Why does everyone despise Mark Wahlberg so much? He's like the soft-hearted version of Donnie Wahlb--Oh! I get it...

So they're like related and stuff...how 'bout that.

I have nothing against Marky Mark. I've enjoyed his work, and I happen to think he is a really good cast for this role. But it just seems odd that they are making this movie now. Maybe a 3rd MP game will be released to coincide/hype the movie. Hopefully it will be a good game, and not just some quick, thrown together release as most hype games are.

Entourage and Shooter changed my mind about him.

This has the potential to be wicked cool.

Flight of the Phoenix starred Sticky Fingaz who was in a group called Onyx who made a song with the Wu-Tang who in turn made a song with Redman who I like.

I can relate to this story because I can relate to Pop Culture.

They should get Uwe Boll to direct the Max Payne high-on-drugs scenes.
Finally something he could pull off!

I like Mark Wahlberg. It could have something to do with 'Dirk Diggler' or maybe it has something to do with Marky Mark...actually you know what.

I think I like him, because he's actually a pretty damn good actor. Yeah, that's it.

About this movie, it may some redeeming qualities, but I never hold hope for game based movies any longer.

Fucking finally. Max Payne is one of the few games that would actually make sense as a movie. Here's hoping Wahlberg does a good job.

Now the real question is can he handle the metaphor-driven film-noire style that made Max Payne so famous?

Anyone seen "We Own the Night" it was another good recent performance, it seems he's taking on better roles these days, hopefully this one continues the trend.

@Fernando

A scowl is the facial expression Max Payne does in that picture.

It's like frowning with your eyebrows or something. I think it expresses disgust or some dirty satisfaction.

I don't know that his voice is gravelly enough to be the voice of Max Payne. If he eats gravel every day to prepare then I'll shut up, but otherwise color me skeptical. Maybe they could dub his lines ala Darth Vader.

Plus, the original Max Payne was a good movie. Perhaps this has some chance of being good!

MARKY MARK!

lol i dont mind Mark Wahlberg, he's not a bad actor, not great by any means, but he's pretty decent. i never got into the Max Payne thing so im pretty lost on the whole premise of it (besides the slow motion shooting) but i still stand firm on my not paying to go see video game movies, since they are usually just cash ins. dont know if a movie from a game that came out 5 years ago still counts as a cash in or not though lol. if i do watch one it'll either be bootleg, at a friends house, or on HBO or something (which i would be technically paying for). i hope it turns out great but i wont get my hopes up. hey at least Uwe Boll is nowhere is nowhere to be found! maybe it wont be a box office turd after all!

I'll fill you in! When Max Payne wasn't dodging bullets, and stuff, he was narrating his own story. But not normally. He'd go to great lenghts to make sure what he was saying SOUNDED grim. Like, is he was eating serial, he'd say:
"The sugar punched my mouth like a magnum throught a can. I crunched the grains my mouth like a 18 wheeler crushes a basket full of kittens. I cleaned the plate...and it was over..."

Don't you mean He is a good actor? And you don't know what a scowl is? Did you not go to a normal school? Home schooled? And instead stayed inside the house to be this big Nintendo man-child?

May Payne is one of the few games to have the potential to be an incredible movie. Unfortunately, the odds of that actually happening are worse than getting hit by lighting AND winning the lottery on the same day - and doing it all again every thursday for three months.

I'm not very familiar with Mark as an actor, but he sure seems to look the part. I'll give him that.

But all of that is moot though, the real question is: Will he have a sufficiently constipated expression throughout the entire movie, and if not, how do they expect us to take this movie seriously?

So, they are making a movie of a game inspired by noir movies?

Er.. ok.

I loved Max Payne, but it was VERY generic in its setting. Infact, it that was essentially its aim.. to distill the noir genre down into its core elements.

As a game it rocked.. but i don't think theres gonna be enough there to sustain a movie. Its gonna come off like a low rent sin-city.

Why do they always want to make movies of games inspired by movies? (Halo, Doom, GTA, etc...)

I still consider Max Payne 2 one of my favorite games of all time, mostly due to the way the story was presented. We'll see how the movie comes out though. It COULD be good, if done in a Sin City style.
