Hot on the heels of the mandatory installation controversy surrounding the PS3 version of Devil May Cry 4, comes word that the PSP title Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G will also feature an installation option. The installation will give players the chance to move the UMD's contents to the PSP's memory card, in order to decrease load times for the newest notch in the Japanese adventure series.
Along with this news comes obvious concerns that the pre-installation process may become a new standard in games, ending the good old feeling of buying a console or portable title and being able to just play it. We can't confirm yet whether the installation for 2nd G is mandatory, or whether it's presented as an alternative to load times. We're hoping for the latter. The game is due out in Japan in March 2008.

I wish all my PSP games had optional installs to cut down loading time. I have several games that I'd probably play through again if not for all the damned loading.

Me too.
In fact I like this option, more PSP games should use it.
The first MHF was awesome but the damn loading times made it unplayable.

I don't care if it's optional, nothing wrong with it. I do have a problem with it when it's forced and can eat up HDD space. It can add up.

I think its a cool idea. Short load times are good in my book. =D

Short load times should have been standard, not a FIX!
As well, when you have to go through all these steps to play a video game (even if they're short) it takes away from the fun and spontaneity of playing video games. I know most kids here didn't live through this, but there was a time when a person just popped in a game, pressed power, and started playing. Now, it's all that much more complicated, problematic, and the games really aren't any more fun/interesting than they were in the past, they're just newer and prettier--at a very high expense.

It's time everyone just accept that this generation of consoles doesn't have one big loser.
