DICE 08: Quirky indie hit 'Juno' to birth a game

During a panel at the D.I.C.E. Summit in Las Vegas, "intellectual-property migration specialist" (they have those?) Keith Boesky said, "People are making a game based on Juno just to cater to the [casual] market." While he didn't specify anything at all about the game, another panelist was Minho Kim – director of operations at free-to-play, microtransaction-driven game pub Nexon America – leading GameSpot to wonder aloud "if it would follow Nexon's free-to-play business model." Just brainstorming here, but the property seems ripe for microtransactions ... just look at all those layers. Jeans and a skirt? Cha-ching!

What's wrong? There's nothing wrong with it at all. It's how the industry works. You make shit you know will sell. And since Juno is a popular movie, the game will make money.

But I really do not understand how it will translate to a video game. Unless it is like Sims style or something.
I hope this isn't meaning Diablo Cody will start selling out. She made one hit movie, I don't want to see her become another Hollywood drone.

On the Wii version, you have to shake the wiimote before your cheeseburger phone will work. Also you will pantomime drinking like 3 whole gallons of Sunny D and then taking the pregnancy test.

I imagine it's a text-based adventure that forces you to decide on some of life's most important issues. Should I pull out? Woops. Should I abort the bastard? Woops. Should I hand the baby over to psycho-crazy nazi mom? Why the hell not.

Jesus christ, I'm not the only one who noticed that. The dialog was more forced than "Garden State" (another faux-hipster piece of crap), and the scene where they name bands and literally show a picture of the band?! Fucking condescending.

You play as the main character who is going to forever be typecast as a goofy high school kid though his late 20s and early 30s who likes to run. You run around, get into goofy high school shenanigans (getting pistol whipped by the captain for saying shenanigans) and ... that's it.

This movie is supposed to translate into a game how? I mean, the movie was fantastic. Very funny and it had those heart-warming moments that were almost too sweet.

Maybe they could make a game that would combine multiple Ellen Page movies. She could get pregnant, then walk through walls and trick the Juggernaut into knocking himself out, and then go find a pedophile and torture him into committing suicide. I'm thinking this is a winner, folks.
