First4Figures announces classic Sonic vinyl line

First4Figures have done it again. First it was Zelda, then Metroid. Now, they've breathed life into the classic Sonic the Hedgehog series with a line of vinyl figures, depicting Sonic, Tails and Knuckles as they were before their "extreme" redesign for Sonic Adventure.

In fact, First4Figures has done a lot of great work since we last reported on them. Check out the group's site for a classy Sheik figurine, Altair from Assassin's Creed, and a gorgeous, LED-lit version of Samus's gunship from Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.

The Knuckles, Tails and Sonic figures will comprise the first wave of Sonic figures manufactured, and are due out around July 2008. No word yet on pricing, though expect a premium on these high-quality pieces of fan-cred.

Ah, takes me back to a time when the name 'Sonic the Hedgehog' didn't strike me with a deep sense of bitterness and disgust.

Can we just get a damn Sonic game that's good, Sega? Make it 2D even, just restore the franchise!

You should try Sonic Rush on DS

I've got that game, and it's pretty good. Doesn't feel like one of the classics though.

Now these are the versions of Sonic & friends that look the way they're supposed to. The newer versions (with the long limbs and etc.) look like crap. I think the next major Sonic game for a home console should be a complete reboot of the series and feature a Sonic of old with compelling, superspeed gameplay. Perhaps the only way to achieve that realistically would be to hand over Sonic to a completely fresh development team. You know I'm right.

I don't know, the redesigns make more anatomic sense than the old models. I never understood how the old Sonic could run so fast with his short legs and stout, pudgy body.

It's the same phenomenon that lets the pudgy Super Mario run and jump so fast! Duh! =)

Mario's legs are built for endurance, not pure speed. For something to be fast, they need to rapidly cover a lot ground in a short amount of time, and Sonic's long legs are built for that.

This reminds me of how much I would like to have a Dreamcast...

I remember way back in year 2000 (8 years ago?!)my dad woke me up like at 5am and he asked me... "Do you want a Playstation 2 or a Dreamcast" I said PS2, somehow he got it, he followed a truck to a Fred Meyers and forced them to sell him one before they were even in the system.

Then it broke 2 weeks after warranty, now I'm on my 3rd...

I almost think I should have said Dreamcast...

Yeah, DC was awesome. But me thinks you'd have been in another console in 2 and a half years...

Ahhh, now there are the characters I knew and loved from my childhood.

I demand a side scrolling 2.5D sonic game for xbox live arcade thats fast entertaining, has those short 2 second sequences of kool movement and that will revitalize the way I used to look at sonic.

Pretty cool but I like my Sonic Adventure one better..however I really do want the Samus one in her Varia suit.

Would love a Ryo Hazuki one for Shenmue but that will never happen. :(
