Japanese hardware sales, Jan. 28 - Feb. 3: The unremarkable return
It returns to a strange new world, one where the PSP has managed to best the DS Lite (again) and, perhaps more disturbingly, where glorified spread sheets become personified and go on vacation. We used to be able to make sense of all this. Perhaps you could be kind enough to leave some suggestions in the comments? Tell us how you'd like us to improve this weekly feature, be it through moar statz or fewer words.

You are a SAD person for investing your time into something like that. Or thinking the way you do by insulting people for WHAT they are.

This weeks was really diverse in sales though.
Only two Wii games and 1 DS game. 3 ps3 games, 1 psp game, 2 ps2 games and even an ecksbawks game.

I can't read Japanese, but I do have decent pattern recognition. The 360 game is the same as one of the PS3 games, which I can only assume is Devil May Cry 4.

Wii Fit & Brawl have done wonders for the Wii's Japan numbers. Was this a surprise? Good to see PSP do well, helps dispel the growing belief that it's a dead platform (you might not see that belief around here much, but on other sites its almost recognized as fact)

My estimated is that it will be at 1.5 million in Japan when Brawl is released here in the USA.
4 million in USA and Japan combined when the game is released in EU.

Speak of the Satin! This morning I was wondering about the JapSales and where they went. I thought maybe they wanted to stop reminding people that xbox is getting killed over there - it'd discourage holiday sales and stuff.
I'm glad its back. Since I dont really care about JapSales, they are still totally game related and it is easier to just enjoy the writing without being distracted by the substance. So moar words, more experiments.

I can explain the psp outselling the ds. It's a well known fact the everyone in Japan owns at least 5 ds lites each. Then they thought wow people other than Nintendo make games get me in on that. Thus the psp sold more.

Fernando, I think you had said you had a PS1 and PS2 and enjoyed them very much. Now I can understand how you got put off by the PS3, I am as well. But do you have to bash on Sony this much? They did good before and now you act like they are the anti-Christ. I wouldn't want them to go out of business, I'd like them to learn their mistakes and go back to the greatness that was the PS1/PS2.
Nintendo did the same after the N64 did relatively not as well as their first two consoles and they bounced back and HOW!
I liked Sony's consoles because they have had huge libraries of games, and were extremely varied as well, from first person shooters to Japanese RPGs to dating/train simulators.
I hope you can learn next time Sony, don't be so arrogant! I still love your PSP!
