Responding to Variety's outing of a Grand Theft Auto movie which failed to get off the ground, series developer Rockstar has told MTV News that it wasn't involved "in any way, shape or form." The company's VP of creativity, Dan Houser, said that Rockstar "never" considered moving ahead with such a project, as it was "no more interesting" than numerous other movie pitches it had received in the past.
Variety's "The Cut Scene" blog reported that a "deal was virtually in place" between publisher Take-Two and a major film studio before talks suddenly fell apart for nebulous reasons. As for the prospect of future films based on the hit franchise, Houser insisted, "It is not something we are currently interested in." We can't say we're disappointed -- films based on games inspired by films make us feel like we're spinning in a very unoriginal washing machine.

That makes sense, since even Rockstar wouldn't unleash the horror of another movie with Emenem as the lead... remember how many people needed military aid after 8 mile was released? I rest my case.
Also: I hear Rockstar Couldn't cut a deal with Uwe Boll to direct, and thier legal department told them to deny involvement.

How is this going to be any different than some "gangsta" movie?

A gangsta movie would have a plot. this would most likely be 2 hours of running around shooting people just to tick off the cops. Haven't you played GTA? jk

Seeing as how there already is a movie called "Grand Theft Auto" way before this first game was even created, a studio should have no problem simply creating a movie about some guy who steals cars. Slap on the name GTA name (which is recycling... remake anyone?) and lawsuit averted.

That movie sucked, if they really want to make this good, they still keep the idea of cars in it, but add a lil bit of the Gone in 60 seconds feel with other gangster movies :)

A lil bit of the godfather, a bit of Scarface, and add a teaspoon of Goodfellas, and there you have it, the perfect movie meal, now just to pay some amazing actors to be in it.

who the hell would want to sit in a theater and watch these video game movies when you could just go play them? i seriously dont get it. i mean movies to video games makes a little more sense but both generally suck across the board anyway.
that said, GTA does have an ok story line at it's core with interesting characters at least. they would probably just base the movie around a group of missions from one person or the like. either way, i would pay $8 to see it (thank you Movieforumz.com!).
