Sony cuts PSP dev tools cost in half
Sony subsidiary SN Systems has cut the cost of the PlayStation Portable dev tools in half, effective today. The announced price reduction, in conjunction with a new Tuner performance optimizer, is hoped to increase the appeal of developing for the PSP. Support fees for current licensees will also enjoy a 50% reduction.
Sony made a similar move last November when they halved the price of its PS3 dev kit to a reported $10,250. Sales of the PSP, while still trailing the DS, have received a sales boost in recent months thanks to the handheld's redesign.

Yeah, from PSP to PS2, its being done less and less the other way round, Ps2 to PSP.
Hopefully this is an excuse for every dev to jump in, considering DS dev prices are pretty cheap in comparison.

Coming Soon...
Ninjabread Man Portable: I got some gummi bears. They've been in my pocket so they're kinda warm but they should be okay.

@maverick Well it is rather hard to port from PS2 to PSP without horribly maiming the controls. The whole lack of a second analog, 2 analog buttons and 2 shoulder buttons thing.

And half of ? is ? ....site says email them for a quote. Anyone have a clue how much that stuff costs? They posted the PS3 dev kit was 10k... I would assume the PSP kit is cheaper?

Well according to qj.net (http://pspupdates.qj.net/Sony-Development-Kit-A-drop-in-the-bucket/pg/49/aid/11111)
It's down to somewhere around $4,200

THAT'S how you stimulate game development on your console.
Should we expect one for the PS3 anytime soon?
chispito @ Feb 5th 2008 12:51AM
You'd think there would be a better way to get people to make games for your console than to charge them money for dev kits. I know that's how the business is done... but it just doesn't make sense to me.

Over the last year, I've seen the number of North American releases shrink significantly for the PSP, especially compared to the DS. When I last saw Gamestop's Pre-Release chart, I honestly thought Sony was going to can the PSP in the near future.
