Bungie's next game is like, 'totally different'
One of Bungie's many skills is to talk up future projects without saying much at all, with the latest edition of the now independent company's podcast providing a sterling example of vague vocalizing. In a discussion between Luke Smith, Frank 'O Connor, Brian Gerrard and lead designer Christian Allen, we learn that Bungie's next title will be "totally different" to what you may have envisioned.
Though it's early days yet, we're assured the work-in-progress is looking "very cool." As an adventure involving armor-clad tough guys gallivanting across mysterious space hoops is almost certainly ruled out (we're not mad about it), what do you think is nestled within Bungie's chiffon sleeve?

Pretty sure their best days are behind them.
Cyro @ Feb 6th 2008 4:44PM
Sir, I think you are in the wrong place. You should go here : Http://www.ps3fanboys.com
and get some troll food.
Thanks and Bona petite!
Daniel D @ Feb 6th 2008 5:01PM
No one cared about them until the original Halo and the 2 games after that were worse. (if you look past dual wielding etc) Piggy backing on the success of the original Halo.
why not the LS2/LS7? @ Feb 6th 2008 5:20PM
What the hell does his comment have to do with being a PS3 fanboy?
Trev @ Feb 6th 2008 5:32PM
Actually Marathon was a pretty successful game back in the day, but when PC gaming took over Mac gaming it really ate it for being on the 'bad' platform. Otherwise, I kind of agree. Halo 2 & 3 really didn't have the magic that Halo 1 pulled off.
Jonah Falcon @ Feb 6th 2008 6:08PM
Forget Myth, have we?
playwhutyalike @ Feb 6th 2008 8:59PM
I can't believe that you lost hearts on a general, non- fanboy, statement. Wait, I can totally believe that.
That will teach you to come in here with your opinions.
Abuzar @ Feb 6th 2008 9:48PM
You mean Bon Appétit. "Bona Petite"? What the hell were you thinking? Idiot.
Cyro @ Feb 6th 2008 10:17PM
@Abuzar:
WTF? I dont know any french, so I let Firefox do the automatic spelling corrections and look how that turned out. :S
PS: Thanks for calling me an idiot. You sir are a true scholar.
Abuzar @ Feb 6th 2008 10:23PM
Anytime. It's such an obvious thing though, that's why I called you an idiot. No offense, but you had it coming.
It's like when people say "On the Contraire", or "Au Contrary". Just pick one language, English or French and run with it.
BTW the correct terms would be "Au Contraire", or "On the Contrary".
Au Revoir ;)
Saria the Cat @ Feb 7th 2008 12:07AM
French is le suck, whether it's spelled correctly or not.
But I guess someone who knows French may be irked at bad mistakes, just like I die a little inside when people say "kuh-nich-ih-wuh" or "saw-kee."
Geist @ Feb 7th 2008 1:07AM
Argh, people, when did we go from arguing about Bungie's merits to petty squabbling about le Francais?
Oh shit mark me down I don't have the line under the 'c'! And is it masculine or feminine?
J'ai étudié le français pendant sept années et je ne peux pas encore parler la fichue langue.
loof @ Feb 7th 2008 8:53AM
There's a reason why Microsoft bought them in the first place. Marathon and the Myth series were very good games.
Adam @ Feb 6th 2008 4:34PM
Hopefully by "totally different" they mean "actually good".
Doom3killer @ Feb 6th 2008 4:36PM
don't be hating on halo... halo 3 was amazing. i was terrible at halo 2 but at 3, i have already had a clip on bungie favs.
anyway, all of their games have been incredible.. except oni
Trethan @ Feb 6th 2008 6:55PM
Hopefully "totally different" means a game with something other than a new starting weapon.
Honestly, they need a break from the whole Halo thing. Three years between games and it meant getting forge, videos, and an assault rifle? I'd trade all 3 for some innovative gameplay.
And this coming from someone who has a 6 foot + cardboard Master Chief standing in his living room. Sorry Chief.
Noshino @ Feb 6th 2008 6:43PM
and for some weird reason the only game that I own that is developed by Bungie is Oni....great game, and deserves a sequel...
Geist @ Feb 7th 2008 1:09AM
Oni is developed by Bungie? Damn! When did all their innovation suddenly get scrapped for 'generic FPS'?
Cyro @ Feb 7th 2008 8:28AM
@Trethan:
As much as I hate to admitted, you are right. I think Bungie has great potential which was not exactly shown in the development of Halo 3. It really hurts me to say it, coming from a Halo Fan.
Mr Khan @ Feb 6th 2008 4:36PM
zomg! This means their taking control of the Banjo Threeie project!
w00t! Unfounded speculation!
Zeus.:God @ Feb 6th 2008 4:37PM
The end of Halo 3 was the beginning to Marathon.
Cyro @ Feb 6th 2008 4:42PM
No it wasn't. They have already denied this speculation.
Look it up in their forums.
Nevertheless a Marathon game would be awesome.
Zeus.:God @ Feb 6th 2008 5:20PM
They've denied lots of things that ended up being true.
Zeus.:God @ Feb 7th 2008 12:41AM
I would like to mention that I wasn't just saying that because of what I heard... If you've played Marathon (first one), a man in a super suit is woken from "cryo-sleep" on a crashed ship, on a strange planet by a female AI...
Geist @ Feb 7th 2008 1:12AM
Zeus, do not mistake story connections for uninventiveness. I don't know if it is connected or not, but still.
Cyro @ Feb 7th 2008 8:22AM
Well, connection or not, a next-gen Marathon game would be very cool.
Gamer98 @ Feb 6th 2008 4:41PM
@ Daniel D
what a troll just because they are moving on hardly means that their best days are behind them now that they are independent their best days are just ahead I'm sure w/e they are working on will be great you troll.
Obie @ Feb 6th 2008 4:40PM
Halo 4: Finish the fight...for reals yo!
Meh, I am looking forward to COD6 more.
The3rdNuisance @ Feb 6th 2008 5:20PM
You mean Call of Duty 4, right?
Some times its best to imagine tragedies never have, and never
Obie @ Feb 6th 2008 5:29PM
No I mean COD6 as in Infinity Wards next project.
And lets not forget Valve, both very impressive developers.
Ally @ Feb 6th 2008 8:41PM
he means if you dont count 3 and 5 then 6 is actually 4.
wow, i bored myself there :O
StrangeBum @ Feb 6th 2008 9:43PM
I'm just generally tired of FPS games. I want more RPGs dammit. Like a renaissance of the PSX generation. Some of my favorite RPGs are on the playstation. And now it just seems that shooters are the trend. And it's boring one.
samfish @ Feb 6th 2008 4:40PM
I hope it's a candy colored cutesy platformer. Just seeing the insecure Halo fanboys meltdown alone would be worth it.
Mike-453 @ Feb 6th 2008 4:48PM
Don't see why, since Halo is full of cutesy colours and designs anyway which would generally be seen as 'gay'. XD
Zeus.:God @ Feb 6th 2008 5:22PM
While I don't like Halo, I don't see any first person shooter on either the Wii nor the PS3 that is better than it (multiplatform games not included).
Mr.ESC @ Feb 6th 2008 5:26PM
Halo isn't gay,Halo 3 online community by the other hand...
I have to say I like Halo 3 a lot, the multiplayer is pretty damn good but the only mode that could keep me playing is "Zombie" and again is not the online community conformed by people with low intelligence and a vocabulary that would be offensive even for a drunken sailor (they don’t help either) but the online mode just extends the game for a few weeks, same COD4 multiplayer is just there to extend the gameplay for a while and is definitively not eternal. More developers should focus on the actual single story mode more than in the online, Halo 3 and COD4 focus on both so is both games are awesome.
Now I would like to see a platformer, the platformer genera is pretty much dead.
Geist @ Feb 7th 2008 1:21AM
Esc: Mario would like to have a talk with you.
Deck @ Feb 6th 2008 4:40PM
I'm digging the Pimps at Sea prospect!
Tim @ Feb 6th 2008 4:48PM
Seriously guys, come on.
I was surprised that the little survey didn't give us a 'Myth III' option. That's what I want. I think that game would have a very good changing of finally nailing RTS (technically it would be Real Time Tactics) on console.
Geist @ Feb 7th 2008 1:17AM
You know, I would love that even though I absolutely sucked at Myth 2 (never played 1). All I did was sit back with my mages long-range bombing the bad guys. When that strategy become unviable, I was screwed and had no idea what to do.
Lone Starr @ Feb 6th 2008 4:49PM
I'm hoping it will be an adventure involving a jersey-clad tough guy and his animated teammates gallivanting across a basketball court, dunking balls through mysterious space hoops to save said animated teammates.
ArmandoPenblade @ Feb 6th 2008 4:55PM
How about a legitimate sequel to the Myth games? That'd be nice :)
Jim. @ Feb 6th 2008 5:15PM
I don't believe they own the rights to Myth.
robert @ Feb 6th 2008 4:51PM
space hoops?
like a hula-hoop simulator set in space... for kids.
samfish @ Feb 6th 2008 4:56PM
Y'know...that sounds like a good idea.
O
deaftly @ Feb 6th 2008 5:07PM
Wii exclusive?
Anticrawl @ Feb 6th 2008 4:58PM
A sequal to Halo 3 without Halo in the name. Also it will be 3rd person/squad based or it will be a RTS game with the ability to zoom in and control "heroes" on the battlefield.
Shmil @ Feb 6th 2008 5:28PM
weren't all of those ideas for the original halo? back when it was going to be a Mac exclusive?
Anticrawl @ Feb 6th 2008 5:30PM
Yeah pretty much.
deaftly @ Feb 6th 2008 5:04PM
O-lah - Master Chief goes to Cancun!
