Buggy Lost Planet demo pulled from PSN, new demo coming soon
Last week's PSN update brought us the demo of Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, but numerous glitches and user complaints have forced Capcom to pull the demo from the Playstation Network, promising to return it once the problems have been solved.Posting on the official Playstation.Blog, a Capcom representative states that the fixed version will "accurately reflect" the game's online features. The servers for the demo have been also been shut down temporarily, so anyone who has already downloaded the demo will find themselves unable to log on to play. The Capcom rep promises that the team is working hard to deliver the update as soon as possible.
Though removing content for bug-fixes is a tad more unorthodox than simply releasing an update, we assume the issues with the Lost Planet demo were severe enough to warrant its removal, and we're all for whatever gets that content as clean and optimized as possible.

Please make that picture so we can print them and put them on our games. I would love to have that spoof on my 360 version of the game. Cover art is good.
Jeramy @ Feb 11th 2008 11:52AM
that's probably my favorite from the photoshop contest. just wonderful.
Co @ Feb 11th 2008 1:36PM
They just need to go ahead and make that the PS3 cover art.
paragraph @ Feb 11th 2008 11:52AM
Problem: It's not an Xbox...
-_-
Oh Capcom, why did you cop out... were sales on your mediocre shooter so bad you wanted to try your luck on the PS3? Can I expect a DS Port too?
:\
But really, i'm not suprised, most PS3 games play like ass anyways ;)
In all seriousness, this is devistating to all three people who were waiting on this...
Ok, really, it's horrible... it's an outrage...
maverick_saturn_626 @ Feb 11th 2008 3:27PM
Correction, most crappy untended to and given little attention ports play like crap, the ones that actually make it out can often be a vast amount of fun.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Feb 11th 2008 11:52AM
I freaking love that box art.
aaron_k7 @ Feb 11th 2008 12:03PM
Wow, and yet no one cares how you "freaking" feel.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Feb 11th 2008 12:12PM
Apparently, you do, because you took the time to respond. If nobody really cared, they'd have just ignored the statement.
Way to be a dumb douche.
aaron_k7 @ Feb 11th 2008 12:25PM
I freaking love your comments.
THE WICKER MAN (BWF) (GT: Dalek Prime) @ Feb 11th 2008 12:25PM
The past few days have seen an influx of new commentors being total arseholes and making mean spirited and pointless comments to others. I say to you, "Shut up".
jimwack @ Feb 11th 2008 12:30PM
Indeed, it was an completely unprovoked aggressive action. He probably just wanted to feel better about himself by insulting someone else.
aaron_k7 @ Feb 11th 2008 12:39PM
Fellas, fellas...please look one comment below for an unprovoked attack as you call it. You can also feel free to note the nifty time stamps.
jimwack @ Feb 11th 2008 12:52PM
I bit of a quandary here, it is apparent crono went first, but then again, claiming a game that sucked, "purely based on the person who played but" even though it is apparent several critics actually enjoyed it could be seen as a lie. Which I myself am not fond of people who lie.
I will just wait and see how this goes then.
psychoticdream @ Feb 11th 2008 12:51PM
it shows
aaron_k7 @ Feb 11th 2008 11:55AM
I heard that the biggest bug in the demo was that it was too much like the crappy game itself...can anyone confirm?
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Feb 11th 2008 11:56AM
And I heard a rumor that you were an idiot.
Is there any truth to that?
paragraph @ Feb 11th 2008 11:59AM
The game wasn't crappy... but it wasn't great....
it was... ok...
jimwack @ Feb 11th 2008 12:38PM
@crono
I believe he has shown us this is true. Since I see this game was actually well liked by many people.
He probably is an example of people who hate things because it's cool.
aaron_k7 @ Feb 11th 2008 12:42PM
Yes, I do hate things because it's cool.
idiot @ Feb 11th 2008 11:55AM
I thought demos were supposed to make you WANT the game.
Sadly, this did the opposite.
It sux
Kevin @ Feb 11th 2008 12:01PM
I just came here to salute whoever it was that came up with that boxart. Lawl!
BananaPoo @ Feb 11th 2008 12:10PM
If they can't get a demo to work it does not make me confident in there final product...
Cyro @ Feb 11th 2008 12:18PM
lol! Well This game was awesome on the 360. Too bad you guys are getting cheap ass port.
Mr.ESC @ Feb 11th 2008 12:17PM
Hey is Frank west playable in the PS3 version? That would be both awesome and awkward.
jimwack @ Feb 11th 2008 12:29PM
I'm waiting for someone to say something like "O that game sucked, thats why they had technical problems" or "Who cares if that game had technical problems, it sucked".
Apparently, any game with a perfect 10 is immune to having programming errors. "Orange box?"
What I am trying to say is, technical problems, such as a games engine not running right, and a game not being fun are two entirely different things. By the logic ever game that was ever truly great had a team of great coders. I for one know that is total bullsh!t.
Here is a hypothetical example, lets take the worlds best "programmer", there is nothing this guy can't code, now make him work with the worlds worst game planer. He wants to make a game where you go around throwing dung at sheep so they will go to sleep. I bet to you that dung throwing system will be the best the world will ever see, just know one would ever want to actually try it.
I've played great buggy games before, and I've played stable but sh!t games before. By the logic of great games automatically must have had great programmers, the teams that made Guitar hero and DDR must have been gods. Even though those games are just you pushing the button when it gets to the line, and anyone can make a flash game version of it.....
Not to mention games like Turok and lost planet didn't suck, according to meta critic, they where ok to actually good.
Further more, how do we know the skills of the people working on these games. Why is it so hard to accept that console is causing trouble. Several people have stated the ps3 was hard to program for.
Rususeruru @ Feb 11th 2008 12:43PM
just no one would ever want to actually try it.
And you're incorrect sir, I would play a game where I could throw poo at sheep. Just think of the interesting conversations it would start. "Why are you throwing poo at sheep?" It's entertaining. "Is it the sheep's poo?" *pauses game and looks at other person* You know, I never stopped to consider that...
jimwack @ Feb 11th 2008 12:57PM
Indeed, it would be a great conversation starter.
Farseer (GDI) @ Feb 11th 2008 12:57PM
I too would gladly play a game where you flug poo at sheep. Just think of the Wii port! Poo-flinging waggle action FTW!
In fact, one could take the poo-flinging engine and apply it to a whole slew of poo-flinging mini-games. You could play a monkey in a zoo, flinging poo at the middle schoolers taunting you. Extra points for getting it in their mouthes... that sort of thing.
Kite @ Feb 11th 2008 1:20PM
Thank you for your comment. Really :D
Corren @ Feb 11th 2008 1:36PM
Sheep+dung flinging = Black and White, which I for one, loved. Perhaps it was because you could fling sheep at dung if you wanted to mix things up -- a very diverse flinging experience, all in all.
jimmygotsmack @ Feb 11th 2008 1:53PM
O my..... :)
I remember setting poo on fire at throwing tossing it at the others god temple, didn't really do a whole lot, but would annoy who ever you where playing against.
In anycase, it would still put alot of people off.
kbomb1upc @ Feb 11th 2008 12:35PM
Why do they insist on giving PS3 owners crappy versions of their games as if we don't enjoy good games? COD4 and Assassins Creed should have let everyone know that if you make a good multiplatform game, PS3 owners will buy it. I really wanted to play this game since I never had a 360 and the demo I played of it at GameStop (on the 360) was very good. But this is very disappointing. For you developers’ out there "If you’re not going to do it right, don't do it at all."....(stares at EA)
Leobebes @ Feb 11th 2008 12:54PM
It's not that the PS3 gets crappy ports. It's just the unnecessary proprietary architecture that Sony decided to give it's PS3. Why reinvent the wheel? Also please don't tell me the PS3 has this magical untapped potential that only mages and sorcerers have seen. To anyone with an IQ over 90 in the gaming industry will tell you there is no untapped potential.
kbomb1upc @ Feb 11th 2008 1:10PM
@Leobebes
The PS3 architecture is different not crappy. Its been proven by many of developers’ that they can produce a great multiplatform on the PS3..COD4, Assassins Creed, DMC4, Burnout and Dirt. So don't try and act like it’s only the PS3 that is the problem. Developers’ may have to work harder on the PS3 but only because the architecture is different than what they are use to. If you call yourself a real gamer you know that the games that are released at the beginning of a consoles’ life don't even hold a candle to the games that will come once they have become comfortable with the system. The PS3 has a lot of life yet... ask Insomniac.
Vidikron (FU) @ Feb 11th 2008 1:16PM
@Leobebes
No, it does get crappy ports. Games from devs like Insomniac, Incognito, and Naughty Dog prove the system is more than capable. But you can feel free to blame the crappy ports on the architecure if you want, that's a valid argument. The two ideas aren't mutually exclusive.
Leobebes @ Feb 11th 2008 1:25PM
I never said the PS3's architecture is inferior its just unnecessarily convoluted. It's like adding a pedal to a bicycle even though all you really need is 2. The manufacturer added the pedal just too be different and unique and supposedly represent itself as if it's "outside the box". In actuality though its unnecessary. Sure the PS3 has potential but so does the 360 and possible the Wii due to its unique peripheral.
So what Insomniac says the PS3 has this amazing untapped potential, but until Insomniac decides to develop for the 360 then I think their prognostications would carry a little more weight.
Remember Sony's schpeel about it's emotion engine last generation? The Xbox came out without marketing speak and trumped its ass.
The PS3 is a nice machine but the cell is completely unnecessary when it comes to recreational gaming. It's like putting a Ferrari engine on Ford Focus.

Too bad. I enjoyed the 360 demo back in the day. I would probably pick this up for the PS3.
xFenixKnightx @ Feb 11th 2008 3:11PM
You should, its a great game dont worry about all these people crapping on it.
Martez @ Feb 11th 2008 3:42PM

dhaspert13 @ Feb 11th 2008 12:59PM
Its funny not ONLY are full PS3 games buggy, they cant even put out a stable demo. Kudos Sony, kudos.
maverick_saturn_626 @ Feb 11th 2008 3:25PM
Sony made lost planet? Thats news to me :O
Ian Murray @ Feb 11th 2008 1:51PM
That post image is full of win and awesome.
xFenixKnightx @ Feb 11th 2008 3:01PM
This game is very very good, stop bashing already. I have it. Its almost an AAA game IMO, just some minor issues but it was very fun and had a good multiplyer. If part 2 ever OFFICIALLY gets announced Ill probably pick it up.
Leobebes is making some good points I might add.
