Activision's 2008 promises more Guitar Hero, James Bond, Spider-Man
Activision's recent conference call didn't consist entirely of gloating about those record holiday-quarter sales, as the publisher also took the opportunity to outline some of its plans for 2008. It seems we're in for quite the party, albeit one where you'll actually remember everybody's name. Guitar Hero? James Bond? Tony Hawk? Spider-Man? Yeah, we've met.
According to a Variety report, the aforementioned party will see multiple performances by The Instrument Protagonists, due to promote two Guitar Hero "add-ons" in Spring and a full sequel in Fall. While party animals debate the game tie-ins to animated films Kung Fu Panda and Madagascar 2, suave gentleman will attempt to decrypt James Bond's film adaptation, Quantum of Solace. A roughly equal amount of solace will be found by the comic fans huddled around the punch bowl, as new Spider-Man and Marvel Ultimate Alliance games are expected to knock on the door at some point during the festivities.
Finally, don't expect Tony Hawk to be turned away (he's on the guest list), especially since he's bringing his friend ... uh ... Call of Duty? We honestly don't know where we're going with this analogy.

LICENSING! OM NOM NOM NOM!
Martin @ Feb 8th 2008 7:54AM
Wow, I didn't see this coming at all!
Farseer (GDI) @ Feb 8th 2008 7:55AM
Wow, Activision is making another Guitar Hero, another Call of Duty, and a whole slew of movie-licensed games? I totally didn't see that coming.
mcatrage @ Feb 8th 2008 7:57AM
You need an obvious tag.
Jake11 @ Feb 8th 2008 8:41AM
i have this feeling somewhere in my stomach that the guitar hero franchise will be driven in to the ground...hard
Dopple Boppler @ Feb 8th 2008 8:45AM
The boss battles in Guitar Hero 3 have already paved the way towards that future.
samfish @ Feb 8th 2008 8:56AM
Announcing that like 3 more Guitar Hero games are coming out before the year is up lends to that feeling.
Dr. @ Feb 8th 2008 8:47AM
Well GH3 was certainly a good start.
baby sea tuna @ Feb 8th 2008 9:02AM
I guess once you kill EA, you become EA.
ThornedVenom @ Feb 8th 2008 9:58AM
Who knew that the game industry was like the Flying Dutchman?
fyreblazer @ Feb 8th 2008 11:20AM
[Highlander]There can only be one.[/Highlander]
Mr Khan @ Feb 8th 2008 4:25PM
I guess that is true, it seems to happen to the industry leader every time
Was 1995 Nintendo all that different from 2005 Sony?
borland502 (SDF - Macross Ring) @ Feb 8th 2008 9:02AM
So instead of releasing songs for GHIII like Rock Band, they're creating an expansion for purchase?
GHIII: Rocks your wallet
(5 new songs! $59.99)
DCBlack @ Feb 8th 2008 9:54AM
Those mentioned "add-ons" are probably just song packs. Knowing how long it takes Activision to release any of it, I wouldn't be surprised.
ScottG13 @ Feb 8th 2008 9:03AM
Guitar Hero? Have they realized the fun has moved on to Rock Band? No Thank You to Guitar Hero: Aerosmith.
Also, I'm pretty much done with Activision over the PS3 Guitar Hero 3 incompatibility.
FidliousWong @ Feb 8th 2008 9:49AM
Agreed. I went from wanting to buy Call of Duty 4 on PS3 to waiting until I can buy a used copy thanks to their shitheadedness.
ZaxCG2 @ Feb 8th 2008 10:27AM
Eh? I'm havin' loads of fun playing COD4 on my roomate's PS3... Its not like I'd buy my own paperweight for it though.
GHIII is pretty freakin' crappy compared to the XB360 version though. Dunno if it's his HD TV causin' lag or the poopie controller that doesn't use PS3's bluetooth like it SHOULD.
Saneless @ Feb 8th 2008 12:44PM
I hate hate hate hate HATE Aerosmith.
IF, big if, I buy GH whatever, I will invite a friend over to pass that part of my career.
BlackTye @ Feb 8th 2008 9:41AM
Wow, Activision, this exactly what I wanted!
Oh did I say wanted? I meant expected. Quick! There are franchises still with some life in them.
Zootittles @ Feb 8th 2008 9:51AM
Can we call Activision the "New EA" yet?
DCBlack @ Feb 8th 2008 9:56AM
Well it's no thanks to Activision, but Nyko's Frontman is supposed to be compatible with both when it comes out (in March, I believe).
copa @ Feb 8th 2008 9:58AM
Best.
Avatar.
Ever.
DCBlack @ Feb 8th 2008 10:01AM
:D
Also, the Nyko comment was meant as a reply to ScottG13.
dave @ Feb 8th 2008 9:57AM
I am surprised that Activision isn't milking the Guitar Hero franchise. Remember around Tony Hawk 3 they put out every extreme sport known to man "Kelly Slater Pro Surfer, "Matt Hoffman Pro BMX", and "Shawn Palmer Pro Snowboarder?" I am shocked they have not announced "Harmonica Hero", "Banjo Hero", and "Slide Whistle Hero" yet.
ScottyGEE32 @ Feb 8th 2008 10:23AM
o-o-o-original?
Your ideas/jokes are as unsurprising/unoriginal as Activision making more cod gh spiderman and 007 games
=p
Zootittles @ Feb 8th 2008 12:58PM
I would totally play Slide Whistle Hero.
Actually, maybe I would wait for Harmonix to make Grassroots Jug Band.
ThornedVenom @ Feb 8th 2008 9:59AM
Guitar Hero 4 better have Spiderpig.
JerJerBinks @ Feb 8th 2008 10:19AM
Alternate Headline:
Activision's 2008 promises: we are going dial it in and fleece you for all we can.
ZaxCG2 @ Feb 8th 2008 10:20AM
Awright!!!
...
Same old crap for the win!
But seriously, the only thing I'm excited about is more James Bond.
ScottyGEE32 @ Feb 8th 2008 10:23AM
Guitar hero 3 was kool, but it lost its luster fairly quick for me. I guess I'll just wait and see what they do.
Hopefully Rock band competition really really drives innovation. Since its coming from the makers of Tony Hawk though (that cash cow's tits are dry), I'm not giving it much of a chance.
Hey Apples @ Feb 8th 2008 11:21AM
Meet the new boss... same as the old boss.
Hey Apples @ Feb 8th 2008 11:23AM
Yeah, after the collosal failure which is GH3, I expect many like myself won't get fooled again.
Crazy Vincent @ Feb 8th 2008 12:10PM
"The Instrument Protagonists" is officially the best name ever.
Cennus @ Feb 8th 2008 12:36PM
Another Ultimate Alliance? WIN!
maverick_saturn_626 @ Feb 8th 2008 12:58PM
No more spiderman! I HATE SPIDERMAN after playing those horrid last games :P
DP @ Feb 8th 2008 3:08PM
Ever since RARE left the Bond game it has not been the same.
Neal @ Feb 9th 2008 11:34AM
Guitar hero wont probably sell as much ever since Rock Band came out. Who knows, only time will tell..
D-Train1183 @ Feb 9th 2008 4:52PM
Really stoked for a new Ultimate Alliance. If the new Spider-man game is actually Ultimate Spider-man 2 then I'm buying that too. Other than that Activision will get no money from me. I'm sure Infinity Ward won't be ready for a new release this year, and Guitar Hero is dead to me (Rock Band has obliterated them) so screw 'em. Enjoy making shitty games based off of shitty movies...nevermind they probably will after they rake in more billions.
jamesFF @ Feb 11th 2008 2:03AM
Will you be able to play the James Bond theme on Guitar Hero?
