King of Kong underdog to cameo in upcoming film

The role is uncredited by IMDB, but a representative from Newline reports that Wiebe will have a cameo appearance as Jim, Reese Witherspoon's character's brother, and brother-in-law to Vince Vaughn's character. No word yet if Wiebe's character will allude to Donkey Kong, record-breaking, or his unexplainable disdain for hot sauce.

Oh joy, another Christmas movie with Vince Vaughn in it! That's like finding underwear under the tree for the fifth season in a row.
But uh, congratulations anyway, Donkey Kong playing guy. Seriously, I'm not totally being sarcastic... that game is hella tough.

I loved the movie but checking Twin Galaxies breaks your hear. Billy Mitchell took back first place...

That was the first thing I did after watching the movie. And here's me thinking Billy gave up Kong many years ago.
I want to know why Twin Galaxies doesn't list the previous high scores though. It should read something like Billy, Steve, Billy, Steve, Billy!

A Vince Vaughn comedy? Cue lots of people seeing it and going "Who is that guy with Steve Wiebe?".

This movie was fantastic. As the previous poster stated,it really does break your heart to see Billy take the top spot back after what a douche the guy made himself out to be. He should have been happy that competition was flourishing in such a niche, but instead was a selfish dick about it.

I just watched this movie over the weekend.
TWO SORE THUMBS UP!!!
Great documentary flick. Billy Mitchell comes off as such a dick in that movie.
Great flick. Go Steve!!!

For some reason I really love that picture. It's really representative of a repressed, married gamer-dad like me.
why not the LS2/LS7? @ Feb 4th 2008 11:59AM
Hey, I liked the movie, and I liked Steve Wiebe.
And the comments about "it breaks your heart" above really point to a question...
Am I the only one who thinks the movie isn't real? I mean a setup?
The situation is so perfect, it's basically a wrestling script. Billy Mitchell is a perfect heel, and Steve Wiebe is a babyface extraordinaire.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heel_%28professional_wrestling%29
Mitchell shows off his ego, how he's untouchable, the true successor to the line of video game champions, his mullet shows how he's still trapped in the past. He even wears that USA tie. He talks a mean streak, but he can't even bring himself to talk directly to Wiebe, which is a great way to solve the problem of avoiding the cardboard-cutout heel having to come up with what to say when the babyface (great guy) asks the kind of warm, forgiving, loving question he inevitably would ask.
Wiebe is the great guy, being held down by life (loses his job), he is a family man. And when Wiebe succeeds we have not only Mitchell trying to hold him down, but there's even a ref there (in ref clothes!) who is trying to hold him back too by denying his legitimate efforts!
In short, it just happens to have all the same elements as wrestling match uses to make a simple thing (a single pin bout or a video game) into a battle of good versus evil.
And that's before you get to the scenes. How Mitchell shows up in his car while they are filming outside. He pulls up close enough to be seen, but doesn't get out.
Oh, and who fed that great "don't get chumpatized" line to Wiebe's brother?
It's a great movie, but either the directors/producers got VERY VERY lucky or else it was a setup.
Where's Billy Mitchell outside the movie? I see he still plays games, but where are interviews with him outside the movie? Doesn't he want to sell more hot sauce?
Rammstein @ Feb 4th 2008 12:33PM
I'm in Los Angeles and the morning radio show "Kevin and Bean" had interviewed Billy Mitchell about King of Kong a few months ago and he was asked if he was as douchebaggy as he was portrayed in the documentary and he replied that he and Steve were actually on friendly terms and got together for a few drinks but that the editing was to blame for making him seem like a villain. I have yet to see the documentary but I did see Billy Mitchell in MTV's "True Life: I am a gamer" documentary/special and he was an all around nice guy who was just trying to set a record and make hot sauce. Seeing as how heavy editing is rampant in most 'reality' TV programming, I don't doubt that is the case with King of Kong as well.
It is said that there can be no Good without Evil.

Probably my favorite part in the movie! :)

This can only come as good news, as I love Steve Wiebe and everything he stands for (being a nice guy). Even if the new movie is terrible, I'll watch it to see Wiebe again!
