EA's Facebreaker trailer makes its debut, lacks gameplay
We've been entranced with EA's Facebreaker since they announced it a little over a week ago. With its lighthearted attitude and Fight Night Round 3 meets Team Fortress 2 visuals, we can't help but hearken back to long summer nights spent playing Ready 2 Rumble Boxing on the Dreamcast. However, we shouldn't get our hopes up without knowing anything about the gameplay, which, unfortunately, this "world premier" from GameTrailers doesn't really shed much light on. I guess we'll have to wait until the game is fully detailed in the March issue of EGM before we'll know if we can ever relive our Days of Afro Thunder.

I'm actually interested in this game, if Mike Tyson is the final boss I'm pre-ordering this right now.
Bslashingu @ Feb 9th 2008 2:13PM
The art style is awesome.
Schoon @ Feb 10th 2008 12:52PM
Team Fortress 2, anyone?
Odog4ever @ Feb 11th 2008 2:47PM
Ready to Rumble boxing anyone?
I owned Ready to Rumble 2 on PS1 so I'm ok with a next-gen, spiritual successor.
Fernando Rocker @ Feb 9th 2008 2:22PM
Cool...
Now I want a new Punch Out =(
Brucie B @ Feb 9th 2008 2:27PM
Looks Awesome....
but, EA hmmmm....
kbomb1upc @ Feb 11th 2008 10:38AM
Lets not forget EA can make great games... But the problems comes in when they continue to milk that game until its life less and dead.
Cameron @ Feb 9th 2008 2:38PM
"Well Valve redid their game with cartoon graphics, maybe we should try it?"
"GENIUS IDEA!"
FidliousWong @ Feb 9th 2008 3:19PM
Yeah, I know... it's not like Team Fortress 2 drew inspiration from The Incredibles or anything (clue: they did). Or The Incredibles drew inspiration from Art Deco movement or anything (hint: They did).
Look, everything rips off everything else. period. And often the people you applaud as being so creative and unique are most often prime offenders. So get off the "X ripped off Y" bandwagon before you hurt yourself.
Grimmus @ Feb 9th 2008 4:24PM
Looks like Fidli needs to get off the "masturbate to your own false sense of self-righteousness" bandwagon.
ThornedVenom @ Feb 9th 2008 8:57PM
I'm glad Fidlious is on the same brainwave as I.
It's all about how popular an idea gets. But I think that imitation is a necessary factor for innovation.
Burnt Meatloaf @ Feb 9th 2008 11:03PM
Good! I'm tired of dark scenes and brown hues.
There's other uses for pixel shaders than rendering strategic gashes on laughably bulky body armor.
FidliousWong @ Feb 10th 2008 12:39AM
Also, some people here forget, I'm not the beggest fan of realism in my graphics. If TF2 caused a resurgance of cartoonish graphics, good. I love it, I want to see more of it. Hell, if you guys saw some game concept sketches of mine from a few years ago... you'd see what I mean. Or you'd be asking why that game was never made.. to which I'd respond "Because I'm working on something easier right now and once we get our own custom engine up and running, THEN we can look into doing the game in question."
Brello @ Feb 9th 2008 3:16PM
Nice to see more games focused on fun rather than realism. I like fun!
phalange @ Feb 9th 2008 3:24PM
Is this really by the developers of Fight Night Round 3? I thought they were dissolved away when they closed EA Chicago. Maybe they're just claiming that since it was made by "EA".
Batzarro @ Feb 9th 2008 6:09PM
It reminds me of Reasy to Rumble and Outlaw (sport). Also, more regueton.
Grizzly @ Feb 9th 2008 7:25PM
FNR3 is excellent so I'd be very interested in this!
WLT @ Feb 10th 2008 10:50AM
If it's even close to as good as Ready 2 Rumble, I'm buying it. Maybe they can get Michael Jackson as a playable character?
Shiba @ Feb 10th 2008 11:55AM
Sure does make me want to play Ready 2 Rumble again. Me and my friends play FNR3 all the time. Excellent game to play while drinking/smoking. (Maybe only topped by super monkey ball or mario kart?)
Jeff @ Feb 10th 2008 12:00PM
Not to hop on the "they're ripping off Team Fortress 2" wagon, but is it just me, or does that lineup of characters look suspiciously like TF2? Don't get me wrong, the game looks to be good, but nevertheless...

Hey EA, um let me get this straight. FN:R3 was basically the best sports sim you've released in about 10 years. But because the sales of it and Def Jam ICON didn't "meet expectations", you decide to kill off both franchises, close the studio, and fire the people that made them. Then you decide to make a cartoon boxing game instead, and credit the Fight Night people with its creation... despite the fact that you just fired them. I guess you're defining 'people that brought you Fight Night' as Electronic Arts the company.
I guess what I'm saying to you EA is this: What exactly makes you think that a cartoon boxing game that *might* turn out good will sell better than Fight Night, a series that was better and more critically acclaimed than virtually everything else you've ever made? (and didn't sell well enough to be deemed a success)
the_omses @ Feb 12th 2008 9:24AM
No most of the team moved as well.
Harbinger @ Feb 10th 2008 5:04PM
No, they did not. The vast majority of the original FNR3 team was at EA Chicago when it closed. Most of those people no longer work for EA at all. I was surprised to see EA claim this was from the original FNR3 developers too. Pretty funny.
the_omses @ Feb 12th 2008 9:24AM
The Fight Night Team was moved to Vancouver BC.
Sintax @ Feb 9th 2008 5:42PM
the team didn't move the game just moved.
bdog @ Feb 12th 2008 12:55PM
No thanks, i'll pass on this and wait for Prizefighter from 2K.
