GameTrailers Super Bowl simulation also picks Patriots
You might have watched EA Sports' Madden '08 simulation for Super Bowl XLII when it surfaced a few days ago, where it was predicted that the Patriots would take home the Lombardi trophy by a narrow margin -- then again, you might have fallen asleep in the middle of that video, which was more or less a glorified gameplay montage, completely devoid of commentary and music.
Taking a cue from classic NFL films, GameTrailers recently performed their own Madden simulation of the Super Bowl, yielding similar, and much more watchable results. Our knowledge of the mechanics of football is limited, but basically, GameTrailers predicts that the Patriots will run the brown ball into the score zone more times than the Giants, winning with a score of 20 touchdowns to 10 touchdowns. They also predicted the entirety of Tom Petty's halftime show set list -- strangely enough, it is sans "Free Fallin'".

20 points to 10 points, a touchdown is worth 6 points.
Neebs @ Feb 3rd 2008 3:19PM
2 touchdowns with scoring extra point = 14 points
2 field goals = 6
=20
1 touchdown extra point = 7 points
1 field goal = 3
Of course, I could be wrong, I have no clue about football.
Neebs @ Feb 3rd 2008 3:20PM
Oh never, I see it was Griffin who wrote the insanity.
rodents @ Feb 3rd 2008 3:23PM
Well, yes you are right.
I should have said a touchdown is worth 6 points, and it is possible to get an extra point for kicking a mini field goal, or two extra points for running in a conversion?
But the number of touchdowns he claimed made me actually click the video for once =P
Griffin McElroy @ Feb 3rd 2008 3:45PM
Gee, Cosell, thanks for the lesson in football scorekeeping! How many touchdowns is it when the kickbringer gets the ball through the endfork?
deaftly @ Feb 3rd 2008 4:03PM
You're the man Griffin
Neebs @ Feb 3rd 2008 4:09PM
Believe me Griffin, you and me may be on the same level here and not even know it.
vidGuy @ Feb 3rd 2008 8:07PM
Keep playing them all for fools, Griff.
Chris Lawton @ Feb 3rd 2008 3:14PM
Well, "Free Fallin'" was a Tom Petty song. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are playing the Super Bowl. I suppose it might be splitting hairs, but most Tom Petty fans like to make that distinction. :D
Truth be told, there's only one song that I'd like to see them play and that's "American Girl."
Fernando Rocker @ Feb 3rd 2008 3:16PM
Go Patriots! =)
itouchmyself @ Feb 3rd 2008 4:37PM
bandwagoner
Grant @ Feb 3rd 2008 3:17PM
lol@ 20 touchdowns to 10 touchdowns.
120-60!?! thats one hell of a fast paced game. and to think no one got any extra points or field goals... probably not enough time with the 30 touchdowns being scored.
OhJustSomeRandomGuy @ Feb 3rd 2008 3:19PM
They kept going for 2 and missing each time.
Let's go Non-Patriots!
Mr Khan @ Feb 3rd 2008 3:41PM
Sigh... A perfect season to make an arrogant dynasty even more so
:(
tmacairjordan87 @ Feb 3rd 2008 7:26PM
i'll acknowledge what you said if you can give me one instance where they've been arrogant. They may be lots of things, but show me one time where they said something like "we're the best ever"
Oh that's right i forgot it's popular to hate on the patriots
Donald @ Feb 3rd 2008 4:02PM
This is what the halftime show needs:
"Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Grammy-award winners, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers!"
*applause*
"Thank you, and now, here's a song by a gay guy. We're no strangers to love... you know the rules, and so do I..."
deaftly @ Feb 3rd 2008 4:02PM
as much as i would like the giants to win, they dont have a chance in hell
deaftly @ Feb 3rd 2008 10:57PM
HAHAHHA I ate my own words , GREAT JOB TO THE GIANTS! FUCK THE PATS
Arno @ Feb 3rd 2008 4:10PM
Wow everyone is writing the Giants off on this.
The world will be upset tomorrow once the "impossible" has happened.
Go Giants!
Arno @ Feb 3rd 2008 4:14PM
Oh and screw you Bostoners, you can't have them all! You people with your weird accents... Be happy with your Redsox this season because that's all you'll get. Oh, it'll be sweet. Sweet, sweet revenge.
Go New York!
why not the LS2/LS7? @ Feb 3rd 2008 6:40PM
You're gonna be whiked sad in a couple hours.
Korova @ Feb 4th 2008 7:21AM
ha-ha, look who got a set of crystal balls. It was a nice game - G.I. Ants pulled off a statistical cataclysm. Hey, meybe there are white crows after all.
Arno @ Feb 4th 2008 9:21AM
Hmmm what happened there?? Giants ripped the Pats a new one, that's what!
Mez Jr @ Feb 3rd 2008 5:13PM
Why not use a next-gen system for this sim.
Fernando Rocker @ Feb 3rd 2008 5:16PM
Because nex gen systems are not ready yet...
Sora267 @ Feb 3rd 2008 5:45PM
At this point "next-gen" means the Xbox whatever, PS4, and Nintendo Mangina (Or whatever name that can be misread as sexual innuendo that they want). Which, probably aren't even finished in design, let alone available to developers...
Korova @ Feb 4th 2008 7:22AM
Nintendo Mangina FTW lolz
A-Troll-Named-Slickback (Yes the A Troll Named part, and yes every time!) @ Feb 3rd 2008 5:13PM
To be honest, that team is like a video game... when I play 08 online everyone plays with the Pats...Ugggh
gunna @ Feb 3rd 2008 5:20PM
Did anybody else notice that Shockey was playing and Randy Moss was number 11?
A-Troll-Named-Slickback (Yes the A Troll Named part, and yes every time!) @ Feb 3rd 2008 6:00PM
Fake Video games were not invented yet
why not the LS2/LS7? @ Feb 3rd 2008 6:41PM
I prefer the Tecmo Super Bowl simulation.
SpekOpz @ Feb 3rd 2008 7:50PM
No offense to any American but what you call "football" is pretty boring. Real football, now there's a sport.
Mike918 @ Feb 3rd 2008 8:10PM
Well that is in your opinion but i do think that football is more interesting than soccer, it requires more strategie and more thinking that just kicking a ball around the field like in soccer but then again that is my opinion :P
Penguin Warlord @ Feb 4th 2008 4:50PM
American football isn't that great of a sport when you think about it. Sure it's fun to play with friends but theres only like 6 miniutes of playing per game. Personally I watched the superbowl and it does require strategy but so does chess and yet strangely that is not a huge sport in the states. Stop trying to trick your self. You like it because you like watching people hit each other and concuss themselves game after game after game.
Grant @ Feb 3rd 2008 11:41PM
Hockey and Lacrosse are more like "footie" than our football is.
Except that Hockey and Lacrosse players will kick the shit out of each other and keep playing, while soccer players will go down at the first kick to the shins.
Korova @ Feb 4th 2008 7:25AM
Yeah, American girls think that soccer players milking every on-field contact for a car or a penalty is woos-like. They are so obviously acting and badly so - its very un-macho.
rockintom @ Feb 4th 2008 10:17AM
Bah, whatever. All those sports are for wusses. Curling is the sport of *real* men.
vidGuy @ Feb 3rd 2008 8:04PM
Yeah, a sport where nobody does anything news worthy or interesting. "Did you see it last night? Can you believe he got the yellow card?! OMG!"
Coincidentally, this Super Bowl is actually shaping up to be the most boring yet. Gotta hand it to the Giants D though, hope they can keep it up.
why not the LS2/LS7? @ Feb 3rd 2008 8:58PM
Is D always boring?
I'd call a game that was 28-0 at halftime more boring than one which is 3-7. There are some good stops and there is some tension here.
vidGuy @ Feb 3rd 2008 10:44PM
I completely agree with that sentiment and as a former middle linebacker I love a good defensive game, but that first half was pretty yawn except for maybe five plays. Course I was glad to see Brady spend most of it on his back.
Play of the game is Manning scrambling out of that mash up and getting off a drive-sustaining 39yd throw with a helmet-aided catch by the new Ocho-Cinco.
I thought I saw some tears in Belichick's eyes. What a sore-ass loser walking off the field before the clock hit 0.
Grant @ Feb 3rd 2008 11:43PM
that last quarter was possibly the most exciting quarter of football i've ever seen.
So much for the first half though.
vidGuy @ Feb 4th 2008 12:53AM
Agreed. When the Pats made it 14-10 I was about ready to give up. Didn't think Manning had it in him to sustain such a drive, especially with that stingy Pats D. Great suspense.
Korova @ Feb 4th 2008 7:29AM
Yeah, I have never seen a QB escape a sack and do a longish pass like that. That was just fantastic.
What weirded me out a little was how calm and almost unexcited both brady and manning looked on the field. It looked like they were not agitated at all - almost bored to be there. Brady did begin to look more and more scared as the game advanced.
sonofnone @ Feb 3rd 2008 9:28PM
I can't think which headline would be better if the Patiots end up loosing: "Pats Freefalling" ala Mr. Petty and co. or "No Country For Old Men" - ya know, seeing as how the Pats D is almost eligible for social security.
DBuck_Eye @ Feb 3rd 2008 10:07PM
Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants! Giants!

vidGuy @ Feb 3rd 2008 10:40PM
Oh man, I'm so wicked sad about this one! Haha, screw those "perfect Pats" they deserve this loss. Eli out-Bradyed Brady.
I wonder how many pre-orders they had to cancel of this:
