DICE 08: Microsoft owns Crackdown IP, sequel an 'option'
Despite the dynamic pairing of good sales and majority acclaim for Crackdown, Shane Kim grew cagey when questioned about the status of a sequel at DICE, during an interview with Game|Life. "I don't really want to talk about that discussion," said Kim when asked to comment on reports that Realtime Worlds would not develop a sequel to last year's successful super-cop sandbox shooter. What Kim did clarify is that Microsoft owns the Crackdown IP and is free to pursue development of a sequel with a new studio. "I think that customers would like to see more in that space," Kim vaguely noted, "So that's an option for us."

In an alternate reality somewhere:
DICE 08: EA owns Crackdown IP, sequel 'inevitable'
Zertoss @ Feb 8th 2008 3:58PM
You mean sequelS.
Curtis the Claw Game Master @ Feb 8th 2008 4:03PM
More like Activision these days. They could add it on to that list they just announced of more Guitar Hero, Tony Hawk, Call of Duty, and whatever else.
RolexDPracer @ Feb 8th 2008 3:56PM
Sweet!!! I hope it happens.
NATO_Duke @ Feb 8th 2008 3:59PM
Oh nice - sequel confirmed!
ill trooper @ Feb 8th 2008 4:04PM
I got all the orbs; I deserve a sequel. We all deserve a sequel!
JakubK666 @ Feb 8th 2008 4:58PM
Holy Shit! You can now start finishing CoD4/Halo 3 on Legendary/Veteran without firing a single bullet :)
GRANTED @ Feb 8th 2008 4:05PM
dude's biceps are bigger than his thighceps.
quickshade @ Feb 8th 2008 4:06PM
At least it's a game that deserves a sequel.
kojo87 @ Feb 8th 2008 5:41PM
thank you! some one else like this game! my friend got it simply for the Halo 3 Beta but i played it at his house and i loved it. its like GTA on Crack and HGH. not having an Xbox 360 i have hoped that this game would come to PC. either the sequel or original i just want to play more!
Sam @ Feb 8th 2008 5:48PM
yeah, same here, Crackdown rocked!
maybe more story or...cars? either or.
samekila @ Feb 8th 2008 4:08PM
I hope a new one is made I loved collecting orbs. On a side note if any gamers are interested make this happen

kojo87 @ Feb 8th 2008 5:43PM
why the fuck would we want more Buffy games? i thought that was a petition for Crackdown 2 you ass!
dsub @ Feb 8th 2008 4:10PM
Realtime Worlds is busy working on APB, which basically sounds like a GTA MMO. However, I've been noticing job postings from them all over the internet.
Crackdown 2 would be sweet. There's just so much more room for improvement in a game that was already so much fun. 4-player co-op and a longer campaign and I'm in.
colin @ Feb 8th 2008 5:30PM
i would like some destructable environments (buildings) and more focused missions.
Obie @ Feb 8th 2008 4:14PM
Crackdown was a bit overrated, it would have been completely ignored if it were not for the H3 beta included with it.
Will I pick up Crackdown 2? Sure, if it includes a demo of Call Of Duty 6, or Gears 2 ;)
baby sea tuna @ Feb 8th 2008 4:27PM
I disagree with your assessment of this particular game.
Obie @ Feb 8th 2008 4:29PM
Though I have to say the rooftop orb jumps were pretty damn cool...other then that not much interested me.
Vidikron (FU) @ Feb 8th 2008 4:45PM
No way would it have been completely ignored. The game is very good. I bought it because I wanted the game, I didn't give a crap about the H3 beta (which I only even played once).
Dale @ Feb 8th 2008 5:11PM
Incorrect. I have less than zero interest in Halo effing 3 and Crackdown was the first game I *had* to get for the Xbox 360... in fact, it swayed my decision to stop waiting for the Wii.
nick @ Feb 8th 2008 5:23PM
I'm probably in the minority, but I enjoyed Crackdown far more than I enjoyed Halo 3. In fact, I really didn't care that Halo beta was included. Crackdown was such a great game if you played through the entire story, and was even more fun when played with friends.
It really does deserve a sequel.
NATO_Duke @ Feb 8th 2008 5:21PM
I think the game was more than a bit UNDERrated becasue it had the Halo 3 beta atached to it. It was very fun and mindless.
THE WICKER MAN (BWF) (GT: Dalek Prime) @ Feb 8th 2008 5:37PM
Halo 3 blows my agents nightstick. Crackdown was freaking great. I love comics and besides Incredible Hulk on Ps2 and assassins creed this game delivered on the heroics. The game was pure FUN. The achievements were fun as well. The music was great and the only thing a sequel needs is supervillians and a good hand to hand combat system for epic city wide fights!
NATO_Duke @ Feb 8th 2008 6:01PM
Oh, and the voice-over work was awesome.
Obie @ Feb 8th 2008 7:28PM
"Oh, and the voice-over work was awesome"
Are you kidding me?
nice jump agent!
nice jump agent!
nice jump agent!
Gimme a break, it was horribly repetitive!
THE WICKER MAN (BWF) (GT: Dalek Prime) @ Feb 8th 2008 11:17PM
"Skills for kills agent."-video game qoute of the year.(after all the portal qoutes that is ;)
Ryan @ Feb 9th 2008 4:23PM
OVERRATED? Are you freaking kidding me? This game is easily one of the most UNDERRATED games out there and easily a top 3 overall game on the 360.
I would much rather have a sequel to this than another sequel to Halo or Call of Duty. Hell, I would wipe all memories of Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 I had and have those games removed from existence if it meant we could get a sequel to Crackdown. Pretty much the only sequel to any game (on any platform) that I want over Crackdown is Gears 2.
Shimrra @ Feb 8th 2008 4:16PM
I was hoping for a sequel the game was fun and all I can say is make the surrounding more interactive like demolition buildings have a better aiming system and maybe some flying vehicles.
Kizzle @ Feb 8th 2008 4:23PM
Easily one of the top 5 360 games of last year. I want a sequel, but I'd rather they didn't just give it to some random studio...
Bought it for the Halo 3 beta, but wound up liking Crackdown a lot more.
bigsofty @ Feb 8th 2008 4:23PM
Game sucked ass, lets hope it dies off...
NATO_Duke @ Feb 8th 2008 5:37PM
You know the same will likely be said of you now right?
THE WICKER MAN (BWF) (GT: Dalek Prime) @ Feb 8th 2008 5:40PM
Here Nato let me help you...
bigsofty sucked ass, lets hope he dies off...
THE WICKER MAN (BWF) (GT: Dalek Prime) @ Feb 8th 2008 5:43PM
You think Assassins Creed, Crackdown, and Super Smash Bros. "sucks ass" but you think just cause 2 will be good? Go back to Bizzaro world please.
Debikul @ Feb 8th 2008 5:58PM
Kinda like your comment eh?
fred @ Feb 8th 2008 7:06PM
Looking at your previous comments... you like thinking about ass sucking a lot don't you?
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Feb 8th 2008 4:56PM
Crackdown was a damn good game. Hopefully a sequel will be in the works.
Cyro @ Feb 8th 2008 5:18PM
I second that.
Mr.ESC @ Feb 8th 2008 5:55PM
That game had a lot of potential but it was too short and seriously collecting orbs was just plain boring, the street racer thing could've been good but it was meh and it felt cheap but at least it gave you something to do.
The "Keys of the city" mode was amazingly fun too bad you couldn't earn achievements, I wouldn't mind collecting orbs in that mode.
Mr.ESC @ Feb 8th 2008 5:57PM
What I was trying to say is that I would also love a sequel.
Dirt @ Feb 8th 2008 5:00PM
One of the most amazing games made.
PLEASE make a sequel! Just make it a bit longer, please!
deaftly @ Feb 8th 2008 5:38PM
Crackdown was literally the crack of video games, I could not stop playing it. Heres to hoping for a sequel.
Zeus.:God @ Feb 8th 2008 5:42PM
I absolutely adore Crackdown... I may have to repurchase the original (traded it for DiRT).
Mr.ESC @ Feb 8th 2008 5:49PM
Crackdown at the end wasn’t a bad game and it was more enjoyable than AC even when AC suppose to be better.
I think Crackdown has potential to be a super special awesome game for example they could make vehicles useful this time or better yet copy/paste Pursuit Force elements.
They could also add more gangs,a story mode and for the love of good improve online co-op, local co-op wouldn’t hurt either.
Mr.ESC @ Feb 8th 2008 5:52PM
By the way improve the music,Crackdown had an awful music selection.
Arno @ Feb 8th 2008 6:54PM
That'd be awesome. Hey, I didn't buy Crackdown for the Halo 3 beta. Played the shit out of that game.
maverick_saturn_626 @ Feb 8th 2008 7:21PM
Crackdown ftw ^^
Spartacus @ Feb 8th 2008 8:38PM
I'm hoping MS hands this project to Bungie ;-)
ron1587 @ Feb 8th 2008 11:09PM
Still the best open world game for 360 IMO. Hope they bring back the announcer guy, and add some choppers!
