Representing a massive 100% increase over the number of Virtual Console games released last week, Operation Wolf and Columns III arrive on the Wii's retro download service today to give you your block-dropping, terrorist-killing fix.
Operation Wolf (NES, 1 player, 500 Wii Points): Operation initiated! Rescue the prisoners! Mercilessly mow down terrorists as they run back and forth, stricken with panic! Marvel as the primitive sound effects form a hypnotic, pre-REZ beat!
Columns III: Revenge of Columns (Genesis, 1-5 players, 800 Wii Points): We're not sure what you could have done to evoke the wrath of the columns, but the mean-spirited jewels are apparently out for revenge. Thankfully, years of Tetris exposure have refined you into a quick-thinking block murderer.
If I had some people over and we suddenly got the urge for some five-player Columns action, I would totally download Columns III. I already own it, but it's stored back at my parents' house, and it is a very solid multiplayer game.
Oh yeah, before I get trashed for writing Friday The 13th, it's an awesome game when you understand how to play it and what needs to be done to get through the various areas. I can understand how people think this games is terrible if they haven't put the time into it.
And I'd l;ike to add Final Fantasy 1 to my Nes list too :)
Now if we could only get Ikaruga and Radient Silver gun as Wii Ware games....

Meh...
I want Super Nintendo RPG games: Super Mario RPG, Illusion of Gaia, Secret of Mana...
Anyone remember two NES games, Ducktales and Chip n' Dale... very good games by Capcom, considering that the games are from comics and cartoons.

Good morning Ludwig!
=)
Gerwurztraminer @ Feb 4th 2008 11:10AM
I agree (with all of the above)
Ducktales and Rescue Rangers were great NES games. Espescially RR for the co-op play. 15 years later I'd still play them.

OMFG, Duck Tales! I'd pick that one up in a second.
DCBlack @ Feb 4th 2008 12:34PM
Yes, those were some great games. I believe there was a 2nd Chip n Dale game as well, but I never played it.

Super Mario Kart ( SNES)
Probably will come out on VC the same week Mario Kart Wii comes out.
But where the heck is, StarFox, Pilotwings and Super Punch Out?

I loved Operation Wolf... It's one of the only tough (at least I remember it being hard, maybe it wasn't) NES games I've beaten.
baby sea tuna @ Feb 4th 2008 11:14AM
Boo. If Operation Wolf was Wiimote enabled, I'd at least consider it.
Obie @ Feb 4th 2008 2:19PM
Good point, the game was fun, but with Wiimote support it would have been even better.
Poisoned Al @ Feb 4th 2008 11:21AM
The NES version of Operation Wolf? Eeeeeewwwww!
Jerk Face @ Feb 4th 2008 11:25AM
Nintendo has really been serving up shit sandwiches these last few weeks with the VC. I couldn't be more 'Meh' about my Wii right now even if I tried.
Now, come SSBB release time that could change of course.
And by could, I mean will.
monkeymonkeymonkey @ Feb 4th 2008 11:35AM
Do people actually buy these old games? Operation Wolf, what a joke... 500 points is $5. These games should be a maximum of $1.

Anyone else's comment buttons and read link disappear, or is it just me?
ON topic, isn't Operation Wolf a light gun game?

Yuck. Hopefully these crappy releases are leading up to something big, like Super Mario RPG!
Gaddes @ Feb 4th 2008 6:20PM
Why couldn't they have released the arcade version of Operation Wolf?
