Its not really exclusives as it just basic fact.

The Wii wasn't made for MMO's...period.

NOw the other stuff you said may be partly true. But hell you "hardcore" gamers gave up on Nintendo a long ass time ago so quit bitching and get over yourselves. Nintendo moved on and is doing fine. When hardcore gamers decided to name Nintendo as the "kiddie" system they basically said, "F*CK Nintendo" and guess what? Nintendo said it right back.

And at the end of the day they're raking in the money so I doubt they care about the very small niche of "hardcore" gamers anymore and frankly I don't blame them.

sony on the toher hand has said "F*CK EVERYONE". As in sony doesn't care about anyone or any consumer IMO. Which is why if htey had said something like this it would just be more of the same.

Plus the fact is that despite its shortcomings in the games dept the machine itself is more powerful than Wii (vast understatement) and would handle an MMO of course.

I agree Sony got too arrogant with the successes of the 1st 2 Playstations, but to say they do not care and to fuck everyone? What kind of sense does that make? Sony just like any company is in business to MAKE MONEY.

Since being humbled I think Sony has done some good things lately. The Playstation Blog where they REALLY do actually listen and respond to comments (does Nintendo have that?) is one, and the constant new IP's that stream from Sony 1st or 2nd party studios are another.

The Wii's bubble will be old and busted and the PS3 will have the games REAL gamers want.

CassilineKnight,

"The Wii wasn't made for MMO's...period."

I'm not a developer myself, but there have been developers that stated that they could make MMO's for the PSP and DS...so, I doubt it is impossible to make one for the Wii...

So this "No MMO" announcement by Nintendo doesn't really seem to be by the shortcommings of the console itself, but by Nintendo NOT REALLY WANTING to make one...

Oh yeah, you're right. We all know that Sony is the company that cares.

Ken, how can you criticize the Nintendo faithful when you blindly follow and spit such tripe for Sony without accepting anyone else’s points of view? You're a hypocrite.

Nintendo has actually struck a very good balance between "hardcore" games and casual franchises.

But hey, you're just trolling so why am I even bothering?

W/e, I'll survive without a MMO Animal Crossing. It'd probably end up like Disney VMK (don't judge, my girlfriend checked it out). That game was so over the top safe I'm pretty sure you couldn't type numbers for fear of giving out your age. Plus, I wouldn't want some random joker coming in and stomping all over my Jacob's Ladders anyway.

Oh fuck this company. I've been defending their bullshit for such a long time now, but I'm sick of it. Not every game has to appeal to everyone. Nintendo should be doing what the fans want -- because they saved Nintendo -- and instead they're shitting on everyone as usual.

It seems there's no room in Nintendo's philosophy for more than one variety of game.

For a company with a great profit emphasis, I think an MMO would be perfect for them. They'd rake in a WHOLE lot of cash.

From what? In-game ads? Microtransactions? Subscriptions? Other stuff Nintendo said they won't do?

If they can't find a way to compensate for the cost of running the servers over an extended period of time, they'll just bleed away cash from the initial sale. The phobia over online creeps is just an excuse.

Good, Nintendo knows its base (i.e. most Nintendo owners probably don't want to waste their life on an MMO).

well no animal crossing MMO, no reason for me to ever consider a wii even if it was handed to me for free. This is why they should be forced to hand over franchises like this to other companies so they can utilize them better.

I liked animal crossing but eventually there was nothing left to do. A MMO version is the only sensible place to take this franchise otherwise we're going to see this franchise end up like harvest moon and be the SAME game over and over and over again.

You wish. Animal Crossing can never be as good as Harvest Moon.

Well, there goes that hope about them actually building a new online infrastructure

Its not going to happen. WiFi Connect will be the rule at least until the next console, and probably beyond that. No communication is fine with some games, but other games simply need it

Ah well, the system's still rolling strong with all kinds of good games, just lack the MMO department :(

If Nintendo won't do it let Nexon the makers of Maple Story do it. I mean come on! They're 2nd party partners already.

I think it has more to do with the fact that Nintendo doesn't want to spend money keeping servers online, when they can make money selling controllers for multiplayer games.

This fits in line with their strategy to sell as many old games as possible on VC, rather than spend money developing new games that actually use the controller that came with the system.

Also, what's this I hear about low dev costs?

Tip for the dense: Nintendo doesn't like to spend money.

Think about it this way, IF Nintendo makes a MMO, it'll be so good that it puts the 3rd party MMOs out of business. Bad long term strategy if you scare away the developers.

Nintendo's being the nice guy to give 3rd party developers a sliver of hope in making it big on a Nintendo console.

Thank goodness for that. MMO's should never be console-ised in the first place.
