The latest issue of EGM is imparting some spicy rumors upon us. Perhaps most shocking is word that Capcom may be passing the buck on Dead Rising 2, leaving the sequel in the hopefully-capable hands of a North American developer.
The rumor doesn't state which studio would be working on the Dead Rising followup, although it does suggest that the developer is based in Los Angeles -- ruling out our guess of Texas-based Gearbox Studios, who only recently announced a "really big" project in pre-production.
Of course, they wouldn't call it a rumor if it were necessarily true. We'd like to see Capcom remain involved with the Dead Rising franchise, but if it does in fact pass on to a western studio we can only hope it falls into the right hands.

If they make it like the original but fix the stupid save system then they have a +1 purchase from me.

It's thinking like that which threatens the existence of such gems like RE4. Sequels need to revolutionize the experience.

As long as they make it so the main character doesn't control like a rock. I thought I was playing the original Castlevania.

Isn't handing a sequel to a different development team almost always some kind of suicide... (Refer to COD3 as a point...)

Although COD3 wasn't any sort of evolutionary step forward for the franchise, I really don't get why the conventional wisdom is now that it was "bad". The game garnered generally good reviews, and sold well enough.
This isn't the first time I've heard people refer to COD3, as though it was a blight on the franchise. I just don't get it.

Based on its own merit, CoD3 is a passable (if not derivative) FPS title. However, based in the context of the CoD franchise, 3 was a less-than-stellar outing.

Call of Duty 3 was terrible and glitchy, and I wasted a whole 5 quid renting it, only to put it back in its box a few levels in. (This was about a year ago, no influence of CoD4)
Also, just selling well and getting good reviews doesn't make a game good. Look at Halo 3, that was a rubbish game with crappy gameplay (but still better than CoD3), yet it still got rave reviews and sold way too much...

Cal: The fact that Halo 3 is the most played game on XBOX Live tells me your opinion of both games is just that... an opinion.
I own both games, and found both to be enjoyable. I didn't think Halo 3 was the holy grail of gaming like most seemed to, but it was worth the money.
Likewise, COD3 didn't blow me away, but I enjoyed the SP campaign right to the end.
Out of curiosity though, what bugs and glitches did you encounter? I don't recall running into any in my experience.

Eh, Metroid Prime, for example, got good reviews. Although I personally hated it.

And what are reviews? Glorified opinions which touch upon some more technical aspects too (and are often far too swayed by hype and first impressions).
As for the glitches (from what I can remember), visible enemy spawning, the house(s) of infinite spawning nazis, nazis having leaf penetrating bullets, while yours don't, invisible barriers stopping me shooting between certain types of cover and the enemy having the ability to make a (near?) impossible kill on you while you're well behind cover.

It's hard to ruin a franchise that is based around hitting something in the head with sharp objects. That's like, what, two check marks?

Good. Maybe the shooting controls won't fucking suck this time around. I mean, Jesus, did't you guys make RE:4? Why not just ape that aiming system?

Well Dead Rising did need a western (PC) style save system so this is probably for the best.

I never had problems with the save system except in infinity mode, seriously they should allow players to save at least once in that mode.
You know like Super Mario 3 save system, you can save and continue at any time but if you screw up you have to start again.

The save system was specific to the style of gameplay. It would be no where near as challenging or frustrating if you could just save anywhere at any time...

I wouldn't want to see the saves be anywhere any time but maybe a little more accessible than the few they had. Also online co-op or survival would be awesome... No deathmatch, don't think that would be worth my time...

What if everyone was a zombie :-P
Online Co-Op is where it would be at, survival, even campaign (or story mode in this case).
Deathmatch has been done, but even CoD dosn't have Zombies :-P

Paragraph... Exactly. But I don't think death match would make sense. Unless there were not too many zombies and there already is a promising title... Left Behing I think? Where players are humans against zombies where some players are zombies... or they could do the outbreak thing where you are allied until you "die" and become one of the many zombies...

I would love an offline and online Co-op mode for survival mode.
Sorry for interrupting but I believe a Deatmatch is possible; players could play as survivors and the rest like Psychopaths. It would be Survivors Vs psychopaths’ vs Zombies.
Or
Players play as survivors like in infinity mode, killing each other for food to stay in play.
I would really like to see a co-op mode in DR2 and some sort of save system for infinity mode, I could play infinity mode for days if there was a save system like the one I described, you can save at any time but if you get killed you have to start over and if you want a challenge you can start at level 1.

God Lord NO!.
I mean I like Gearbox, well sort of ,I mean the only game I played from them was Opposition force which was pretty good (By the way valve wassup with dat?)
But Dead Rising is one of my favorite games ever, Dead Rising alone justified the purchase of the XB360,I don’t want a crappy sequel.
I have a bad feeling about this,I hope is just a rumor.

Even infinity ward, the original creators of the series and COD COD 2 and the awesome that is 4 do not acknowledge the existence of 3... Not to say it was horrible but it was nothing compared to 2.

I really don't like it when a game series changes developers. It usually doesn't end up living up to the original.
Dead Rising is definitely one of my favorite 360 games, and I want the sequel to surpass it... maybe these new guys could do it.
Then again, this is just a rumor. Dead Rising 2 might not even exist...but I'd like it to!

Or, they've handed off the development of the PS3 version to a western developer. Perhaps one in Santa Monica. Perhaps a developer bankrolled by Sony.

I think the game could benefit from a Western developer. In my experience and opinion, there are a lot of common design choices Japanese developers make that just drive me up the wall. Western developers do that too, but not quite as bad in my eyes.

I have to admit, I really hated the 1st DR... they would have to drastically change some gameplay elements for me to buy the next. Perhaps a new developer can make it happen.

And why do we need a sequel when the first one was awesome and wrapped up everything completely in the horror genres "grim, but closed" ending?
There are so many games that I feel do NOT need sequels. This and Condemned are 2 of them.

Ok I'm happy they're making dead rising 2 but I still would love to see it made by Capcom... Then again they could be busy with Resident Evil 5... But in DR2 I just wanna see a better save system, a destructible enviroment and multiplayer. Then I'll be happy
