Like a complicated puzzle infuriatingly missing the final piece, the mystery over what exactly BioWare and LucasArts are up to after their announced collaboration is impossible to solve. The most obvious rumor is that BioWare's due in 2009 MMO is based on its celebrated Star Wars RPG Knights of the Old Republic. But video game insider (or rumor-mongering charlatan?) Surfer Girl claims that there is an upcoming Star Wars MMO coming in 2009 that's "not being developed by BioWare or Sony Online Entertainment." She says the new MMO is being timed to debut, and will actually tie into, the live-action Star Wars television series planned for next year.
So, if you're the kind of person who believes every rumor they read on the internet (you're not though, right?) then here's the takeaway: BioWare is still working on an MMO, they're still working with LucasArts, but they're not working on this Star Wars MMO. Everyone else: let's just wait it out, okay?

Wait, I'm not getting this...isn't there already a Star Wars MMO, called "Star Wars Galaxies"?
So, there's gonna be 2 of them???
Okay, I guess...

Star Wars Galaxies isn't so much an MMO as it is a blueprint on how to completely drop the ball on an MMO.

I thought Auto Assault held that blueprint title....

There's a difference between dropping the ball and failing like everyone expected you to.

Why pay $1 for an Indiana Jones MMO when you can get the Pirates of the Caribbean MMO for free?

Rumor: Hashbrown_Hunter Has Lost Interest in Star Wars MMO [UPDATE]
Recent reports indicate that long-time PSP Fanboy and Joystiq commenter, Hashbrown_Hunter, has officially "lost interest" in the new Star Wars MMO. The reason? rumor is that he no longer cares because BioWare is not involved with said project.
UPDATE: Confirmed.

It's because they're using HeroEngine that I'm glad they weren't working on a Star Wars MMO, because that engine sucks ass, on account of Simutronics sucking ass.

well, that saves me the subscription fee since I can only see paying monthly for a KotOR MMO.
you almost had me LucasArts, almost.

So does that mean we'll never get a real Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic III? And I mean a REAL sequel, not some ridiculous MMO.

I hope is either a RTS or a Oblivion/Mass effect like RPG.I hate MMO, the other players basically ruin the whole experience. Beggars, Gold farmers, pro l33t, Koreans (I'm not being racist is just that the Korean and Chinese people spend way too much time in MMO's, like Americans with FPS) not to mention those which have no life.
I will stick to the classic me vs the NPCS but online co-op would be nice.

I don't care for this situation with Lucas Arts. I just want Bioware to finish Dragon Age; god that game has been in development for a long time.

Who would be so dumb as to make a Star Wars MMO without BioWare OR Lucas Arts?!

I've missed something. Why do we think BioWare would make a good MMO? Knights of the Old Republic had more glitches and lag than most MMOs and it was single-player. They also can't design a UI to save their life.
The things that BioWare does well are conversations, storytelling and character development. You know, the type of stuff that doesn't really pan out in a multiplayer game.

Umm is this really confirmed? Because Surfer girl doesn't really KNOW anything, she just makes educated guesses.

Yes, but this isn't even a real rumor, since it's just someones guess.
Shenmue 3 is in production but is being developed by someone other than Sega. Now I made a rumor, when will this be posted on joystiq?

While I know I shouldn't dignify that with a response, I'll ignore that inner voice and do so anyways.
If you ran a somewhat widely read and arguably accurate blog dealing in video game rumors and you wrote it there, we'd be more inclined to even consider, not to mention publish, said rumor. Got it?

Yea I got it, I'll start right now making a blog where I lie to people and try to garner enough support so that a normally reputable site like joystiq will spread those lies.

Wait... is Star Wars Galaxies still around? People still play that God awful MMO? I further guess that higher ups refuse to let this Star Wars/MMO idea die.

Why does everyone want Bioware to make this game? There are far more qualified developers for this kind of title, and what has Bioware done? Some excellent RPGs, and since two of them are Star Wars titles, they should make this MMO as well? Your lack of logic disturbs me.

This is a quote from biowares webpage about them making a game together.
" SAN FRANCISCO, CA and EDMONTON, CANADA — October 30, 2007 — LucasArts and BioWare today announced that they have entered into an agreement to create an interactive entertainment product. The product, details of which will be unveiled at a later date, will be developed and published by BioWare and LucasArts, and will push the boundaries of the gaming market by utilizing the strengths of both companies to deliver an innovative, high-quality experience.
“LucasArts has a deep commitment to developing compelling stories and characters for the unique medium of interactive entertainment, and we have been searching for a developer that shares this value. We found this in BioWare,” said Jim Ward, president of LucasArts. “Through our previous collaborations, we know that BioWare has an impressive ability to blend gripping stories with technological advancements, and we believe that our upcoming product will deliver an experience that will span the traditional boundaries of video game entertainment.”
“BioWare’s mission is to deliver the best story and character-driven games in the world, delivering powerful emotional experiences to our fans.” said Ray Muzyka, chief executive officer, BioWare. Added Greg Zeschuk, president of BioWare, “The collaboration with LucasArts allows us to combine our passion for creating high quality and innovative experiences with those of a company dedicated to bringing only the finest games to market. "
Of course it doesnt say that they ARENT making an MMO together, but it doesnt say they are. Even though on the Bioware website, it does list that the MMO they are working on, and the game with lucas are listed seperatly.
