danny/OxygenJunkie:

have you tried deleting the XBLA games and re-downloading them?

also, is this the original gamertag from whence they were purchased?

To Tucker, the composite outputs from the 360 is 1080p, you just have to set the cord to HD and not plug in the yellow cables.

To Al, I also had difficulty getting a new Elite after my Pro died back in November, but luckily I got the last Elite at a local Best Buy. Although, I don't think there are any more Elites, I have seen plenty of Arcades at my nearest Best Buy, so hopefully you have as good luck getting an Elite as I did.

actually component can not upscale dvd to 1080p nor can it play HD-DVD at 1080p, 1080i is the highest resolution component (on the 360) will allow for video playback.

It's 1080p only for games. If you want 1080p for HD-DVDs or to upscale your standard DVDs you need the VGA cable if you aren't blessed with an HDMI XBox.

Like Matt said ;)

In fact over the component cables the 360 can ONLY do progressive scan for DVD's. On a smaller screen, like my 26 inch LCD, thats probably okay, but anything over 32 inches, you probobly want that upscaling. That Mad Katz converter is your only other option. Well, there is one other option. Buy a seperate Upconvert DVD player. I've seen them as low as $50. And it would save a bit of wear and tear on your 360.

Does your TV have DVI? You can get ahold of DVI to Dsub(VGA) adapters to be able to use your VGA cable.

Downloadable retail games + unfriendly DRM = weeks of re-downloading games if you have to get your console replaced. No thank you.

On the other hand, downloadable retail games = no more "disc unreadable" errors.

Unless they simply become drive errors.

JPSchneid: My keyboard does the same thing. The keypad just doesn't work for some reason. The number keys on the top row work fine for me.

Tucker: Madcatz has recently come out with an HDMI converter for the xbox 360. It supports 1080p, so if you are rolling old school you can pick one of these up. Downside, it's $90. :( Here is the website:

With this, you'll only be able to play games in 1080p. To get 1080p for HD-DVDs and upscaling normal DVDs you still need either the VGA cable or an XBox 360 with an HDMI cable.

I'm not saying you are wrong, but I was wondering where you learned this fact. Please elaborate, or link us to your source, so that we may all learn. Thanks.

The region you live in and the system's sell rate locally has something to do with it, but most of the 360 supply issues can be traced back to Christmas and the mass liquidation of stock. The Elite / Pro Holiday bundle was just that - somethings for the holidays. Now stores are trying to reload on regular elite and pro units.

@ The GFK
I too have NAT problems. I bought a router that says 'Xbox Live Compatible' on it. I even bought the official (outrageously overpriced) MS wifi dongle. But my network has a mind of it's own. Sometimes, I'll have a Strict NAT, then it'll be Open for weeks, then Moderate for a day or two.
It makes no sense to me, and neither 1-800-MYXBOX, Linksys or Comcast can help me.
Yours in frustration,
Jonman

I bet you its because your xbox's IP is dynamic thus changing the strictness every so often.
edit the setting and make it become static!
if you need more help google it
or ask me here for some more info

Just to clarify: I'm a poor-ass college student, so purchasing new hardware is out of the question (at least until sometime in May when I get me a big boy job).

Basically what I did was this: I switched my ethernet port from an "innie" to an "outtie". The internet now flows in through the wireless card into the computer through the ethernet and into my XBOX.

The IPs on my comp and box are dynamic, so is that where the problem lies? If so, will it assign a number automatically or do I have to?

The problem is definitely not in the router, I know that much. A lot of Halo has been played in the living room with no trouble at all. As soon as I retreat to the bedroom to connect, Halo shoots me a message that the NAT is not open. I've tried going to my firewall to open things up, but I got in over my head pretty quickly so I decided against monkeying with things.

I had strict for about a year, and found from googling and forums, that having a static IP causes it, unfortunately in order to get a dynamic I needed to buy an additional switcher because my set-up was causing problems assigning dynamically.
I did that set to dynamic and worked fine, I tried a few days later to go back to static and I got strict, so the new switcher didn't make a difference, changing the IP did, but I needed the switcher so I could get a proper dynamic IP.

Dustin has gotten all the other achievements but is missing Maybe Next Time Buddy? That's like, the easiest one. You can even get a friend to go on Rumble Pit with you and he can let you get it with a ghost, since it's ANY free for all playlist. Just a heads up.

Unless he's trying to do it legit.

Thanks for answering my question, even if the answer made me sad.

I keep thinking I should pick up a Halo 3 360, but if I am going to upgrade I really should get a Elite, as I don't have HDMI on my TV, just DVI and Component and my DVI is in use, so the larger HDD is the only reason to upgrade.
I always thought the Halo3 was a LTD, but as most shops here in the UK have them I thought maybe MS produced too many and they would go down in price, but so far they don't seem to be shifting them, if you think the US is clearing them out, maybe I can get me a Halo3 to go with my Cat Helmet on the cheap.

Luckily for me at Xmas somebody I was playing against, not a friend, just got the game, and wanted some APs, so we helped each other out. I doubt I could have got that one legit because the damned ghost is gone by the time the press LB to hijack even comes up.

On the 360 lack of availability - it's a good thing especially this time of year.

It means MS are flushing stock which means new units/SKUs are coming in and hopefully an announcement of a price cut.

This is what I'm hoping. If I'm going to wait for 2 or 3 months longer than I should have, then I'd hope I could get some sort of perk out of it.
