Devil May Cry, a retrospective and review

This week marks the North American release of Devil May Cry 4 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. To celebrate, the crew at PS3 Fanboy have written a retrospective on the series as a whole. It's a good refresher for those who haven't touched the series in a long time (or ever). It also makes for a great read while PS3 owners wade through the required installation. (About 30 minutes in length, according to PS Fanboy editor Andrew Yoon.)

I don't know why PS Fanboy is covering this game. All the Playstation owners have decided to boycott it.

Because at the end of the day, who really cares if a game is multi-plat. Competition is bad for business, but great for the consumer.

You don't get it, plyx. Read the petition. PS3 owners "feel very left out" because they decided to make the game for both the PS3 and the 360.

The real heroes get it.

It's like gay marriage. If they legalize marriage for gays, then suddenly I won't be able to enjoy my marriage to my own wife anymore. Now do you understand?

LOL wut copa? I mean seriously WHAT! If you are being sarcastic and joking that thing was hilarious if you are the least bit serious I am disturbed.

I understand boycotting a company if they screw you over trust me I was with dreamcast and a loyal fanboy to it. But man this boycott only hurts sony, because that means it will sell more on xbox showing that future games should go to xbox360 and not PS3. If fans are now turning their back on the game companies that won't support PS3 with exclusives even if going multi-plat means being able to afford producing for the PS3, it will set a bad precedent.

But in the end go with your conviction that is all you really have in your life, even if it does hurt your system of choice in the end.

Most of the names on that list aren't real. I doubt very many of them were serious when they signed it. Heck, only one or two rogue fanboys were seriously considering boycotting the game. Everyone else just ignored the rally and looked forward to playing it.

I've played the games in the past. Although admittedly never felt compelled to own one. But now I seem to be. Part of it, I think is that, the 360 needs to see more games like it. I'm a fan of slash 'em ups and action platformers, if done correctly.

DMC was one of them, that felt right since the first game. And I hope to see it become a little bit more of a trend, but not as bad as FPSs

Im a PS3 owner and Im boycotting it.

Im also a 360 owner and I will most likely rent it at least since I do not want to sit through a 30 minute installation for a stupid game.

Honestly after getting a PS3 for Christmas whats with every fricking game taking like forever to install or launch? Is the BlooRay that frickin slow or is the PS3 that ass backwards that it needs to install and be as slow as snot on everything???!!!

Why do other PS3 people put up with this? Stupid. Why do reviewers put up with this? All games should get slammed for this stupidity. I bought Uncharted, Heavenly sword, Ratchet &Clank and many others and they all this issue. The 360 doesnt act like this so why does the PS3??!!

Oh bother. This is not a fanboy screech as I say I own both consoles. So I can vent on stupid design choices of any console. Deal with it.

The PS3 is painfully slow. Ugh...

eh not Uncharted nor Ratchet require install afaik it is not even an option. Not sure about HS.

Nice fanboy rant green grunt asshat. Eat a sandwich and your damn install will be done and then your game will have 3x less load times than the 360 version. IGN thinks the PS3 version is best because of the install. I'll take less load screens, taking me out of game play anytime for a one time install.

I played this on my lonely ps3 yesterday and my jaw dropped. The graphics are stunning and the gameplay is amazing. It literally took me away from my pvp grind on WoW for about an hour. I'm definitely picking this game up on the ps3. My 360 already gets too much attention, time to show my ps3 some love.

Honor grinding AV for epics??? That was fun before that stupid patch now takes to much energy to do. Yea I know this is totally off topic just wanted to share the pain of a fellow Honor grinder.
