Cellular game of the year, skate.? Weird. It's so easy to forget that people actually play games on their cell phones that aren't tetris.

I'm just happy that its getting more recognition than Halo 3. Mainly because Halo 3 is garbage just like the first two before it.

Halo is far from garbage. The millions of copies that it has sold and the solid reviews that it got say otherwise. It is not game of the year material, but it is a solid game and a solid franchise.

That being said, Call of Duty 4 is hands down the better game across the board.

@Dan lol totally agreed

I'm sorry but Halo sold well because frankly, ITS HALO. Not because its a good game, but because of the brand. Thats like saying Half Life 3 will sell millions. AMAZING! You mean a strong franchise is going to sell well? Gordon freeman could spend the whole game in a single rooms pissing on the walls to solve physics puzzles and it would be hailed as innovative and amazing. Just cause Halo 3 got near perfect scores doesn't make it a good game. Sure it had some interesting features, etc but lets face it, its a friggen bloom tech demo.

Because you much more prefer killing realistic humans in your games? Because you like trudging along on foot? I found cod4 single player very linear, almost like I was playing house of the dead, but instead of zombies I was fighting humans, the whole thing felt like it was on rails. I did not like multiplayer either. So what I am saying is Halo3>cod4, and we will agree to disagree and call it a day, shall we?

Boo-fuckin-hoo. Halo is a good game. I'm sorry if that upsets both "hardcore FPS fans" and detractors alike, but that doesn't make it untrue. CoD4, however, is a *better* game and deserving of every award and accolade that it garners.

Quality and popularity aren't mutually exclusive, but at least sales numbers are measurable. Yeah, we can get a metareview comparison and see where everyone rates two games, but it really comes down to personal preference sometimes.

For example, I played COD4 for two hours and hated it. I play Halo 3 a few hours a week. Guess what game I'd vote for if those were my only choices (my GOTY is Super Mario Galaxy...).

While I'm a Halo Fanboy, I don't see a point in this flame war as all the shit that you're trying to throw at Halo, can be flinged all the way back at Call of Duty.

Amen.

Half-life 2 story is great and even when Episode 2 ending sucked Portal and Team Fortress make up for that, now is anyone interested in the "With friends like these.." achievement, that's the last TM2 achievement I need.

Halo 3 wasn't bad at all, but certainly wasn't the second coming that M$ promoted it to be.

COD4 deserves all the praise it can get, because it earned it the old fashioned way, and not with cat helmets and yak-piss flavored mountain dew.

I enjoy CoD4 much more than Halo 3, but Halo 3 is far from 'garbage'.

I'm not going to say more, mainly because this argument always regresses into the same BS fanboy drivel every time. I don't know why some people can't accept the fac t there are two good, popular FPS' in the fray.

I think Halo 3 should pick-up an award for something. The game is good, very good, and deserves some recognition.

It is strange that out of The Orange Box, Portal, not even a full game, not dissing it, gets the most praise.

I want an Outstanding Achievement in Achievement Design Award.

For some reason I consider Halo 3 more like an adventure game, mostly for the vehicles.

If you ask me Halo 3 did right what other FPS never could including “Half-life 2”. Good vehicle control, is not perfect but is the best I've seen so far, for example the Dogfights were simply awesome.

Basically Halo 3 improved alot including scenery and it never felt as repetitive as COD4.

COD4 is great but only if you play it on the PC or PS3 in the Xb360 is somehow awful. For example the last veteran mission is impossible because you need a lot of precision something you don’t get with the XB360 controller (Same with Portal, the time challenges are impossible with the XB360 controller).

The story is decent and better than the one in AC, the graphics are good but the only thing that makes COD4 awesome are the visual effects.COD4 is shorter than Halo 3,I played the game in Veteran and while it was extremely hard it doesn’t last long. By the end of Act 2 you have pretty much experienced all what COD4 has to offer.

Now is still a great game but for some reason people Hate halo 3 because all the massive hype while praise COD4 just for not being Halo.

Multiplayer wise both games are full aholes but I loved the way you can customize your character in Cod4 but the Knife melee somehow sucks, in Halo 3 I love the variety of maps and modes but the melee also sucks and for some reason Zombie matches are not playable in Ranked.

Now I’m not the kind of guy that would play Multiplayer more than a month so thanks Infinity guard for not making online obligatory for the achievements. Halo 3 was pretty cool while it lasted,COD4 feels somehow dry still awesome, the voice acting is great and the gameplay (expect for the stupid grenade indicator and XB360 controller) was good but is hardly one of my favorite games.

all i got to say is COD4 is about as realistic as Halo 3 is, and if you say otherwise than you have never to been to actual war, so anyone fooling themselves thinking they are getting actual 'modern combat' is a complete idiot.

I dunno, after watching both Shootout:Battle for Falluja and a bunch of embedded journalist's videos from Afghanistan and Iraq last night, I'm inclined to believe that while not exactly accurate, CoD4 seems to retain the tone of actual modern warfare.

At the very least, like its WWII brother, the game is realistic enough to convince me that war is something I never EVER want to be involved in.

This whole Halo 3 vs Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare battle for supremacy shit is just so played out...

Like seriously you guys whats to argue about? They're both GREAT games in their own freaking ways. To me they represent 2 different styles of gameplay even though they're both in the same genre.

It just comes down to personal preference. I happen to find Halo 3 to more fun overall.

Wow, I actually agree with all of these for once.

Call of Duty 4 certainly deserves a major win because of its tag-team with not just an amazingly sweet multiplayer (both splitscreen/LAN and online matches are great), but a beautiful, AMAZING single player.

Halo 3 was... well. Halo. We've seen it before like ... twice haven't we? Not so innovative with the exception of perfecting online matchmaking and Forge. I laughed when everyone around me with XB360's freaked out about it when it came out, played it for a week... and moved on.

Halo is a good game for multiplayer, and that's as far as it goes. In that capacity, as a console multiplayer game, it's pretty much un-bested. I haven't played CoD4, and i've only scarcely played Bioshock, but they seem well delivered. It's difficult for me to recommend either of these games to a 360 or PC owner before recommending the Orange Box, though.

The fact that platformer games no longer exist and that they have, indeed, been subverted by the "Adventure" title is frightening. What game, in some capacity, couldn't be called an adventure? (aside from puzzle games) If Mario Galaxy isn't mostly about jumping on platforms then I sure as hell don't know where its themes lie. Certainly not in the gripping adventure that is a Mario story.

As for this running argument on Halo 3 vs. CoD4 in terms of multiplayer, I think it best if we leave this up to time. I'm pretty certain that in a year's time Halo 3 will retain a massive fan-base, I'm not sure if I can say the same for CoD4.

In my opinion Halo is a much better game than CoD4. CoD4 really only has one advantage over Halo3, multiplayer maps.
Now i'll admit that CoD4 multiplayer maps are really just sectioned off pieces from the criminally short single player game, but its still enough varity to keep the game fun. However, I dont think more maps justifies saying its a better game, as halo has a better varity of everything else. More varied weapons, vehicles, gametypes, game customization, level editors/creators, 4 player coop with scoring ,and an equally entertaining but longer single player mode all seem to point to Halo being a better game. But each unto their own, right?

Lumping SMG into "Adventure" category means that it would directly compete with Okami and/or Shadow of the Colossus

This is why gaming needs more comprehensive, detailed awards. Congrats to Infinity Ward

The awards do cover a wide variety of concepts, but they're missing a few genres (like Puzzle, Music, platformer, FPS separate), plus they make no mention of excellent offline multiplayer

More comprehensive than i assumed, but still somewhat lacking

I don't get the argument that Halo 3 is just MORE Halo... just like the last two. The same can be said about COD4. What is so great about this game? I own both.. but COD4 lost it's luster much much faster than Halo 3. In fact.. Halo 3 has never lost it's luster for me. I can't put it down. For those of you who complain about the language... you do realize you can mute ANYONE in the game don't you??? My only complaint about the game would be the lack of maps and rotation. Bungie play tests and tweaks this game like a good director would a GREAT movie. COD4 has great visuals... but the campaign does feel linear and like it's on rails. Halo 3's story isn't the greatest.. but I've played through the campaign 5 times already just because the enemy AI is so great. Don't even get me started on the multi-player. Great weapons, vehicles, maps, forge, theater, etc. etc.... this game is way more gratifying for me. I actually feel challenged and that I have to bring my AAA game to every match. COD4 is so boring. No vehicles or varying grenades and objects (gravity lifts, bubble shields, regenerators, power drains), a ranking system that challenges (anyone can rank high in COD4)..... all these factors keep you thinking and planning on your feet. I'm debating on selling my copy of COD4. Maybe I'll wait til UT3 for the 360 or GOW2. COD4 may be the new kid on the block now.. but it will soon be forgotten like it's brothers (COD2 and 3) before it. BORING!!!!

You guys are retards if you think Halo 3 is just more of Halo 2 including the graphics engine. The dynamic lighting alone makes COD4 look like a first gen title. COD4 is just more of COD3 only its downgraded... no vehicles!!! How bout that!! Linear paths... boring enemy AI.... boring level designs... everything on rails.... sorry if you suck at Halo 3 and found yourself an easier game... but Halo 3 is far from more Halo 2. The only reason people hate on it is because it's Microsoft's first born. End of story. COD4 is a fun game... but the longevity belongs to Halo 3.

COD4 is a lot more next gen. It plays better and smoothly and looks better. animation is better - it basically moved on to improve. Campaign was a wicked experience. It was varied, and we got a taste of many war battle styles(except hog noob turrets)

3 yrs in the making, Halo 3 arrives with forge, theatre and assult rifle. gameplay wise? last gen, graphics? halo2 engine on 360 graphics, animation? still robotic. And it STILL UNBALANCED. HOG TURRETS, ghost, shotgun, useless radar with like 10 meter range.

BTW campaign is important and 1 that sets each series apart. Without a doubt, every1 was desperate TO FINISH THE FIGHT after halo2 clifhanger. Without a doubt every1 was excited to see a super epic action finale. lol it turned out it was poorly scripted and rushed. It suddenly became a online multiplyr. I thought they advertised the game as "finish the fight".....
