb 1st 2008 4:29PM
I bought a old copy of gta with the exploit off ebay for 30 bucks and hacked the psp, i wouldnt really call that rocket science. Hell, the offical ps forums had a great guide to do it of all places.
LesbianHam @ Feb 2nd 2008 10:56AM
You dont need an already hacked psp, just a pre-made pandora battery, an MS-PRO DUO and a pc with a card reader.
Hell you don't even need a pre-made pandora battery, do what I did just a coupla weeks ago and get a tool to convert your battery into a pandora battery and the press of a button, then back with the same - it's an unbelievably cool tool, powered by the battery you put in! The name escapes me, but it's something along the lines of "battery service tool" and IMO is greatly under appreciated.
Geist @ Feb 1st 2008 3:45PM
Why does Sony even try anymore? They could make a firmware that could shoot lasers whenever you tried to touch the files, and a hacker would be all "Zip bang, cracked."
upz @ Feb 1st 2008 4:33PM
Would he dodge the lasers like Leon Kennedy in Resident Evil 4 or more like Catherine Zeta Jones in Entrapment?
Trev @ Feb 1st 2008 3:48PM
Downloaded and installed well before this story came up. Skype is ok, but I wish it stayed signed in while it wasn't selected on the XMB.
I wasn't much for hacked firmware until I could rip and play my old PS1 games instead of waiting for them to show up on PSN. That's really the only benefit I'm getting from it.
Noshino @ Feb 1st 2008 3:57PM
hey Trev, do you know if you can use Skype on the Phat model?
Since Sony and Skype claimed that it couldn't be achieved, I'm wondering if this dudes did accomplish it...
Trev @ Feb 1st 2008 4:07PM
No. I know someone with a psp phat and they installed 3.90 m33. Like the official 3.90, the skype icon just doesn't show up.
There are other messengers that DO work though. Check out AFKIM and FURIKUP.
KayRazyKen Kutaragi @ Feb 1st 2008 3:56PM
SONY PSP FTL, Im waiting on the best handheld which will be from MS for sure!!!
Praise be to MS and Xbox360!!
FidliousWong @ Feb 1st 2008 4:01PM
password....
PASSWORD?!?!
We don't need no stinking passwords!
Carmine @ Feb 1st 2008 4:19PM
Custom firmware is about lots more than breaking copy protection. There are added features, homebrew, and playing any of your PS1 games (not just the paltry few on PSN), for starters.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Feb 1st 2008 4:25PM
I can't wait for someone to make a custom firmware for the Wii, enabling all the shit that Nintendo is too stubborn and/or stupid to implement.
Its only a matter of time.
spoilt @ Feb 3rd 2008 11:52PM
does this firmware works for the slim version?
Quietstorm @ Feb 4th 2008 3:08AM
Ok I'm new to this psp homebrew stuff as you probably can tell, anyway the downgrade isn't working for me it says "game could not be started" i believe i did everything correct stated in the read me can any one help?
pikaboe @ Feb 8th 2008 4:02PM
can some please tell how to crack my psp pls
lunxz @ Mar 1st 2008 10:14AM
Just run an update from the umd and then eject the umd while installing, a report might occur, then eject the battery, simple.
gizzard @ Apr 7th 2008 8:46AM
If PSP already has 3.93 legit installed, how does one go about loading 3.90-M33 version so as to allow ISO files to be loaded and played. Have a heap that are not recognized by PSP.Help PLEEEES????????
overflow @ Apr 24th 2008 2:38PM
i have no psp but im pretty sure you have to find(make) a pandora battery and pandora memory stick. Google for it there are a zillion of psp hack sites..
