3D Realms disputes confirmation of Duke Nukem Forever in 2008
"Duke Nukem Forever confirmed for 2008," heralds an unlikely source in Dallas Business Journal. What the modest, Texas newspaper actually seems to suggest is that 3D Realms is "on target" to release the mythical sequel sometime this year, though company co-owner Scott Miller adds, "we may miss the mark by a month or two" (wink, wink). Miller also hinted that "hitting the big three" (in this case, PC, Xbox 360 and PS3) is the obvious development strategy, but he continued to stress that 3D Realms has not "formally announced any platforms for DNF."
3D Realms informed Shacknews that any suggestion by Dallas Business Journal that DNF's release date and platforms have been confirmed is erroneous.Expect an official statement from 3D Realms later today. Update: 3D Realms president George Broussard lays it out loud and clear in the follow-up statement issued today. "The release date is still 'when it's done,' and will be until the appropriate moment. Platforms have not been finalized or announced. You can rest assured that we are moving toward a goal and that the recently released teaser trailer is the start of that process and seeing more of the game, sooner than later."
We should also note that Dallas Business Journal seemingly confirms ongoing rumor that Duke Nukem 3D is bound for Xbox Live Arcade and will include online multiplayer and co-op support. "We're really excited about bringing classic Duke to the 360," Miller allegedly told the paper, "We're talking to Microsoft about getting a release slot sometime this year."

quickshade @ Feb 6th 2008 1:41PM
they miss quoted him. he really said they may miss that mark by a year or two.
Jebbery @ Feb 6th 2008 1:41PM
rrriiiiggghhhttt.... so they're on target to deliver it this year to no announced target platforms? Isn't that another way of saying "We have no idea what the f*ck we're doing, but expect that we'll be able to get something working on some platform sometime in the future."
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Feb 6th 2008 2:26PM
Its probably running UE3, so its not a problem.
Or they got their thumbs up there asses again (still?) and haven't actually programmed anything yet.
DangerMouse @ Feb 6th 2008 1:42PM
they better release that updated version of duke3d on steam if they know what's good for them.
Shagittarius @ Feb 6th 2008 1:46PM
I came here to develope a game and chew bubble gum...and I'm all out of developers.
MariosInferno @ Feb 6th 2008 1:50PM
Honestly. Why does 3DRealms even bother addressing this crap anymore. Yes, they know the game is insanely late...there's a lot on the line, etc. BUT, "When it's done".
I'd like nothing more than to be walking through a Best Buy and just find DNF sitting there with ZERO warning. That would be sweet.
Moofree @ Feb 6th 2008 1:54PM
Zero warning? What, like Quake 4 or Unreal Tournament 3?

I'm gonna rip off your head and sh*t down your double post....
maverick_saturn_626 @ Feb 6th 2008 1:56PM
They are building up the hype ;)
chispito @ Feb 6th 2008 2:07PM
It's not hype. They're erroneously operating under the assumption that the entire gaming community is pissed off at them and will give them tons of free publicity, which will thrust their game into the limelight. Maybe five years ago this would have been true.
I don't think anyone cares anymore.
Blazur @ Feb 6th 2008 2:07PM
Can Dallas Business Journal please inform us when both Spore and StarCraft 2 will hit the shelves?
K thx bye.
Dr. Jerk Face @ Feb 6th 2008 2:08PM
How can anyone seriously care about this game anymore? It's going to come out after all this time and it's going to be a complete shit storm of fail. There is absolutely no way anything that 3D Realms can say or produce that is culturally relevant or worth any money whatsoever.
DangerMouse @ Feb 6th 2008 2:11PM
video game tits and language were cool back when i was 13. Now, they're everywhere, so this game has to be one of the best games ever to live up to the hype.
of course, underneath all of the tits and cursing was a really good game, though.
NATO_Duke @ Feb 6th 2008 2:46PM
I truly believe this game will cure diseases and end world hunger. You should too.
Fortyseven @ Feb 6th 2008 2:48PM
Why would it have to fail, necessarily? 'Prey' turned out pretty good, despite the development hell it went through.
That said, I'm pretty sure saying "when it's done" isn't cute anymore. Not after all this time, at least. Being able to get away with saying that was bought with the good-will earned by their excellent efforts with Duke 3D, and the BUILD-based titles that followed it.
But that bank account of Cool ran dry a long time ago.
I think that teaser video, fun as it was for us, really should have waited until they were confident and far along enough to specify a launch window.
Without knowing what their ACTUAL plans are, maybe it made sense for them to release it. From an outsiders point of view, though, without something concrete following it...well, with each passing month it quickly looks like it was just 3DR waving it's dick around again, like they did with the parade of obsolete videos showing off the game at past E3's.
I want to believe.
FOXHOUND @ Feb 6th 2008 3:07PM
Duke Nukem will testify before the U.S. Supreme Court about Human Growth Hormone/BALCO usage before this game ever gets released.
Oh, and check out his "new haircut" on youtube.
James @ Feb 6th 2008 2:09PM
"The big 3"? So I take it PC, Wii and DS.
DangerMouse @ Feb 6th 2008 2:11PM
No. Big three that can handle the graphical load.
James @ Feb 6th 2008 4:23PM
So why didn't they say it was going to be PC, Mac and Linux then?
maverick_saturn_626 @ Feb 6th 2008 2:13PM
Meh, if it looks and plays as good as Gears, its got my cash :) All they need to do that Gears didn't have, is have half naked women :P
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Feb 6th 2008 2:27PM
I predict an AO rating for this title when it never comes out.
DP @ Feb 7th 2008 6:42PM
Come out? I'm still dubious.
WiNG @ Feb 6th 2008 2:19PM
Big fucking surprise.
gregory mitchell @ Feb 6th 2008 2:28PM
this is gonna end up like prey...people simply just didnt care anymore. they already had his clone on xbox1 it was called serious sam. big crazy guns, lots a trash talking only thing missing was naked women which this wont have cause then it will need an AO rating
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Feb 6th 2008 3:03PM
Serious Sam was seriously awesome.
Seriously.
Greg2k @ Feb 6th 2008 3:10PM
I'm pretty confident DNF is one of those games that could actually get away with being AO. In fact, it could even be beneficial to sales, considering those who are actually interested in the game are well over 20 right now, and an AO would futher suggest that the original theme of Duke remains intact. The last thing I want after 10 or more years of waiting is a Duke Nukem game with no foul fucking language or with some form of censorship.
I know the fact that WalMart won't carry AO games is an issue, but I honestly think people who end up buying the damn game if it even exists would have no problem getting it online or in other stores. No such problem in Europe, for instance.
Either way, this game better be out before Hillary gets a say.
Jeff-Bob @ Feb 6th 2008 2:45PM
Why don't they just cancel this already? I guess being the laughing stock of the gaming community is fun for them.
rom @ Feb 6th 2008 2:49PM
Am I the only one that thinks that picture makes Duke Nukem look like Bruce Willis?
As far as the game goes, I'm no longer interested in it. I used to be interested...you know...back when it was first announced, but that was too long ago.
If it turns out that the game is actually good when released- I *might* reconsider.
Greg2k @ Feb 6th 2008 3:01PM
Think about it: if this game were to have come out when scheduled and if 3D Realms decided it to be multiplatform, it wouldn't even be on the PS2/XBOX/Gamecube, but N64/PS1/DC.
Thank kinda scares me for some odd reason.
monkeymonkeymonkey @ Feb 6th 2008 3:08PM
sheesh. Im not going to get the game simply because of the shenanigans that the company has gone thru. I expect the game to be crap anyway.
Shimrra @ Feb 6th 2008 3:34PM
Honestly who still cares about this series(if you can call it that). I can only remember playing just one Duke Nukem game and even that wasnt all that.
Korova @ Feb 6th 2008 3:50PM
They need to stop messin' with our hearts and minds.
Or we are just going to have to beat this joke dead into the ground.
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Feb 6th 2008 4:00PM
Confirmed: Duke Nukem Forever delayed again.
B1gC72 - PSN: KillaKornbread @ Feb 6th 2008 4:59PM
why are they still even trying? i dont even remember the first one? was it really all that good that you would want to wait 10 years for a sequel?
the way i see it, whatever they put out now, whenever (if) they put it out, will not be worth a 10 year wait.
Foetoid @ Feb 24th 2008 7:55PM
Why are Blizzard even trying to make a Starcraft sequal after 10 years? Same reason, this game still has a huge following and will still sell very well. Fans have been waiting this long for a reason, they want a new Duke Nukem game. I know i'll buy this on launch day cause i know it'll be worth the wait. I've waited just as long for a proper Starcraft sequal.
rikimaru @ Feb 6th 2008 5:33PM
"Those alien scum are gonna pay, for tearin' up my ride!"
"Cool!"
"Shake it baby"
"Watcha waiting for, Christmas?"
"Damn!"
Oh Duke, you were so cool.
Drew @ Feb 7th 2008 12:41PM
Sadly the phrase "sooner than later" loses a bit of credibility after a decade.
Faar @ Feb 6th 2008 11:08PM
This game better make it out to stores BEFORE SUMMER or it's gonna be a no-buy purely on general principle, regardless of how good it (probably purely by accident) happens to be.
The longer a game is cooked the blander it tends to be, and Duke's the most overcooked ham in the gaming industry, EVER. Not too hard to draw conclusions from that...
