Our BFFs over at PS3 Fanboy have noticed something interesting about the "Accomplishments" received while playing the PS3 version of Devil May Cry 4. Though it's not the first game to copy and paste the in-game achievements from the 360 version, DMC4 is the first title to recognize the accomplishments with a PS3 system screen, rather than an in-game notice.
This could possibly mean nothing, but it's equally possible that Devil May Cry 4 may be one of the first games to send accomplishment information to the PS3 system, for integration with services like the upcoming Playstation Home. We've already seen that Home will feature trophies collected from various accomplishments in games. Perhaps this could be the key to that feature.
As drab as the accomplishments notice is, it'll be interesting to see what it portends, if anything.

Wiggum: Example.
Lou: Well, at McDonald's you can buy a Krusty Burger with cheese, right? But they don't call it a Krusty Burger with cheese.
Wiggum: Get out! Well, what do they call it?
Lou: A Quarter Pounder with cheese.
Wiggum: Quarter Pounder with cheese? Well, I can picture the cheese, but, uh, do they have Krusty partially gelatinated non-dairy gum-based beverages?
Lou: Mm-hm. They call 'em, "shakes."
Eddie: Huh, "shakes". You don't know what you're gettin'.

Lol "achievements" =)
+1 for sure.
And also, if these types of things are integrated into the Home "game" then that is actually pretty cool. Home itself may seem gimicky, and rather uninspired. But it's definitely something different. I wouldn't mind seeing something like it on the 360. But similar to DOA4 (I believe) where you can be a crab running around on a beach in the lobby.
I don't know. Just some sort of visual interaction with the XBL community. Would be pretty spot-on IMO.
What do unlockables have to do with achievements? Unlockables have been around since the beginning of videogame time as well and achievements are rarely used to unlock things in games. And no, I didn't think unlockables were very worthy of being excited about when they started happening, because I came from a PC gaming background, where (at the time) you rarely had to unlock anything on a PC game. I thought of unlockables as a rip off, because they kept me from using a part of the game I had already paid for. I don't really mind them so much now because A) They're in every damn game B) There are almost always cheat codes to do the unlocking for you.
Pong keeps track of the score that leads you to victory. Achievements are more associated with things that are interesting side items, not something you have to do to win the game.
Also, score in Pong is merely totalled. Skill points are listed by name. At the end of Pong, did you see a list of "got 1 point", "got 2nd point", "got 3rd point"? No, it's just a total. Skill points (and Achievements have individual names) and are listed as separate things you accomplish.
MS does also assign a value to Achievements and totals them up across games. This is gamerscore, and I despise gamerscore. And oddly, it's the only thing you can't turn off on Live. I can keep people from viewing my achievements or online status, but my gamerscore is right there as part of my card no matter what I do. I don't like gamerscore because it leads to stupid shit like Airbender where games sell (and reward the developer) just because people want to up their gamescore total. I also (and this is getting pretty far off track) don't like how gamescore is implied to be a measure of skill, when it's mostly a measure of how many games you've played (which strongly correlates to how much money MS has made off selling you games).
It's clear skill points and achievements are different from score.

Once I have a gamerscore on PS3 and 360 somebody will need to make a website that combines them into one glorious number that tells the world how much time I've wasted playing video games...haha...

Boring "Accomplishment" Screen. Friggin' Priceless.
As far as Xbox accomplishments go, I don't really see the point. The only accomplishments that I'm steadily trying to complete are the ones in COD4, and that's because I actually get something out of it (XP, new weapons, add-ons, etc..) Normal accomplishments don't really do anything for me.
Now if they can translate those gamerpoints into actual marketplace points, then I'd be more inclined to participate. But, until then, I see no point in it.

And goddamn, that advertisement at left with the CG-ish woman flinching is freaking me out. x_X

It'd be nice to see "accomplishments" in PS3... it's good to play pretend ;)
But really, good for them... looks like ass... but good for them...

As if getting bigger and better weapons in R&C didn't warrant the second/eighth playthough, those skill points certainly did. Good times hunting those down. Insomniac knows how to make 100% achievement fun, not frustrating.
Made it sound like you were getting deeds to land or a gold mine.
But now that Sony's 'accomplishments' are here, I know the HD era has truly arrived. (sarcasm)

"what features would you like to remove today?"
Play games for your own enjoyment, not others.

Personally I dont care about my "Gamerscore" but I do love achievements. It extends the life of some videogames FOR ME at least. Its just a little extra something I guess.
Like if I beat the game, then I go back and try to unlock some achievements and theres alot of replayability in that. Now, when I see some achievements that are just rediculous and not going to be fun then I dont really care for those.
Take COD4 for example...that game has some awesome achievements of which are all single player campaign achievements and that made me play through the campaign multiple times. As where on my PS3 version that I bought for my kids I dont see me doing that. Beat the game and go straight to multiplayer.
Guess its just something you have to experience...who knows? IMO though Sony should go all the way with this Accomplishments deal. You'll see =)
