Devil May Cry 4 tears up UK charts

Capcom's over-the-top action extravaganza, Devil May Cry 4, has debuted at the top of the UK's all-format software sales chart, rudely bumping previous one-er Burnout: Paradise down to fourth place. GamesIndustry.biz reports that 61 percent of the title's sales came from the Xbox 360 version, a fact which is sure to make loyalists and rabid petitioners weep uncontrollably. Of course, it didn't help that the PlayStation 3 version had to deal with price gouging and an installation stigma.

In other satanic sniveling news, Capcom has announced that the Devil May Cry 4 demo has been downloaded over a million times on Xbox Live, making it the first piece of code to do so in 2008. Since appearing on the network January 24th, it's reportedly been averaging over 25,000 downloads a day.

No but seriously so far the game is doing tremendously well on BOTH systems. (With the PS3 versions being slightly ahead due to japan, and the NA numbers not released yet).

Either way i think this is a good sign for capcom to start making stuff for the PS3 as well.

Its pretty much already a given that the 360 version in NA is going to account for about 85-90% of sales

I think nobody mentions them because they expected it...Who thought that Sony wasn't gonna sell a shit load of DMC 4 in Japan...lol.

When it does get mentioned (I recall reading it being mentioned either on this site or another,) you see ppl saying that is because it is Japan and they hate american products. *rolls eyes.*

But when there is news that the 360 version sold more in Europe, ppl praise. Talk about biasness.

Personally, as others mentioned, the uk version probably sold more because it is cheaper, which would make the 360 more desirable.

Its just proof that most PS2 owners have come over to MS land and didnt wait for a PS3 afterall. Ive been saying it all along. When it comes to gaming consoles...Xbox360 is the new PS2 of this-gen, love it or hate it.

If what Hyams says is accurate, it doesn't sound like many made the jump, given a game that costs less and has twice the available buyers can't do better than 61%.

Wow...all the Wii fanboys came out quickly on that one. I have the Wii, all 3 actually. I like all 3 but Im pretty sure 360 will come out on top once they hit that pricing sweet spot. Fanboy I definately am not. I just call it how I see it.

PC Version isn't out here in the UK, comes out on the 28th i believe.

So Its split 360 61% PS3 39% which is pretty good for ps3 considering it costs £10 more

Most people don't own both systems though, so the fact that the game is 10 more is silly. You're going to buy it for the system you own, end of story.

That it outsold for 360 makes sense, because despite what people like to say, 360 still dominates the EU market.

Sucks to be Sony. It looks like they've just lost MGS4's exclusivity.

In Britain. When it comes to the narrow 360 vs PS3 contest, mainland Europe is Sony territory, far and away

Personally I'd argue that the entire Europe is 360-ish,NA is equal and in Japan everybody has three PS3's each and 360's are burned but let's not start a flamewar :)

Well I'm a PS360 guy myself don't have a Wii yet...And I don't think your a fanboy at all...I actually agree with u but I feel your undermining the accomplishment...It's a major one....At the end of the day Sony's Japanese, and M$ is American...So no matter the circumstances a Japanese game on a Japanese console will probably do better...Which comes to light in Japan...The sales for the PS3 are crushing the 360's even though people have equal opportunity to buy either or. That's why I feel it's a bi deal...Capcom might look at this data and make some exclusive titles for the 360...I know they made Dead rising but I mean action titles like viewtiful Joe or great action RPG's like Okami

Also I think people seem to forget that the PS3 hasn't even been out 12 months yet here in the UK, though it isn't doing too badly. Plus 39% is quite a decent figure considering the install base of the 360. Saying that, Burnout Paradise had a more even split, (53% 360 v 47% PS3).

The day £10 on the price of a game becomes a big issue is the day i'll be selling the big issue. It only cost me £39 for the nice collector edition for the PS3. Get jobs, it's the way forward people.

Hmm.. When we get the US sales numbers of DMC4 the SDF will just disband..

Well if vgchartz is to be believed, at the end of the week of feb. 09, PS3 Version has sold more with extra days in Japan putting it in the lead on total sales, but not in the lead for most sold that week.

Lets just wait for the US sales. Then we will see mass suicide amongst the SDF.

DMC4 sales for the 360 in the US are going to crush the ones for the PS3. Does any one have a doubt? Besides, once the US numbers come in, those Japanese number are going to look microscopic and insignificant in comparison. PS3 fanboys really know how to pick out the information that is convenient for them.

Anyways....
When Ninja Gaiden 2 comes out, its going to crush this game into oblivion.

So your assertion is that more 360 owners are going to buy DMC4 than PS3 owners. I guess that makes sense as there are more 360 owners, but if so many are buying DMC4 that the Japanese sales are going to look insignificant, how is NG2 going to crush DMC4? DMC4 and NG2 appeal to the same market, only one of them is on two consoles.

For NG2 to out sell DMC4, 360 owners would have to avoid buying DMC4, or at least a significant portion of them would, but then the PS3 version would probably sell more world wide.

That, or PS3 DMC4 sales + 360 DMC4 sales will be greater than NG2 sales, negating the 'crushing' if only by virtue of having many of the same people buy both games on 360 and having all the sales on the PS3 push DMC4 into the lead.

Well I'll bet the PERCENTAGE of 360 owners copped DMC4 OVER the PERCENTAGE of PS3 owners.

Howbout that!? Now how will you spin that?
