Thing is Sony are now trying very hard to catch up to the 360 with all these new features. Whilst some are incredible (remote play), others are just pure rubbish. I wasn't impressed by the Home beta and I doubt it's going to have any impact on anything bigger than a snail.

It was better when Sony was copying Nintendo.

I actually agree. As a PS3 owner, I don't care about Home or accomplish-ievements.

If and when I feel the need to measure my e-wang vs my friends', we just play the games. You don't need a "ran someone off the road" achieve-omplishment in Burnout when you go online and actually run someone's ass off the road. Then gloat. Oh the gloating that goes on.

The impact for PS3 owners should be small. Sure, trophies are nice, but I'll really only look once or twice.

However, I assume the tune you're singing would be quite different if they'd implemented this feature at launch. I say that because I was one of the people who poo-poohed Achievements when they first announced them for the 360...2+ years and ~30K points later, and I'm still quite happy they decided to include them.

It was a great idea and adds replay/exploratory value to good games that you might not otherwise take your time with (due to the fact that there are a ton of awesome games still out there waiting to be played.)

Your assumption is wrong, BST. I really just don't care about someone's shopping list of random shit I should do in a game.

Fenix:
The e-wang comes from the score, the only purpose of which is to say "My GS is higher than ur GS". Viewing the list of things they've actually obtained is superior in every way I can think of, and you don't need points for that.

In General:
If you want the list of suggestions, fine, I just don't care. That's why I don't understand it when people say they'll get the 360 version of a multi-platform game "just for the achievements". I don't think they add anything worthwhile to the game; they won't make a bad game good and they don't make good games better. If you like activating skulls in Halo 3 because they have cool effects, the points don't (or at least shouldn't) mean squat to you. This is why I don't care about achievements. I don't need a list of suggestions to do what's fun, I will do the fun stuff anyway.

I don't know, applied like this HOME could totally rule, if and only if you had an option to exit from the game and load straight into HOME

Integrating it as some kind of "game world" could make it the differentiating feature the PS3 has been looking for

I would venture that this is a temporary transitional design until Sony comes up with something less uninspired. Then again, I said the same thing about the PS Store...

I hope so. I don't want full screen notifications of anything DMC4 related that isn't horrible monster stabbing, for which they could just show the stabbing.

And the PSStore isn't bad in hd, but it is soul-crushingly bad in SD. It would be nice if it weren't web based and used some schmancy XMB category integration, but so long as it provides download buttons and demos, I find it acceptable.

The store is HTML and could be upgraded to be fancy-schmancyness... but really, it's functional, and I try to spend as little time in there as possible. Get in, queue up a dozen downloads, get out.... play a game or watch a movie while they download.

I have no idea what it looks like in SD. It probably sucks. Most HTML sucks in SD. In fact, most things suck in SD.

I'm guessing this is probably a call to an "accomplishment" API in the OS that hasn't been fully fleshed out by Sony yet. Either that, or it's a call to a "message box alert" API, and the DMC devs are just being idiots.

The SD store, FYI, only displays 3 store items at once and doesn't show the "Top Downloads" or whatever from the right side of the screen. It is made of hating commerce.

notable exception being Wii Opera

If i had a USB keyboard and it actually supported better versions of Flash player, I really wouldn't need my PC for anything but word processing...

SD HTML, tailored correctly, can be a perfectly satisfactory experience

I'd rather not have accomplishments be anything other than points toward using at the store as someone else mentioned. Besides, most gamerscores are best saved for McDonalds employment applications.

I do agree, that screen is rather bland and to the point, but that isn't the end of it, as hopefully, it is the beginning of their Home Trophies program (that is, whenever Home launches), so it doesn't matter how the screen looks, as long as the Trophy is kick-ass.

I think it's very probable that Uncharted was actually the first game with Home integration. It has a list of things you earn points for and it already has tailor-made 20 trophies that you find in-game and can view. Oh, and it is a Sony 1st party title, wouldn't they know what is up with Home first?

On top of all of this, my friend at Sony said Uncharted is a great game, but that "it was a shame Home isn't out yet" in relation to Uncharted, implying it does something if you play it with Home already.

Honestly, I can't see how Home would improve a game like Uncharted (or DMC4). Neither has co-op or any kind of online play, and I don't care if people can view my e-penis online, so what is it going to do for me? It'll be interesting to find out I suppose.

Boy, that screen is ugly. I takes the "most obtrusive in-game screen" cake by far, blowing right past the previous record holder, the game load screen.

Gamerscore and achievements are some of the best aspects of the 360 for me. I have done so much "out of the box" playing that has really given my games more life and enjoyment. The Call of Duty series (well 2 and 4 anyway....3 was poop) is a perfect example. I would have never played and beaten the game on Veteran had it not been for the achievement system and beating CoD4 on veteran is one of my gaming highlights and I am very proud to have done it.

That being said, I could give a rats ass about Home and "accomplishments". If anyone sees this other than a thinly veiled in game advertising venue and IM client then they have another thing coming. I would rather play games then buy new pants for my little guy from the Gap store that I unlocked by beating Metal Gear Solid. I have a wife and kids and friends and a career. When I have 2 hours to sit down and game I want to to just that. Sony, give me games, not Second Life.

Thank god I have my 360 with stacks of awesome games to keep me busy.

Achievements love them or hate them.

Achievements if done right are fun, entertaining, add value to the game and feel like you’ve done something extraordinary even when more than 1,000,000 persons already did the same, a good example is Dead Rising or The orange box.

Achievements when they go wrong can be infuriating, frustrating, boring and more like a second Job like the ones in Crackdown, Assassins’ Creed or Shadowrun.

There are also easy achievements which pretty much reward you for doing nothing like the ones in Bioshock and COD4 except for “Mile high club” that one is a bitch because the god damn awful XB360 controller makes it completely hard.

I like achievements but they are rarely fun to obtain, Gears of War for example I obtained every Single player achievement because the game was fun but I never got all the multiplayer achievement because depended on quantity and with my limited time I rather played something else.I love achievements that unlock gamerpics, those are awesome.

Now if this text doesn’t make sense is because I have a cold and I have an effing headache also I feel sleepy.

Why is a screen telling you that you accomplished something suddenly proof of Home integration? I've seen screens like this since my NES days, mostly for telling you you've unlocked a cheat or something.

Blatant speculation topped with idiotic rumor.

The gaming industry would be fine without Sony. Sony piggy-backed the PS1 on a failed partnership with Nintendo. If they hadn't have stepped up and made the Playstation, Sega would probably still be in the game, and we'd be just fine.

Choose and activate one of the following:

• Sega>Sony,Fact.

Why it had to be Sega? Sony should be the one dead .I hope you are happy with your flopstation (I haven't used that word in a while) because I'm not. I’ll rather have a Dreamcast 2 than a effing PS3.

Your stupid Sony killed Sega (Ok that's not true Sega pretty much "An hero'ed" themselves).

• Melodramatic much?

• Sacrifice a Dark Magician on the field, summon a spell caster of your choose ignoring summoning conditions, it is destroyed by this card effect at the end of the battle step.

Because Joystiq wants to be cool and Xbox 360 is cool. Its pretty easy to comprehend actually.

Your comment just kinda made me realize that Sony just seems all over the board on what they want to do with the Ps3, that is just a small example. BC or no BC? Do we push BD more than games? What are we? Do we kill off the 20 gig model? the 80 gig? This is the main reason why I no longer have a Ps3.

Why do people insist on "playing consoles" when the fun is in playing games? When I'm playing Rock Band or Uncharted, the fact that someone else has a different hard drive size than me or is playing a BluRay disc in their PS3 doesn't bother me one bit.

I also think some of you have a great idea in creating an economy on either PSN or Live by transferring gamerpoints into currency online. They could make it where every gamerpoint is like a fraction of a penny (lets be honest, some of you guys would make them go broke if it were 1 point=$1) I know they will never do that though, bastards.

i seriously doubt that is going to be the standard "Accomplishment" screen across all games from now on. it's probably just a place holder til Home gets here with something or it's just the developers being lazy cause thats just the default OS alert screen. plus the fact that you have to press a button to leave the alert is retarded. it should pop up in the right hand corner like every other alert on the PS3.

Kotaku isn't anti-Ms, they are pro-furry and yaoi that's all. Reasons why I stop visiting that site, I’m not making this up, seriously.

For some reason Kotaku love Japanese people too much and almost never have news about non-Nintendo systems, they also hate the PS3.

Also would you really love a system which doesn’t do anything particularly good, it seems it’s only advantage is that it never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, never gonna run around and desert you ,never gonna make you cry, never gonna say goodbye, never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

The fact that it's an accomplishments *screen* irks me. What happens if you unlock three or four accomplishments at once? Does that mean you have to hit X four times to dismiss four accomplishment screens? That would suck.

I doubt this shows much of anything. Other games with Accomplishments or their equivalent (that I've personally witnessed, there could be more):

The Darkness
Ratchet and Clank
Uncharted

I seriously doubt The Darkness will fling trophies into Home.

You don't seem to mind that your car/truck has an engine, 4 wheels, windshield and so many other things that some car way back when had? Why is motion control or CD based software, achievements or anything else gamewise off limits?

Why has nobody pointed out that this screen does not interrupt gameplay? The screen shows up between missions, just before you save the game, if you haven't looked at your Accomplishments list beforehand.

Seeing as the Accomplishments were done by Capcom and NOT Sony, I think it's safe to say this isn't the way all Accomplishment screens will look. More than likely it'll be the little corner pop-up that's default to the PS3 OS.

I'm not trying to defend Sony out of fanboy-ism, as I, personally, am not fond of the name "Accomplishments" myself. But I'm not here thinking of another word.... so whatever.

And for what it's worth, since there are so many people whining about the "20 minute download".... that most likely means 20 minutes MAX. When I booted up the game on my PS3 it took the better part of a whopping 6 MINUTES to complete the download, and 11 minutes on my friend's.

I know I sound like a fanboy... but so what... I should be the one to attempt to educate the un-knowing. Seeing as no one else felt like stepping up the the plate....

@LS2

you don't like gamerscore because it makes people buy games that you don't like so they can unlock more achievements? of course i can't see your gamerscore, but i'd be willing to bet that you're one of those gs whores constantly padding your score and then pretending like you don't care about it ... that OR you actually DON'T care about it, in which case not being able to turn it off wouldn't bother you in the least, nor would other people playing games that you don't like to increase THEIR scores ... unless you're ashamed of your LOW score and want to turn it off so no one sees it, in BOTH cases achievements matter to you very much ... basically everything you said contradicts everything else you said ... twice ...
