Weekly Webcomic Wrapup wins an award*
* Sort of. First, we were told Joystiq was listed in Gaming Steve's top 10 video game humor sites. "Awesome," we said and clicked on the site. Then we found out it was just for the Weekly Webcomic Wrapup. "It's not that funny at all," said Ludwig, pointing to his popular Japanese hardware sales feature (now back on vacation). Then we did the unthinkable and read beyond the headline. Our kudos? For compiling other people's humor into a list.
Whatever, it's an honor. And with that in mind, here are our picks for the week's best game-related webcomic:
- No more potty training (MNC)**
- A quick route up the ladder (RPG-TV)
- Serious business (Gamer PALs)
- We are only trying to help (Penny Arcade)
- Wrong man for the job (2P Start)
- Represent (Digital Unrest)
- Gold farmer alert (Extra Life)
- The Minus World (Dueling Analogs)
** Note: We should've used the title "The Legend Never Dies" but the head tag was wrong. Still, the linked comic, the game-related one, is what we're offering for vote.

Metapod really should have used harden. That would've got their attention.
ThornedVenom @ Feb 9th 2008 9:10PM
Metapods don't harden the way humans do.
DBuck_Eye @ Feb 9th 2008 7:47PM
What exactly are "wave dashing" and "L cancelling?"
Shimrra @ Feb 9th 2008 7:48PM
LOL thats what I was just thinking.
Neebs @ Feb 9th 2008 8:05PM
Exploits in SSBM, removed in SSBB according to reports. L-cancelling allowed you to perform a move but cut the animation short. Wave dashing was a way to move around quickly, but really it was useless.
I voted for Gamer PALs, by the way.
Mr Khan @ Feb 9th 2008 8:07PM
Two tricks apparently used by the Smash Bros elite (i never quite got the hang of them myself), Wave dashing utilized somewhat of a physics glitch to increase your speed. L Cancelling cancels attacks.
Ryura @ Feb 9th 2008 9:52PM
Haha, Wave dashing was useless? Wavedashing was the best mindgame technique ever.
gst @ Feb 10th 2008 6:49PM
I'm amazed that so few people know those techs. I figured most people had seen them done at least once.
And what idiot went and called them useless!? You're kidding right?
It is next to impossible to play at a high level without those techs...well, I mean you can play but it won't be fun.
Note: I'm speaking as someone who has always hated the pedantics of advanced techs. I'm glad they are gone...and will likely be replaced with some other way to capitalize on slight framerate delays.
FidliousWong @ Feb 9th 2008 7:51PM
I... I voted PA as much as it pains me...
Bitches love Sandskit...
Shimrra @ Feb 9th 2008 7:52PM
The Penny Arcade and Dueling Analogs are funny.
superted @ Feb 9th 2008 7:53PM
needs some zero punctuation on here :)
capt_carl @ Feb 9th 2008 7:55PM
2P Start for me. Penny Arcade was funny as hell though.
Neebs @ Feb 9th 2008 8:01PM
It's a shame they didn't miss the always new and exciting antics in the comment threads.
Neebs @ Feb 9th 2008 8:05PM
missed*, bloody hell I am the typo king.
ClarkyCat @ Feb 10th 2008 9:42AM
Are you sure "didn't missed" sounds better?
Mr Khan @ Feb 9th 2008 8:09PM
A tough week to choose. Digital Unrest (as always) was good, so was MNC, DA, and Gamer PALs
I picked MNC, just because i'm in a Star Wars mood today(just finished a few missions on Rogue Leader)
cristian @ Feb 9th 2008 8:42PM
"It's not that funny at all," said Ludwig, pointing to his popular Japanese hardware sales feature
LOL!
Mr.ESC @ Feb 9th 2008 9:01PM
I voted for MNC,both the "soul calibur IV" and "no more heroes" parodies were funny.
I would really like to see Kirk in Sould calibur.
Donald @ Feb 9th 2008 9:01PM
Noooooo... Metapod...
ThornedVenom @ Feb 9th 2008 9:13PM
Excellent comic week! I loved every single one of them, for once, so it was a hard choice. =)
I chose Captain Kirk because it's hard finding a plausible awesome choice to pwn to Vader and Yoda (as everyone knows that Chuck Norris, Mr. T and Technoviking have too much awesome to be contained on a game disc, even on Blu-ray).
RPG-TV did great, and N-Europe almost got my vote.
MNC Dover @ Feb 9th 2008 9:23PM
MNC on the poll! The link to "No More Potty Training" should be this:
http://www.mondaynightcrew.com/issues/comic_0030.html
Looks like Kirk pulled a Kobayashi maru on the poll. Regardless, it's nice to see that we are getting some good feedback. Thanks!
XGM @ Feb 9th 2008 10:15PM
Wow this week is solid, i just cant decide who to vote on. Too bad i cant vote them all :P
Monge161 @ Feb 9th 2008 11:49PM

refinedsugar @ Feb 10th 2008 12:03AM
Creaming your pants over getting an award and recognition from Gaming Steve? Time to cut back on the nose candy, kids.
Jonah Falcon @ Feb 10th 2008 12:11AM
20 minutes.
Out front.
Puffer fish.
Antonio @ Feb 10th 2008 12:52AM
It's a pretty piss-poor selection this week IMO.
Special_K @ Feb 10th 2008 1:02AM
In the PA comic, he's not speaking Sanskrit, he's speaking Hindi. Sanskrit is to Hindi as Latin is to Italian (almost exactly, actually.) And he's not actually saying a pickup line, he's just saying someone's name.
EMaster @ Feb 10th 2008 1:33AM
Since when are comics or anything amusing supposed to be accurate? The fact is irrelevant to the punchline it's trying to bring across. Not that there was one in any of these comics this week anyway.
Special_K @ Feb 10th 2008 11:18AM
Well, I still found it funny, just not as funny and layered as Tycho could have made it. Consider: the Kama Sutra was written in Sanskrit.
Comics don't to be accurate? Of course! Shouldn't be accurate? Definitely not! Consider: when the Simpsons writers wrote the episode where Homer climbs the Murderhorn (I believe the name of the ep. is King of the Hill) they phoned various experts in order to get proper Sherpa dialogue for Homer's Sherpas. Who cares? Linguists like me! It makes me feel good that some writers are willing to go that extra mile to get 'la mot juste'.
Mr Khan @ Feb 10th 2008 1:19PM
Agree. I am sometimes annoyed by inaccurate writing, and prefer when writers really work out all the details
Like the Libyans in Back to the Future, DVD commentary says they spoke gibberish, not Arabic, a sad disappointment for a movie which is so great (one of my favorites), and usually so attentive to detail
It really doesn't matter, but it's always appreciated
mr nimblewick @ Feb 10th 2008 8:38PM
So... why did these people name their language after a font?
EMaster @ Feb 10th 2008 11:27PM
Dude I know how you feel about inaccuracies but you can;t expect everyone to do their homework. I used to think that too when the fine folks at Joystiq and X3F can't say "Unterhaltungs Selbst Kontrolle" properly in their respective podcasts but I have to keep in mind that these people are not German and I am thus I know how to say it properly and they don't. I can;t expect them to take lessons or repeat the words over and over again to the point where they sound like they "have done their homework". I am not the kind of person that demands this from people as I understand that some of this stuff is harder for others than it is for me or you. But again, the comedic factor is still there for the general audience and people get the idea.
As for movies I actually find it more funny for them to speak Mock German than real German cause it's a lot more amusing.
EMaster @ Feb 10th 2008 1:31AM
All of these suck and don't even make me snicker! This weeks wrap up should have been canceled.
eldee @ Feb 10th 2008 10:33AM
or you could just... not read them.
I know there was a disturbing lack of "Cake" and "Lie" in this weeks selection, but most of the interwebs have decided to move on to new jokes. Don't worry, a new meme will emerge for you to latch onto soon enough, I'm sure.
Richard @ Feb 10th 2008 1:29PM
Yeah, 'cause that makes total sense, for someone to avoid reading the comics for a week based on the fact that they didn't like any of the ones that week. And I like how you just went and assumed his reasoning was due to a lack of Portal-related comics, as if there was, y'know, any grounds for that whatsoever.
EMaster @ Feb 10th 2008 11:21PM
Guys I never even played portal yet (no time to) so I don't get these references at all until I play it. I have to read the comics to know if they are not funny unless u want me to be like the fine people at fox news. I read them anyway because I hope the next week they are better.
whiny bitch @ Feb 10th 2008 4:28AM
I HIGHLY OBJECT TO TEH SELECTION OF COMICS THI--...
Bitches love sanskrit.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Feb 10th 2008 10:18AM
Yeah, PA was the only one that made me laugh, just because it was so prescient to the latest news at hand.
scottfrenz @ Feb 10th 2008 12:38PM
Between Penny Arcade and Extra Life for me.....
Anni @ Feb 10th 2008 1:53PM
I wonder if Monday Night Crew realizes how much better the comic would have been without the bottom panel. I would have voted for it immediately if I hadn't scrolled down slightly.
Brychanus @ Feb 10th 2008 2:02PM
Wow, that's a really offensive stereotyped Chinese accent in Extra Life. Looks like they couldn't decide between bad typed English and a phone conversation.
Stinkerbelle @ Feb 10th 2008 2:28PM
How is it that Bargain Bin Heroes was overlooked? It's a great - nay, epic - MMO comic, and it didn't get nominated.
It's a great comic with a unique style (and I'm not just saying that because I blog for WanderingGoblin.com ;)
Check it out at http://www.wanderinggoblin.com/literaturedetail.php?id=83
FidliousWong @ Feb 10th 2008 12:34AM
Wow, that was epic phail.... That was sadness colored purple.... That had a high drop rate of suckage.... that had a DPS in the negatives....
You see where I'm going with this, right?
Imadogg @ Feb 11th 2008 7:34AM
Dueling Analogs. Haha look at Mario. Shoulda had another box with Ron Jeremy smiling at how he's not affected by being in the minus world.
Martez @ Feb 11th 2008 12:01PM
Crash Bandicoot FTW.
Stinkerbelle @ Feb 11th 2008 12:11PM
Yeah, but based on all your posts, you're a bit narcissistic and never say anything constructive about
anything. So, it's hard for me to take you for real.
BrennaCeDria @ Feb 11th 2008 8:54PM
"Note: We should've used the title "The Legend Never Dies" but the head tag was wrong. Still, the linked comic, the game-related one, is what we're offering for vote."
Um... "No More Potty Training" is a game related comic--one that I was actually surprised wasn't in last week's poll.
obo @ Feb 13th 2008 8:42PM
A nomination for the next wrapup: Lucid TV, "Emotion Hero"
