This Wednesday: Commanders, Discs of Tron assault XBLA

Turn-based strategy and relentless disc flinging will be coming to Xbox Live Arcade this week, with Commanders: Attack of the Genos and Discs of Tron scheduled to arrive on Wednesday. Sierra Online's Commanders pits you (a commander, we suspect) against an invading army of genetically modified miscreants who, at the very least, are polite enough to wage war in turns. Fifteen missions, fifteen specialized units and a "retro-futuristic" setting can be had for 800 MS Points ($10).

Commanders: Attack of the Genos

As the title succinctly implies, Discs of Tron is primarily concerned with opponents hurling Tron discs at each other, very often while standing on discs within Tron. The disc-less download, which sports enhanced graphics and "CD-quality sound," will require you to discard 400 of your MS Points ($5).

Commanders is actually kinda like Advanced Wars so it's a nice game overall but Discs of Ton has not aged well at all. I know I wouldn't spend any money on it.

Might just be the bad coffee talking, but the guy on the banner for COMMANDERS looks like a "happier" Cid Highwind... o_o;

To which I say.. yay for playing an AW clone for 20 dollars cheaper and in HD.

You realize this was a PC genre and even tabletop gaming genre long before Nintendo did it, right? No? Oh well, there goes my point.

Does anyone else remember the Discs of Tron arcade machine? That bitch was the only reason I went to the local movie theater as a kid.

yep, and it's the main reason i will buy this game. check that, the main reason i HAVE to buy this game.

So "retro-futuristic", does that mean contemporary?

I think it means more along the lines of "Hey guys, check it out! Maya has a Smooth function! Our boxes can now be more interesting!"

Also, they robot soldiers look like Hi-Goggs

Lightweight turn-based strategy? I'd buy that for 800 MS points.

the big booth discs of tron is #1 in many many odes to arcade cabinet lists - and deserves it.

Sinistar phat gets my nod for second and the two player firetruck game gets my third

Why oh why don't we have a 3d advance wars on the Wii???

Battalion Wars is fun and all, but why do we only get a strategic advance wars on the Xbox, instead of the Wii?

(where the pointer would work better than an analogue stick. where are the Wii RTS games???)
