RollerCoaster Tycoon lawsuit ends in settlement
A lawsuit started against Atari in 2005 by RollerCoaster Tycoon game designer Chris Sawyer has finally come to a close, with both parties agreeing to an out-of-court settlement paid to Sawyer. Develop reports that the closure of the suit might have been influenced by new Infogrames CEO David Gardner, who is tasked with revitalizing Atari's tarnished image.
As we originally reported back in 2005, Chris Sawyer sued publisher Atari over unpaid royalties, which at the time were estimated at $4.8 million USD. Details of the settlement have not been disclosed, though at this point no loss of money for Atari can be seen as a good loss.

Welp, looks like Alone in the Dark just got delayed. Again.
Mr.ESC @ Feb 5th 2008 4:13PM
Wow.
Well I have to say that I played the original and loved every second of it.I still remember those predeterminated rides,oh good times.
I never use them tho',too expensive and I could build something better with less money.
Gehodra @ Feb 5th 2008 4:22PM
Predeterminated? I like it.
James @ Feb 5th 2008 4:15PM
Funny thing is RCT got crap after 2.
Mr. Sawyer I'd like RCT2 on DS or PSP plz.
heyo007 @ Feb 5th 2008 4:24PM
I second that request. Make it happen and I'll buy Chris Sawyer a hamburger*.
*Hamburger may be made entirely out of low-fat, low-carb air. Actually hamburger is subject to even exist
James @ Feb 5th 2008 4:26PM
This burger is so lovely and moist.
Zeus.:God @ Feb 5th 2008 4:50PM
*This YOUR MOM hamburger is a really good value!

The best part was throwing people in the sea to drown, or build roller coasters of death with a huge ramp and no landing. My theme park was, needless to say, the most unsafe.
Zeus.:God @ Feb 5th 2008 7:46PM
WTF? How did my comment get ranked lower after being 3 heart'd? Goddammit... That was gold, I tell you, GOLD.
quickshade @ Feb 5th 2008 4:28PM
RCT2 was a great game. I think I still have that in my closet, going to dig it out.

Glad that's over.
mr mobius @ Feb 5th 2008 4:48PM
But if it has short queue, toilet nearby, a janitor assigned to work nearby, away from food stalls and is cheap you may still have a success.
Mr.ESC @ Feb 5th 2008 5:03PM
Yeah but the entry to that ride is way too expensive.
mash440 @ Feb 6th 2008 6:40AM
You forgot to add an exit path.
Lone Starr @ Feb 5th 2008 4:32PM
Also, spelling FTW
motang @ Feb 5th 2008 4:48PM
One of the most addictive games!
paffinity @ Feb 5th 2008 4:56PM
Did Chris Sawyer also do Theme Park?
derickoleary @ Feb 5th 2008 7:31PM
I dont think so. Theme Park was made by Bullfrog and I dont think Sawyer was ever affiliated with them.
Zeus.:God @ Feb 5th 2008 5:09PM
*You don't have enough funds!*
There goes Alone in the Dark...
PhoenixSS @ Feb 5th 2008 5:53PM
I was just playing this game a couple of days ago. It was worse than World of Warcraft. I spent like 5 hours maintaining my fucking theme park. Even after I had completed the objective.
Good job Chris Sawyer. You and your... freaking awesome game about roller coasters and selling balloons. I KNOW OF YOU!
Conda @ Feb 5th 2008 8:43PM
haha, i love this game. i got the urge to play it the other day so set up a virtual machine with 98 just to play it
Todd @ Feb 6th 2008 10:42AM
RCT is easily one of my top 10 games of all time. Not 3D though. Whats Chris doing now? I would love to have a newer version of the 2d RCT with new rides and updated graphics.
RobLink @ Feb 6th 2008 3:38PM
Man, I missed so much college because of this game. I picked up RCT3 with both expansions for £20, but never really got into it.
Anyone remember the 'coaster building competitions they used to have on the website? They were epic. Anyone?.....
Just me then.
