No More High-Definition Heroes was almost a reality, had Grasshopper Manufacture's Goichi Suda not been privy to some Wii whisperings during his project's planning stages. "Originally, I'd wanted to make this game for Xbox 360, actually," he told MCV. The No More Heroes designer, also known as "Suda51," explained that he was swayed by Marvelous Interactive president Yashiro Wada, who shared "information about the new Wii and how the new controller would work before it came out."
Suda51 admitted to being pleased with his choice, feeling that the distinctive wack 'n slash worked well with the Wii's control system. We're inclined to agree ... but then we wonder if anybody's ever expressed concern over the Xbox 360's "hardcore" audience.

I would love to play this on my 360 would of been great. If I would get a wii this would be one of the only games I would get , well that was my reason for wanting one.

Some of the comedic value may have been lost on the 360... like the message from the video store telling you to return German Jugs Vol 23. Maybe it's the Boob/Wii reference
(psst vote me down for bad Wii joke and give No More Heros a shot)

One thing that would've been harder would be that one assassination mission where they flip the screen upside down and totally invert the controls. To solve that, i flipped the nunchuk upside down and it controlled perfectly
With a 360 controller, it would've been hard to play at all with an upside-down controller

Let me translate;
Yashiro Wada - "Your shallow, ugly game needs gimmick and no competition to (kinda) sell.
Hmmmmm......
The Wii !!"
Wii owners - "Hey were having friends over, lets pull out the Wii and play Wii-sports!"
Suda 51 - "Do we have un-employment offices in japan?"

I am going to take a few words directly from your post.
"lets pull out the Wii"
That is all that needs to be said, haha

Except No More Heroes is neither ugly nor "shallow", so your point is completely invalid and moot.

I'm still wondering how no one noticed in the Gamespot (yes, lol Gamespot) interview about two weeks before MCV's interview was posted.

Since when did "MULTIPLAYER AND GUNS ME LIKEY LIKEY LOT TIMEZ" = "hardcore"?
Or rather "Not on the Wii" seems to mean hardcore.
Last gen, niche games and whacky peripherals are what seemed to define "hardcore" games.
This gen, apparently, casual titles like Mario Galaxy, Gears of War, Halo 3, and such apparently, mean "Hardcore".
Now, No More Heroes is an actual "hardcore" game.. and it'd probably sell badly no matter where it went.

I wonder how the Xbox fanboys will respond to this? I mean, they seem to dance for joy whenever a once exclusive game for another system goes to the Xbox360....
Anyways, I wonder how this would play if it was made for the 360.

Glad he didn't, I would've missed it all, and then i probably would've bought Advance Wars: Days of Ruin back in January
Actually, doesn't sound like that bad of an alternative future...
But seriously, as it ended up, the way they incorporated waggle controls, those finishing blows and wrestling moves wouldn't have felt 1/2 as satisfying. Pointless waggle it may be, but it really accentuates the feel of splitting a guy with a lunch sack over his head clean in half
It would've probably sold better on 360, but it wouldn't have gone to a double platinum or anything like that. Plus if you think it tanked bad in Japan on Wii...

Only 600+ copies sold in Japan = ouch. Is Suda otaku or something?

Seriously I believe Matt B hit it on the head, the Hero is a huge Otaku, I am pretty sure that killed it for this game in Japan. I also don't think it would have done well on xbox360, Psychonauts, Okami, Killer 7 these games didn't do great in the past on the popular systems, I don't see people suddenly changing over night and liking this type of niche games now.
I think many of the gamers on Joystiq might have liked it, but mass market no I don't think so.

Naa, it would have sold worse on the 360. If only 10% of the Japanese gaming public wanted to play this game (for example), there's a better chance of reaching them with the Wii, due to it's larger install base. With the 360, you have a small segment of a small segment to work from.

i just got his game and i have to say it is one of the most bizzare games i have ever played. i just throws you right in. your character's first words are "Fuck Heads!!" and then you decapitate 60 people in 3 minutes, with bloody explosions more rediculous than in 300.
i love the shameless sex jokes and Japanese-ines of this game. i just wish the city was more interactive and had slightly better textures but its fun all the same!!

Well, I can't say about the 360, but I definitely think the Wii needed this game. Even if it doesn't do that great (though it appears it did pretty well for being out only a week so far), it mostly shows that a more mature game does have a place on the Wii.
Now, if only they got that frame rate problem hammered out, it'd be authoritative.

At least in Japan it would have.
